I actually tried figuring out earlier and this is what I could make out. I'm not gunna guess who says what (besides what's obvious) (unintelligible, maybe heard find out here) the dread wolf? I was not happy with the reveal trailer, but I liked the gameplay a lot. But it appears people think unless it caters to every little thing they want they must bash and dislike it to oblivion. I hope BioWare takes note and releases more trailers that aren’t so goofy.

i mean i liked both even for me Origins will always be THE dragon age. this gameplay here looked really cool, i LOVE the new designs, the graphics and details, sounds and voice acting are GREAT but i still miss the tone and vibe origins had. (just watch the origins trailer and you maybe understand what i mean) i think DAtV makes great improvements at the right locations but some few things they could really have taken notes from origins. but i would say 90% of what was shown here is the best of the hole series so far. just the 10% are something i personally as an DAO strategic PC-player struggle with a bit.

@@klavicus2276 I play so many gatcha games the combat here is perfectly normal. Reminds me of Witcher or God of war, or even Elden ring. I’m not a fan of turn based or high strategy.

i think the marketing strategy has been a bit odd, and that's partly why people have been reacting negatively. It's odd that we got an official reveal trailer (not exactly marketed as a companion trailer) that looked like that, and it's also odd that they revealed gameplay by not really showcasing what's possible at higher levels, but having a very basic, button smashing 'tutorial' area with almost more dialogue and story than actual gameplay.

I like what we are seeing so far but I'm not sure how to feel about the huge design change for the demons and especially the pride demon in particular. It looks like a rock wraith and not a pride demon.

What i dont understand is if both inquisition a d veilguard are in the frostbite engine, why cant we just import our save?

The last game was 10 years ago. It'd be a bit of a stretch to expect that the majority of people would have access to the same old console or the saves. Plus, the servers for Origins have already been shut down and although there's unlikely to be anything significant from Origins going into Veilguard, that sets the expectation that EA / BioWare wouldn't want to limit Veilguard to the Keep / EA servers if in however many years it just gets shut down anyways and people can't import/export anymore. It's easier for them to have the Keep system *in* the game itself so players don't have to worry about their past games not importing properly nor EA / BioWare having to put resources into keeping servers up. There's also word of the entire game being available offline so that'd lock people out of importing if it required the Keep servers or a previous cloud-saved game.

I'm willing to give it a chance. But it doesnt look like good writing and story based off what we saw. And very childish and disney cartoonish feel. It's not conveying nearly as much power and "oh shit" from Tresspasser and Descent vibes. I hope it is good...but prepared that it is just going to suck and I'm going to stick with Inquisition Solas wins headcannon if Veilguard is a child game that ruins the series

I haven't seen anyone suggest this: what if Varric is just severely injured and has to sit in the sidelines? Sorta the "guy in the chair", the new Leliana who is more useful through his connections or old man Batman who can't patrol the streets himself. I feel like with how confident BioWare is with spoiling all these death flags, it could actually just be Varric getting sidelined.

I can't say I'm blown away but I didn't overly hate anything either. Not sure why they changed Varric's hair color so drastically. Aside from the voice and the giant freakin' crossbow, I wouldn't have known it was him at a glance. It's still wait and see on what the writing focuses on and how the characters develop. I'm not jumping on a hate bandwagon but my hype train is still in the station at this point.

something i've noticed from the trailer that has me theorizing, there seems to be a jump cut between the ritual getting interrupted and rook/harding get knocked over and when we next see solas as rook seems to be standing back at the base of the stairs again when he was just on a wooden pathway before!! as solas turns to look back at the tear in the veil, you can see what looks like a person moving on the ground (very blurred, maybe varric?) and solas no longer seems to be holding his dagger i think? there was also someone yelling when rook/harding get pushed by the aftershock! my theory is that varric gets hurt by the dagger, most likely by accident, and after the things settle with the two gods, harding discovers that she has healing magic and uses it to heal varric! or at least attempt to! if this is true, it would be a perfect way to reveal harding's magic and also finally open up companion ability commands! edit: the more i listen to im not sure who's yelling, it could just be a delayed yell from Harding.

Taking away a companion slot is a change that I genuinely can’t get over. Why did they do that? It makes the game much more like Mass Effect than DA, plus it’s going to limit the interactions between party members :/ also don’t like the dotted lines in combat telling you where projectiles are going, makes the game look much more cartoony than it is.

