If you follow along with Solas' numerous explanations, we actually learn that spirits often turn into demons due to people projecting their fears and hatred onto the spirits. So what can happen is if you think the spirt is a demon, they may very well become one. Self fulfilling prophecy

Both sides are wrong and right. Vivienne was born in the current times with very little knowledge about the fade and demons. So of course you would be cautious of things you don't not understand, specially considering mages are succeptible to the influence or corruption of spirits. They can literally take posession of your body and the process is irreversible. And most of all Vivienne is a survivor, you cannot survive simply based on your emotions and a moral compass. You have to have reasoning and logic. We should remember that this is a very dangerous world to live in. People who are overly compassionate and emotional with little to no sense of reality are always the first to die. While Solas was born in a time when the fade and the real world overlapped. A time when mortals and spirits coexisted. It was a highly advanced period of time where research into the fade and spirits were so advance. For example the Evanuris can be considered a result of such a research where elfs became so powerful they spiritualized. One of the major flaws of Solas is that he is so stuck in the past and his guilt for destroying the ancient elven race, he is unable to see the present. No more like he refuses to see the present. He refuses to acknowledge that as of now he is a relic of a ancient era that has been lost to time. The Evanuris are kinda depressing if you think about it. They are practically indestructible but their mental state can deteriorate over time. I wouldn't want to live my immortal life as a mental patient. And wouldn't want my future to be an existential crisis.

And Vivienne have a reason to fear, one time she was almost possessed by a deamon when she was younger
@morgan145able2 жыл бұрын
It's one thing to be cautious of spirits, even VERY cautious, and quite another to be openly, nastily hostile like Vivienne is. She doesn't have to trust Cole, but she doesn't have to be impolite either. I don't think she understands how much her hostility betrays her terror either, instead of making her seem strong. Also, I see a lot of people saying that Viv is only this way because she's a survivor, and I'm inclined to agree, but from my experience successful survival involves adaptation to new information which Vivienne is doing her level best to avoid by sticking to rigid ways of thought ("Iron Lady" indeed). As for Solas, he may know more about dealing with spirits in general, but his info is outdated. At the very least, he seems to be unwilling to accept that things changed drastically for everyone, spirits and mortals alike, after he created the Veil. People have had to scramble to make new rules, and some of those rules are based around fear rather than facts. It's not their fault though, because SOMEBODY chose to take a long nap after causing a cataclysm instead of helping people understand their new normal. And now SOMEBODY wants to cause another cataclysm because the first one didn't create the utopia he was hoping for in spite of him doing nothing to shape the chaos he created.
@italomorais9424 Жыл бұрын
She has reasons to be hostile against something that could possess her anytime, I love Cole, but spirits are dangerous, even the ones that reflect the good of human nature. We seen what happened with anders. You should also take in account what Cole himself reveals about her. She almost couldn't resist possession on her harrowing, which scarred her for life. And even then, she still cares about Cole, and sometimes forgets he's a spirit.
@SneakyBastard-oi4ebАй бұрын
Solas didn't "choose" to take a long nap, he had to. Destroying the world's connection with the Fade affected him as well, so he became much weaker and had to fall in a slumber. It's not like he could predict or tell exactly what would happen, and the current state of the world definitely wasn't what he wanted. So, with that in mind, how would you suggest him "helping" people understand the world with the Veil? Even if he could avoid falling into slumber, how and where would he start? He didn't know what would happen, how most people would have their connection with the Fade mostly removed, and how his help and information would be received. Suspicion? Anger? Desolation? Depression? Please, tell me how that would help. Solas woke up in a nightmare he created, with no real knowledge of how things work. He felt he made a mistake, and vows to correct it himself, because he knows no other convincing way. He's most likely wrong, but what if he's right?

@lukeamparo6586 Жыл бұрын
I know folks hate Vivienne for being obstinate in her views but to me she has a sense of innocence to her. Yeah she can play the political game well enough but her naivety with institutional structures like the Circles and the realm of the Fade shows she is quite innocent at heart. Especially with how she treats her comrades, yeah she can be blunt or bitchy but she has a soft side too. Not saying she’s a sant but she’s more than the bitch she seems.
@M.Datura7 ай бұрын
She's definitely more than a bitch, but I would not call it innocence that she clings to the Circle guidelines. She is afraid, deathly afraid I'd say, and unwilling to look closely at what's beyond her known boundaries in fear of falling herself, which seems a pretty valid interpretation of what a lot of Circle mages are essentially raised to think; that they are so dangerous, and so vulernable they shouldn't be left to their own devices, not even think up a system for themselves. Which I think is the essence of what Cole points out here. To be fair is also her strength when it comes to court intrigue, because being wary and overly cautious is neccesary. I would not call it soft. Her fondness for Duke Bastien is not without it's baggage, and I frankly don't see how she treats her friends "softly". She's too informed for it to be innocence, it's ignorance at that point. But she's not two dimentional, and if anyone argues that, then they're just as ignorant.
