I first played Dragon Age 10 years ago: first Origins on my mother's computer, then 2, and finally Inquisition. At the time, I hated Solas. After all, he was a traitor, wasn't he? It's only as I've grown up that I've seen the nuances of his character. I went from hating him to adoring him, to understanding him. Solas is a fascinating character, and Patrick Weekes has done an admirable job in writing him. Now, 10 years later, I'm ready to save him from himself. Nuva Fen'harel veren em.

But he never betrayed anyone, not sure why people think like this. He came with a goal to try to restore the world for the Elvhen. It was only after seeing the hardship we went through, "as one people", he starting becoming conflicted - Because he ultimately realized that his struggle, is no different from our own. A part of him is comparable to Thanos. In other words, he has the will to do what most people would not, even if it damns his soul - an anti-hero. But he isn't beyond changing his mind. I know we human like to define valuable life according to "sentience" but it's a very biased, human perspective. If a Tiger was the dominant species, it may define valuable life by " strength and agility" and all else would be "an animal". So from Solas's perspective, having your people who were immortal, with some achieving powers close to godhood, why would he initially think "you" were valuable? But with time, we human have began appreciating all life forms, and doing our best not to inflict unnecessary suffering or wasting them. Similarly, we can convince him of the value of this new world, it's people and all the things we've fought for (e.g., the Blights). Its resolution would make for a beautiful, heart-wrenching story. However, I don't think it would be that simple. I believe everyone will be in serious danger (Including Solas), as the real threat is yet to be "un-veiled".

That's a very nice analysis from an outside perspective, not from the viewpoint of someone experiencing it in the moment. From a purely personal perspective, he betrayed the Inquisitor. He betrays you on a personal level, whether he comes with his own project or not. He is the cause of all the Inquisitor’s misfortunes. Regardless of how you play it, the Inquisitor finds themselves there against their will at first, in my case, torn from their clan that might dies. Solas is the cause of all the Inquisitor’s misfortunes, but he hides all of this, even when romanced. Whether it’s for the Inquisitor’s good or not, Solas is just a bundle of lies and secrets during his time with the Inquisition. And he leaves without a word, and it’s years later that we learn the truth. After ‘helping’ us save the world, he plans to destroy it. Damn man, okay. Solas is the cause of all the Inquisitor’s misfortunes: he took their arm, their chance at a normal life, and in some cases, their heart. It’s because of him that we’re in this mess. So yes, in essence, Solas is a traitor to the Inquisition. The nuances don’t really change this fact. But what’s great about Dragon Age is that everyone is free to interpret their relationship with a character. ☺️ As a person, I understand Solas. My character, on the other hand, sees him as a traitor despite everything. She doesn't hate Solas, but nothing will ease the bitterness in her heart. Me? I love Solas and can't wait to see him again!

@@Zodiark303 I experienced the story just as much as you did. There is no "outside" experience. The only problem is people have a very self-centered view of the world, and think it only revolves around them. And we need to re-examine what it means to "betray". Or perhaps you never paid attention to the reason he joined the inquisition. Do you think because Madame Vivienne joined the inquisition, that means she's your friend? If so, that would be very naive. Don't you understand meaning of "allies" in times of difficulty and "setting as differences"? Why do you think that romancing him would make you more special to him than if you were friends? Again, time and time again, people prove that "romance" is very selfish. Many people who romanced him were drawn to him because of his mysterious attitude, and never understood a single thing about him as a person. No need to try and get defensive with "everyone has an opinion" and I can't be wrong. He is one consistent character. Instead, honestly try to reflect, replay, listen, and detach from a selfish perspective. That's only when you can see nuance. It doesn't come by simply "growing up".

Okay man, I wasn't being defensive at any point. I truly believe the beauty of Dragon Age is that everyone can experience it however they want. However, if you start telling me that my experience is wrong because it doesn't align with yours, it's going to annoy me. I was just giving MY impression of a character, a part, a game. I don't want anyone telling me that my way of experiencing a game is wrong. As I said, I love Solas: whether it's for his writing or the way he has grown on me. If that bothers you, I don't really care. I was just sharing my point of view, and I don't need someone to tell me "that's not it." To each their own. Peace, friend.

@@leone41ll There's a distinct irony present in trying to lecture someone, throwing around phrases like "self-centered view of the world" and "selfish perspective" and telling them to reflect, while at the same time trying to put your own perspective on a pedestal, and pretend it's more valid and nuanced than someone else's just on the basis that you choose to see it from a specific angle.

Veilguard failed. I liked it, not all of it, but I liked it enough for me to like the game and stick to it. But I don't think this is the last we have heard of Dragon Age. It is set up for the Veilguard to come back. I think I won't say more, but they thought it was the end of Mass Effect with Andromeda, but they are making another Mass Effect. Let us hope Dragon Age 5 will be better

Well, as it seems people have already given up Bioware as a Game Developer... Much time has passed since the glory days of KOTOR an Mass Effect... Ah well, times change.. They will neither be the first nor last to fall from a utterly butchered project, sadly.

I dont know if there is an english version to this phrase but there is a german saying "hope dies last". I dont know i still somehow believe in bioware...

@@thewormsalad I know the saying. I have studied german ^^' But back to tze supject... It seems like the old Bioware is dead, even most of those who did DA:I, who did a nice Job imo, not amazing but very acceptable... However those will most likely not work on DA 4 witch seems to be in early development, semi confirmed by Mark Darrah... As germans say... Die Kacke ist am dampfen... So... Some Hope remains
