Varric: "You can't even pretend to be interesting, can you?" Why do I get the feeling one of the writing staff really did feel this way towards Sebastian and snuck that in. It makes sense story wise why Varric wouldn't like him, he wants more spice to it for writing material.

Look I get a lot of people like to poke fun at Sebastian but... is it just me or does this intense hatred on Varric's part almost seem out of character? IDK but I always thought Varric was more for making jokes than picking a fight.

This is 1 year old comment, however, I can explain why he has that hatred towards him... However, it wasn't that deep or anything, it was just more like being ticked off by how Varric's morality with Sebastian are a polar opposite to each other. We have a silver-tongue, compulsive liar, story maker/writer/fairy taler (as in making believes) and merchant, with a little bit of mercenary along the way which is Varric. On the other hands we have, a prince of Starkhaven, knowing his sins and repent, practically graduated from the Chantry system and overall a 180 degree man that turned his life from bad to good which is Sebastian. This morality of Sebastian are what makes Varric ticked off because no one is clean, sure you turned yourself being a good person, however, we can all see when Sebastian parent's was killed he was consumed by anger for a little awhile and that's bad... This is the part that Varric wants him to realize that he should be honest and stop being pretentious... If you find what Hawke's doing interesting or anything related to your life being entangled with something OUTSIDE the CHANTRY, one should be more honest about it instead being preaching all over your beliefs which is not often people would find it not annoying because this is life we are talking about, not some goddamn system from place to another. That's why Varric always telling lies to spice it up so you can see a different perspective of what lies and truth, people will know and they will judge so they can see what's good and bad at the same time... That's what story maker like Varric does, however, Sebastian despite his morality is being GOOD, the overall lacking substantial for him to growing up to be RIGHT is lacking, GOOD isn't the equivalent of RIGHT and that's what makes Varric really mad at him and telling him he was a "Liar" in the end. However, that being said, he's being respectful towards him, he could have done worse than just telling him being a liar, he could have but choose not to... He's just disliked the lack of his growth to be a substantial of the RIGHT MATERIAL for his writing.

agreed I hate the way he tries to answer everything away with "the maker this" and it's the "makers will". Faith is good an all just stop jamming it down other peoples throats and listen to what they have to say. Respect peoples different beliefs even if you don't agree and get off your high horse. He's not a bad character just a bit annoying.
