I still stand by this guy being one of the best written gay characters in all of video game history. I’m not even gay, and I just played one game where my inquisitor was with Dorian just because the romance was actually well done and he’s such a good character. I think one of my favorite elements is that the game doesn’t forget that “oh yeah, this is fucking medieval times. Being gay probably isn’t very accepted everywhere.” Him being gay actually effects how he lives. He’s not just some regular character, but also gay. Being gay in a medieval society with all sorts of archaic traditions and ideologies wouldn’t be an easy thing to happen to someone, and they actually recognize that in this game.

While I do agree that it's nice to have some sort of realism about this thing, but I honestly disagree with how negatively you're talking about media that doesn't do things that way. There's enough homophobia in the real world, isn't it fair we get to have a non judgemental fantasy world from time to time? In a game as politically and war focused as this it obviously wouldn't work, but there is media where that works very well.

Dragon Age games have dealt with topics like slavery, religious extremism, class divides, child murder, rape, mass genocide, and tons of other pretty overtly political topics. I understand wanting to see a fantasy where someone’s sexuality doesn’t matter, but Dragon Age has been a pretty dark fantasy for a long time now. I think it’s a pretty good place to raise the discussion of homophobia.

@@bananamania1124 my assumption is that Tevinter is a lot like how actual medieval Europe approached homosexuality. Keep in mind, homosexuality under the Roman Empire was pretty much accepted, it was just seen a embarrassing to be the bottom in a relationship. In medieval times, things got a lot more hateful, but it’s not like homosexual people suddenly stopped existing. There are plenty of rumors and historical evidence of kings, lords, and ladies occasionally having homosexual side relationships while still married to their royal husband or wife. So while being gay wasn’t unheard of, being proven to be gay, would be a massive embarrassment to your family name.

Leliana even gets praise from Orlesian nobles for being the Queen of Ferelden's Mistress and it's considered an honor (if you chose to go that route in the first game and imported it into the 3rd). It only becomes a problem when nobles like Dorian refuse to marry and breed when their family demands it. He is allowed to continue his gay affairs on the side. But Dorian (rightfully) doesn't want to live like that.

Not only is your Inquisitor lovely and beautiful, he's also scary and intimidating as fuck when he tries. And he's an elf, who generally aren't all that physically frightful even when pissed off. I personally think his tattoo scheme in the Iron Bull video suited his face more, but that's just me. All in all, though, he's quite the catch...

Ugh, why is this romance so good! I don't think I've gotten to the other romances because I keep making a new character so I can romance Dorian again. Love it with any Inquisitor, but elven inquisitor is my favourite. Just love the irony: A Tevinter mage and a Dalish elf. Imagine a Dalish inquisitor walking through Minrathous after Trespasser to visit his boyfriend, not giving a shit about the people looking strange at him. (since Dorian mentions at some point that there aren't any Dalish clans in Tevinter.) I can actually cry about this, it's so cute. Love these boys so much.

Always loved the voice actor for Alexius. His sheer despair when talking to his son, "You'll /die/..!" was spot on.
