The thing alot of ppl underestimates about this game is the global reach. Most of what we are seeing is from North America and a bit from Europe and Japan. But check Latin and South America, the sales out there are expected to insanely grossing at GOAT levels. This game will no doubt be the GOAT of DBZ games but it did exactly what DBZ fans want, bringing an instant classic that already have perfect gameplay and slightly expand upon without destroying its soul. The reason why Xenoverse, Kakarot and Fighterz has lukewarm reception compared to BT is because the gameplay elements fails to capture the soul and feel being in the Dragon Ball world from a fighting perspective. The only game that they could bring back to rival BT is OG Budokai. Even though its the combat is not as deep as BT but its just a great DBZ game in its own right.

2 things: 1 - This (nor any Budukai Tenkaichi) is NOT a competitive fighter lol. These games are basically the "Smash" game of the franchise. It's not intended to be balanced and such like a more serious fighter. These entries are purely for the lulz. 2 - Hype and marketing should be never factors considered when deciding if something is the greatest of all time. The quality of the product should be the end all be all for the most part. Other than that, I'm glad many people seem to be having a good time thus far.

@@jdrobin1 that doesn't make it a good dbz game. Marvel vs Capcom was taking over for years and still in tournament today, what does that have to do with the game though? It's one of the worst dbz games. It's a decent fighting game. No transformations, no flying, no beam clashes, no back and forth it's always one person in the driver seat until they mess up then vice versa. That is not Dragonball. That ain't even street fighter. Hell xenoverse was one of the most sold Bandai games ever. It was over 20 something million and that game was a mess.

You call Xenoverse 2 the cockroach of dragonball gaming as though that's a bad thing. X2 is the best DB game of the last decade. Great roster, great modes, wild amount of customization, co-op with friends, online AND local pvp (with no restriction to one map)- i honestly don't see what there is to complain about. I really hope this game tops X2, but that's a high bar, so I guess we'll see.

It's tough to compare fighterz with Tenkaichi. Both encapsulate different elements of the dragon Ball series masterfully. Hand to hand styled combos is more fighterz forte, where Tenkaichi deals more with movement and displays of energy. However one game is a bit more classic styled side scrolling gameplay... Like marvel versus Capcom. Which in a competitive level is fantastic. But I think Tenkaichi is a bit more of the full package when it comes to the dragon Ball Z power fantasy people are looking for. Flying, energy blast, fast hand to hand teleport fighting. City and land destruction. Can't wait for this one

I find this game kinda meh. The roster is also weird. They have base female Broly, all forms of Cabba, Spopowich, Babidi and Ribrianne's friends. But no: - General Rildo #Justice4Rildo - Super 17 - Nova Shenron - King Piccolo - Tao Pai Pai - False Super Saiyan Goku (ok, maybe not this one but still) - Pikkon - Base DBS Broly (I don't like him but you would expect him over Frieza Soldier) - Eis and Nova Shenron So far this game has not enough content that makes me hype enough to buy a console to get it. BT3 was a game at a time that had enough content for me to get. Standards are risen as new hardware comes out. Also they got the auras of SSJ4 and Baby correct, they gave Oozaru Baby the correct color Super Galick gun but then they give Frieza a white aura instead of blue or purple like in the anime. Seeing them get some things right and then make obvious mistakes, it feels disappointing. GT Super Saiyan Goku's moveset is still lame. Where is the running at your opponent Kamehameha? Where is Kamehameha times 10 for Syn Shenron? It's the small stuff but it adds up. SSJ3 GT Goku's moveset is far more impressive despite that form not having such iconic scenes.

I played Budokai Tenkaichi from the time it came out until recently doing zero online play. I just think it's a blast to set teams of different characters against each other. Especially now that there's a mode to specifically do this where you can tweak all the details of the fight

I wouldn’t call it the best game. I wouldn’t even call it the best DB game considering Budokai 2/Tenkaichi 2 (and Tenkaichi 4 even though its a BT3 mod) exists. I WILL say however this game is deliverance from the dark age of Dragon Ball games. We’ve been in a dark pit for many many many years with DB games the dark ages starting with Ultimate Tenkaichi and with every game afterwards being mediocre at best (Xenoverse 1/2) and a soulless cash grabs at worse (The Breakers) Sparking Zero is a breath of fresh air after having gotten nothing but slop since 2011

I'm always going to have a nostalgia bias for Budokai 1, 3 and Legacy of Goku 2. And even though SZ won't beat those for me on a personal level, I still think it will be the best game objectively when comparing them side by side.