In inquisition at level 1 all you could do is hack and slash and even that wasn't as fluid as here. You are level one ofc you don't have many abilities yet🤷‍♀️ plus here you can parry and dodge which is great

I am not a fan of hack and slash games. That style of combat I find quite boring. I think visually it looks stunning but I am disappointed. They have changed the formula drastically. I'll get the game and pray that the story is good and hope it grows on me. What we saw was early on so maybe it will get better as the game progresses

The combat appears very watered down; less companions, less abilities, generic hack n' slash tactics and a very basic tactical wheel. I'm disappointed that they've changed the DNA of Dragon Age and made it look like every action RPG of the last decade. I will still probably get it for the story but I definitely think it will be as devisive as Dragon Age 2 and only the faithful will stick with the franchise. To say I'm worried doesn't cover it.

Based on comments, this game is more divisive than Final Fantasy XVI. Which is saying something. I'm excited for this game, but I hope it wraps up the story. Based on initial reactions, I'm guessing this game is going to bomb hard. Maybe bad enough that EA will shutter Bioware.

@sofajockeyUK I think so, too. But a lot of the comments on many RPG channels have been largely negative. Which, I expected. I think many of them were primed to dislike it before it was even revealed.

Initial reactions don't seem to be taking into account that we were warned that what we saw of game play was going to be different than if say one of us was live streaming game play. To me it almost seemed like Rook was playing solo with no other party members and the fact that there were three other individuals with Rook rather than just two. So perhaps the gameplay isn't going to be how everyone is assuming it will. Additionally, Varric mentions Solas having an ego. That is probably why the writers took the direction with Varric thinking he could talk Solas down and why the scaffolding of all things ruined his plans as he probably thought nobody would dare try anything. It is like the insanely intelligent person that has absolutely zero common sense. I would have gone about it differently, but it is what it is. I am wondering if Solas ends up in the same situation as in Inquisition and have to help the hero clean up his mess even if he isn't a party member. It would make sense then that they changed the title from Dreadwolf. We were also warned that the clip was edited rather heavily. It just feels like all the insanely negative individuals seemed to forget that part. I won't like the game play, but that won't keep me from enjoying wrapping up the storyline. I am holding off making any kind of judgement on the game until closer to the release date. This game changed hands so many times that the first bit of gameplay we got might not represent the storyline as a whole. It isn't clear at this time how much of the game was kept and what wasn't each time the development team changed. They might have been stuck with the previous work that had already been done. We won't know until we actually play the game

@kynthiamiryam9105 I think the gameplay looks fine. It was rumored that this game would be more like a fantasy Mass Effect rather than a CRPG. So, really, it's just an evolution of Dragon Age II's mechanics and gameplay. I think there are a lot of fans of Dragon Age: Origins, but they aren't Dragon Age fans. Each game has always been different than what came before. I know people like to point out Baldur's Gate III and lament that Bioware should have taken lessons from it, but that's just not realistic. The gameplay and structure were decided and designed long before BG3 came out. To use those lessons, Bioware would have had to scrap most of the game and start over. My pessimism doesn't stem from the reveal of the trailer or the game, but by the amount of comments I've seen already writing the game off as a failure. Granted, half of them were already going to reject it if it didn't go back to the combat of the first game.

It's a shame that people give in to their outrage so quickly. And speaking of Final Fantasy, Veilguard looks to be essentially FF7 Remake and DA Inquisition just far flashier yet people are having meltdowns over this. A lot of the things people are complaining about in Veilguard were present to some degree in the past games so it just feels like a lot of the people upset over this are people who just weren't paying attention. Not to say they aren't "fans" and can't have a negative opinion but those negative opinions tend to be based on some false memory.

Mash x to attack. Hold left trigger to draw bow, aim and shoot. When the Spidey sense meter flashes yellow, block or dodge. It flash red, you dodge. This is Arkham combat with a DA flavour. Opening feels very DA:I, and you could swap out the name Solas, for Coryphaeus or however you spell his name and it would be no different. This isn't exciting me. I hope the story makes up for the combat. Edit 1: Oh the dreaded inquisition dialogue wheel of "Not-enough-detail" returns? or is it the DA:2 Dialogue wheel? the problem remains.
