You know what we should be able to do as a Qunari Inquisitor? Hand him over to the Qun. With a note explicitly saying who he is, what he is, what he's done and to whom he's done it. He's a Magister who has clearly shown he is both evil and serving a creature hell-bent on bringing an apocalypse. He crippled the Grey Wardens, one of the few organizations the Qun holds some respect for. And Sten is the new Arishok. You think he's going to take this affront towards his kadan's kin lightly?^^ Oh yeah, hope you like your last days of yaping Erimond. AllForFire Remember that Inquisitor Adaar is not of the Qun and doesn't even know much about it from what I gathered when talking to IB with Adaar so it kinda makes sense that there's no option.

FluffyNinjaLlama Well, Adaar is a Vashoth. That means they've never lived under the Qun, as opposed to Tal-Vashoth who knew it and then left it. But that doesn't mean that they wouldn't at least have learned all they could about it, at least to be prepared if nothing else. Plus, between the collectiv knowledge of everyone in the Inquisition, surely someone would have been able to cobble together the idea? Well, in any event, here it is! I had never liked the Rite of Tranquillity, though I did have my mage Inquisitor make him Tranquil. Nothing else fazed him, every other punishment and he was sooo fucking smug. It pissed me off so bad, so I re-loaded an earlier save and chose the Tranquil option, took the smirk right off his face. For what he did to the Wardens, he deserved it, he deserved worse really. You take a dip in favor, but I won them back.

I recruited Alexius because he is a brilliant man even though he was broken by Felix's fate. I recruited Servis because he is sly, slippery and resourceful. Erimond however got tranquility and since he could no longer feel or express his will he will also serve the Inquisition. I liked that Qunari approach nothing wasted - everything gained.

I too took an Qunari approach to judgements - you was a dwarf but the fact I was desperate to ride a certain one may have made some difference that and I saw death as unnecessary and wasteful. Alexis was a good man once too and the harsher options alienate and upset Dorian - at least give Alexis a shot at redemption - I made him work for the mages - it seemed more karmic to have him do something for them after he almost sold them down the river.

I partially recruited Servis because of his resourcefulness and connections, but mostly because I was so utterly shocked at the pair of balls on that man. Dude was stealing from Corypheus. I had to have him in the Inquisition, even if it meant stationing half a dozen of Leliana’s agents to watch him like a hawk.

If anyone ever deserved it, it's Erimond. And to hear him break is extremely satisfying. I've never made Alexius Tranquil because he lost himself to grief. Erimond was only greedy. Every time I don't play a mage I regret not having that option (and usually hand him over to the Wardens).

Tranquility fits the crime. It is done on mages who can't resist demonic possession. Erimond could not resist summoning them, at least. It's just too bad that you can't then use the tranquil Erimond to gain more information about Corypheous and his plans.

Something tells me that even if interviewing him after Tranquility he wouldn’t know more beyond what we already knew at the time. Cory doesn't seem to be the sharing type after all.

@@ConnorLonergan Maybe, maybe not. Erastinies, Calpernia's mentor, can be made tranquil to save him from Cory's binding spell, or even kept imprisoned, and then questioned for information on Cory. If one of his victims can have knowledge on him, one of his top commanders would likely have it too. Plus, he already spilled some of Cory's secrets when we confronted him at the ritual tower in the Western Approach. Maybe that's all he had, but I guess we'll never know. One thing that I know we could have asked him about was the dragon. Cory gave Erimond the ability to summon it and command it to an extent. It would have been nice to know how he did it. He also may have had more information on the Venatori or known Tevinter conspirators.

@@BelieveIt1051 Yes and what Erastinis knew was stuff we the players already knew, it is bound to be the same with Erimond hence why we don't have any interogation scene or whatever. He summoned the dragon by tapping his staff on the ground which released red lyrium energy, it is what we literally see in the cut scene. As for telling about the Dragon that was established back when we first meet it, it is a Dragon mutated to mimic an Archdemon in looks and power.

@@ConnorLonergan Erastinies knew about the specific bindings and things Cory used to cage him. The Inquisition didn't know any of that. The reason we don't get an interrogation scene is because BioWare was cheap. Leliana confirms that Erastinies does provide valuable information if you keep him caged in the bindings. We don't know if that's all it took though. There may have been more to it than that. The advisors were calling it an archdemon up to the point Flemeth revealed otherwise. It's status as an archdemon was not confirmed, but neither was it ruled out.

It is not Bioware being cheap it is Bioware not wasting money to telll you "the Dragon is not an Archdemon and there are Venatori in Orlais." again. If there was we would be shown it. It is an action to call on a dragon, no need to play mystery with it. Yes they where calling it an Archdemon but because it looked like one and had no better term for it. It was confirmed by the giant ass fact that Thedas wasn't suffering a Blight.

