Maeda and Sato are my favourites along with Eguchi. Love the way Maeda draws faces haha. I wish DBZ looked like the Cha La opening from ep 1 to the end. To me, it has style and appeal that lacks in the more overly designed versions in the Cell arc and beyond. The expressive faces those 3 were able to do are just lost in later iterations of the art style. Maeda's work in the Cha La opening is the best. Seriously. It is why Dead Zone is still my favorite as well in terms of style too and animation.

Strangly, people usually refer to art style from Sonic CD's animate cutscenes as "Toei style", which is weird, because those cutscenes WEREN'T animated by Toei.

The Cha-La OP and Death Zone are peak Maeda in terms of artstyle. It's a shame his supervision declined in the later arcs. I wonder if Junio would have stayed longer on the show as a consistent team if Maeda had handed the role of supervisor down to Sato or Nakatsuru after Namek.

I think those are peak dragon ball for all time. The characters are so expressive and the line art is awesome and varied. Piccolo also looks way cooler during the end of dragon ball and early z

2nd favorite studio imo. Maeda might have struggled to adapt to Z's artstyle midway through, but he was pretty light on corrections, so it didn't hurt the studio too much. However, this studio's regulars were CRAZY. Eguchi, Ide, Sato, Nakatsuru were all great throughout the studio's time on Dragon Ball. They did have some more good regulars, but those 4 stuck out to me the most. I wish Nakatsuru or Sato replaced Maeda as supervisor when he left the franchise.

Junio and Last House are the only studios that got worse throughout DBZ, which is ironic because they're art styles were the closest to Toriyama's when they were good and the decline started around the same time (the Freeza arc). Segashia (aside from Takeuchi), Shindō Prodictions (of course), and Studio Live (despite struggling initially to adapt to Z's art style)got better as they went along by comparison.

@@DBZAOTA482 True, I have no clue what inspired Uchiyama to become so glaringly harsh with corrections after the Cell Arc. I also have no idea why Ohara never stuck around as supervisor after those episodes in DB (pretty sure it was like 78, 81, and some other episode before 90). However, while I agree with you about how accurate Junio and LH were with adapting Toriyama's panels, I think only the supervisors got worse throughout Z.

@@InfraredGod Uchiyama started doing key animation more and more regularly after his animators either quit or got promoted like Natoshi Shida.

@@DBZAOTA482 Yeah, its especially more noticeable after Shida’s departure. He also became very heavy with corrections as time passed, making Ohara’s work much harder to ID. Last House had crumbled over time.
