Same. Feels like a roast on its own. In Bg3, gold at the starting area hints at the nature of your abduction. You can read between the lines of character dialogue and learn things NPCs are trying to hide, or even learn information they don't know themselves! Bg3 would never tell you a dock is suspicious 3 times like a baby. There's a quest where you can tell you're being played, simply because the quest giver offers you a reward greater than you would expect for a simple task. And the more you play, the more you uncover, the better it gets! Developers shouldn't fear having players miss things, it's just more content for future playthroughs.

The thing with these “modern writers” is they haven’t experienced real life. 90% of their life and social interactions come from online, and it shows in how their characters speak to each other and interact. They don’t know how to make real friends, so neither do their dragon age characters. The writers also haven’t really suffered. They don’t have any life experience to draw from, other than arguing trolls on the internet. That’s why the “bad guys” are just cartoonishly evil, and the good people are annoyingly “morally” good, like a Saturday morning PSA. Also, I wish I could feed Joss Whedon to badgers after his “um actually” style of jokes have infected an entire generation of millennial writers.
@viscountrainbows285713 сағат бұрын
I would say part of the Whedon effect is people are found funny by their clique, so they think "Hey I can do that too!", but entirely missing why that type of dialogue can occasionally be decent because all their feedback comes from their peers and frienrgroup without workshopping if it is appropriate to sound like a California resident in a dark fantasy where "Omg dragons are so cool" is *not* how real people would react or view them in context. A lot of the UI elements and features of the game gave me MMO vibes when I was watching this. That would explain a lot. XD
@KeytarArgonianКүн бұрын
1:09 That’s what happens when you make a live service multiplayer game, and then see that your other game Anthem tanked along with 90% of other released live service multiplayers, so you panic and pivot to turning it into an action game wearing an RPG skinsuit but keep the assets you’ve already made. That’s why your companions feel more like AI bots that you can’t really control fully and say shoutouts because they are filling a player slot for if you couldn’t find another player to join. That’s why your puzzles take 15 seconds, because the multiplayer team is supposed to be sprinting through the corridor and arena levels as fast as possible, like Destiny. It’s why you have a main ‘hub’ (like Destiny) and you ‘press X to launch mission’ on replayable areas (like Destiny).

@@johndiddilyjoe6258 the main problem isn’t even executive intervention… it’s TIME. Writers don’t have enough time to fix these piles of shit. Bioshock for example had a lot of the studio heads breathing down the neck of the developers but regardless pushed out a fire game.

From my experience with creative projects crunch time is absolutely necessary for the creative process. Look at some of the best games ever made and they were made in a short amount of time while being rushed and that is good if you've ever experienced something like that and are passionate about what you are creating. "Not enough time" is an excuse talentless hacks who hate the thing they are working on use to deflect criticism. @@memedealermikey
@johndiddilyjoe6258Күн бұрын
@memedealermikey I disagree. Time does not = quality. A lot of writers need someone breathing down their necks to actually produce something. Great, great games have been made on time crunches as you point out. Personally I think limitations like time and money lead to the greatest innovations in all forms of art. Of course there's a balance though. Look at the dozens of dead or dying crowd funded indie games. Where the developers are given a crazy budget, no corporate bs and no real time restrictions, and still they can't deliver. Time is not the solution.

How were you expecting a gem after all of those horrible games

I actually disagree with the notion that Inquisition was trash: it had better gameplay than Dragon Age 2 (Nightmare difficulty in that game making some enemies randomly immune to certain damage types in addition to a billion reinforcements in every single fight made me believe that DA2 was designed by a team of actual lobotomites) and - a hot take incoming - arguably some of the most interesting companions in the series. Don't get me wrong, everyone likes Alister/Morrigan and the rest of your team from Origins, sure, and I do too, but whenever people bring them up as examples of "amazingly written characters" it's almost always them just being witty and cracking jokes to each other, rarely anything more deep than that. Meanwhile, I still distinctly remember the long mind chess game between Solas and Iron Bull that they would randomly play with each other during exploration - a game that was both completely real (you could follow their moves yourself if you wanted) and also directly tied into their mindsets and beliefs as characters (like the ideology of Qun for Bull or Solas actually being an ancient elven god with a bunch of personal baggage and guilt stemming from that) - or Vivienne discussing the pros and cons of Mage Circles and politics that go into that, or Cole suddenly sharing some pretty deep insight about the other people in the current party and them reacting to their inner thoughts and feeling being completely exposed - many things like that. Yes, the main story in Inquisition is pretty boring and Corypheus (aside from that one his famous line) sucks major ass in terms of being a good antagonist, but other than that - and maybe all of the time-related gameplay stuff that made you wait for literal hours before completion - it isn't really *that* bad, definitely not on the level of Andromeda or, god forbid, Veilguard. There is a lot to like here.

@@Robert-fr9wl I heard that witcher 3 was insanely unpolished at release. Apparently it's been a pattern in their company for a while. But they release patches for years until the game is well done. But having played Cyberpunk 3 months after release and 2 years after release, I can't say that the game was worth my time. The writing is extremely corny. Female V is literally just Male V in a skin suit with a voice changer. The dialogue of female V was made to sound like she was a badass outlaw. But she just comes off as the cheesiest and snarky girl boss ever. The voice acting is so fucking BAD. Every interaction sounds the exact same. It's either "YO WTF WE HAD A DEAL" or "I have a gun pointed to your head and now I'm going to kill you because I am very badass."
@SeventhheavenDK23 сағат бұрын
@@amberbaum4079. I don't think Inquisition is a trash game, but I think it is very mid, and I also think that a lot of the problems for Dragon Age, and overall for the RPG genre started there. Also, all the games nominated that year on GOTY were very mid. Any could have won, and there won't be much difference. That said, it has looked very weird to me how Inquisition won GOTY with only a few weeks of being released. I have thought for some time that there was actually somw kind of shady deal behind Inquisition's GOTY. Even the sales have a shady trick behind it. First, the GOTY deal was precisely to trick "normies" into buying the game (most of these people probably just got to the Hinterlands and never touched the game again). The game was released during the console generation shift (for instance PS3/PS4), and suddenly they stopped supporting the old generation console and forced you to buy the game once more if you wanted to get the last patches and DLCs (Trespasser and the Descent). So, don't get gaslighted by Inquisition's "sales" either.

One thing that annoys me above even the writing, combat, how the game treats you etc. Is how it went from a fairly grounded setting thats almost like Witcher. You have monsters and magic but people are people. They don't have super powers. Even the Warden in Origins wasn't tossing his shield like captain america. You fought in a way that is somewhat believable. I think that contrast to the things you fought added a layer of hopelessness and made the fantastical elements stand out even more.

What the hell is up with modern games' obsession with vitiligo these days?
@blackpajamas6600Күн бұрын
Representation. That word alone makes some gamers cringe, but I don't know that it's problematic unless it's included as an overt invitation to virtue signal. But in this very same comment thread, another player was surprised and grateful to see a game character with vitiligo in this particular game. That commenter's sentiment amounted to: it's cool to be seen as a normal part of life. TL;DR - I would worry about it. If the developers are virtue signaling, don't buy the game. If they're not, then they've created a game world in which players with vitiligo (or who are simply affected by it) see similar faces being treated like regular people. I've seen bullies pick on kids with this very condition. The prejudice is real. I say, if they're not demanding you recognize them, then you (thankfully) don't have to.
