Why would they be negative about a few hours of a potentially 60-100h game? They don't have enough time to give full judgement. These are just impressions, which are inherently incomplete for a game this size. So far, this is looking more impressive than Inquisition off just the gameplay. I don't know if I'll like it, tho.

Replay Dragon Age 2 and Inquisition. The colors are still absolutely flying around and popping so much. In Inquisition, the color green is the most dominant one and it’s annoyingly present throughout the game. All the spells and abilities have popping colors and flashing lights in previous games so I don’t get what you are talking about here.

@@kingofnara Not really, Inquistion had a full pause mode where the view switched to a top down camera and you could order your companions movement and take direct control of them. They had of course also this more simple pause system but had a more tactical option aswell.

Veilguard is channelling Mass Effect which I think is terrific. There are fans of the tactical camera but surveys over the years show that the majority either barely used TC or didn't use it at all. Removing it is a good choice.

22:00 Let me preface this by saying I love the witcher 3 This is just a straight up lie luke, while the witcher 3 does have some of that dialog, it's absolutely not made for non ui play. Some objectives (for one instance laying down some bait for a monster in a side quests I was doing) require the minimap or some sort of objective marker as you need to put the bait in specific spots (for some reason.) Games like elden ring and botw were designed for non ui play, not the witcher 3 Same with assassians creed, you can turn off the ui and add instruction but it wont fix the rigid quest design + bad map design

In my personal opinion review embargoes that lift close to or on release day is a sign of a lack of confidence in the product. The fact that BioWare is allowing people to talk about their experience with the game over a month before release is a good sign. However I will remain skeptical until I see a final review. If they want my money, before the game releases, they will have to lift that embargo, before the game releases. Preferably a week or two, like CD Project Red did with the Witcher 3. 🤞

Normally hair physics is not something I care about, I tend to make shorter hair characters and don't mind that the hair of the companions are just good enough. But this really made me take notice in a way I never do, like in the cutscene with the created female character I was almost convinced that was pre rendered and then I saw it in action in gameplay and its just as good. Normally long hair for your created character will end up with you getting to see it behave in some weird way. But if I find a hair style I like I might actually go for a long hair for once.

The combat isn't as good as Darksouls and the game is more colorful than Darksouls but that's never been why people like this series or the Mass Effect series. If he was covering non-wow games when ME2 was popular he would have called that game bad too. People have always played Bioware games for the story, lore, and writing, and have suffered mediocre combat. He goes off about a pole dropping when that has literally nothing to do with the reason that people play DA in the first place.

And that's just off the top of my head and not even getting into how they switched to veilguard as a title since they likely drastically moved away from solas as a world ending threat to something that gets dealt with in the intro/first few missions, the fact this game went through several lead devs before landing on the creature they did, the fact the game had multiple iterations that got scrapped one of which being live service

Yeah I was initially very skeptical but after seeing the Ign video and seeing them actually respecting the origins lore showing stuff like Antivan Crows lore and continuing the story of OG characters like Morigan has me much more excited. I think it will be worth a look for DA fans. For new players to the franchise I'm not sure though.

I've never played a Dragon Age game but i have played Mass Effect, and the combat just reminds me of a fantasy version of Mass Effect combat.... has it always been that way or is this a deviation from the previous games?

It was always a bit more tactical based in the early games like you can basically play the whole game from a tactical player choosing your moves while now it's a lot more action oriented like mass effect

Yep cautiously optimistic, yet EXTREMELY skeptical. From what I’ve seen from these previews combat looks very fast-paced and chaotic, which is not necessarily good or bad, it just depends on how well you can handle that as a player. The character creator may have been updated with many more options BUT those Qunari look downright AWFUL! I personally don’t understand why so many things change from dragon age game to dragon age game: you show a gamer with no experience a particular segment from origins and then show them a segment from this game and ask them their opinion and I bed they’d think it was different games or maybe the same franchise made by a completely different studio. I’m very much going to wait quite a bit after launch to hear from some independent content creators and see what they all say. I’m interested in what Luke and Wolfheart say on the 19th but I’m MORE interested in what people say when it launches.

I remember Dragon Age Origins. The bloodsplatters on armor and face of your character. Tactical fighting. Grim world. Good looking characters with good sense of humor and good written dialogs. This game should be entirely different franchise. I hope this studio will get what it deserves with decisions they taking.

I wanna be pumped but something feels off to me as well. It looks just too fancy or something. Abilities have always been king in DA but they really pushing the action it seems. Yea you can normal attack in them all but you only attacking while abilities are on cooldown. In this it's a lot of jumping around and dodging and combos like they didn't have enough faith in DA formula to trust the tactics aspect. They keep saying it's a return to DA2 but even that game abilities were king. She literally saying dodging and playing it safe when risky.. it almost reminds me of God of War playstyle

So far I can say, that one of the three things I absolutely hated in DA:Inquisition is back in all its ugly glory: the insane VFX effects during combat. Even a simple swordfight has giant explosions and strotoscopic effects everywhere. This looks stupid and makes the combat hard to follow - even more so in an action RPG.

They specifically pointed out every question that people have brought up as a potential issue the studio might want to answer but something in the tone and presentation was really gameplay trailer over game review to me.