The companion disapproval and repercussions from my mage allies are the only reasons I didn't make Erimond Tranquil. I hate the Right of Tranquility but if anybody deserved it, it's this asshole. I always make him tranquil, then I have Josephine do the operation “How could you” and she basically takes care of any backlash from that choice without making us look bad, the disapproval of my inner circle is a small price to pay in order for that monster to truly get the punishment he deserves.

For me the only suitable option was to either give Erimond to the wardens or make him tranquil, I chose the later because I didn't want to give him the victory of being able to join his master in the Fade by killing him or letting the wardens do so. Also looking at it from a role-playing point of view: locking him up is too risky as he'd still have his knowledge of magic and might attempt to escape at some point. However by making him tranquil, I rendered a narcissistic blood mage who sacrificed so many of his own kind for insane, selfish reasons completely harmless. The way I see it, terrible practice or not it was ultimately for the best; given that he wanted to use his powers to unmake the world without a thought for anyone else who suffered. Plus I'm not going to lie, it felt pretty good to strip him of his insufferable arrogance. I never thought I'd be in favour of passing that kind of judgement on anyone when I first heard of the procedure and what it entails, but he was that much of a smug piece of shit it felt like the only truely appropriate sentence for him in the end.

There isn't any moral dilemma, just a lot of hypocritical people. I see tranquil mages left and right. Circle of mages do not seem too concerned about using tranquility on their own, but when you punish fantasy Hitler with it, everybody loses their shit. Tranquility is the only punishment which would act as punishment to him. He is unrepentant which would had earned him life in prison. Worse, he is actively hostile and mocking of his court. Such people deserve to get harshest possible sentence for not only denying or not caring, but celebrating their own misdeeds and evils which they had caused.

You’re killing their souls. Imagine having access to magic, being able to bend the world to your will, and being able to perceive the world in ways that few could, and then not only having that stripped from you but not be able to feel or dream. Then there’s the fact that your emotionless husk will be allowed to continue walking around, serving as an example for other mages. And that’s not counting the effect on those that love you. The Tranquil that took over the bestiary research? If you listen to the gossip around Skyhold, you’ll learn that someone actually loved her, probably before she became Tranquil, and he was sending love letters to her. Letters that she couldn’t understand the reason for, that he said she would’ve understood before. That’s why just thinking about Tranquility makes my stomach roil. Besides, Tranquils aren’t necessarily harmless. Don’t forget the man who made and maintained Samson’s red lyrium armor was a Tranquil. They can still cause damage.

Why do more allies approve of yours but when i do it, a single character barely approves. i have every companion and do exactly as you chose and only get a single piece unless it's disapproval

Sounds like your approval rating is at max for those characters. Once a companions approval is maxed, you may only get an approval indication if you have lost approval. Same goes for disapproval.

Using tranquility as a punishment is the worst abuse of power the templars have made. The mages have every right to be extremely irate over each and every such incident. Tranquility is only ever warranted if the mage has shown him- or herself vulnerable to possession and even then it is not meant as a punishment but as a protective measure. The inquisitor - a mage of all people - not only condoning this abuse but practicing it him- or herself should be completely out of the question.

Erimond summoned demons, did it by using blood magic, and by killing people. Technically, he can't resist demons. Yes he can resist possession of himself, but the point of Tranquility is to stop demons from manifesting in the physical world. Who was to say he wouldn't try again if you imprison him? Also, killing him might allow his spirit to assist the Nightmare demon further. Tranquility is the wisest option. Lore-wise, making him tranquil would allow the Inquisition to get information from him, though this isn't an option in the game.

***** Actually, the Seekers came up with tranquility. I think Cass mentions this after her personal quest. They also knew it could be reversed from the beginning but kept it hidden. EDIT: But you are right that the templars did not come up with it. The Seekers are different from the templars.

+Man elephantpig I agree that tranquility is widely abused but this man has done unspeakable evil and his mage skills are a part of that. It's one of the few cases in which it can be justified.

My Inquisitor is a mage, and I got angry mages at my door because I made this asshole Tranquil. Don't regret it, not up for debate. Death wasn't a punishment - he was literally asking for it. Keeping him alive makes him a risk. Him going back to the Wardens could theoretically pose another threat. Tranquility wasn't a punishment I was expecting to be available, but the grin on my face when I saw it spoke for itself. It's the only punishment where he would actually suffer. Deserved.

Going against the grain here, but Tranquility isn't the answer for my Inquisitior. As much as Erimond deserves it, it should never be used, even on the most Evil of Mages. Imprisonment it is. Let him lose faith in Corypheus when the news reaches him in his cell.
