I understand the frustration, but honestly, BT3.5 is all I need this game to be. Also, it's a Tenkaichi game, my brother in Christ, the mechanics are bound to be somewhat similar, otherwise it might as well be a completely new arena righter.

I don’t mind the split characters since it allows a variety of moves to represent different eras from each of these characters. I was hoping it had more of the BT3 energy compared to other DBZ games. There’s already other fighting games that take a different approach to combat, a new game throwing back to the classic era is something I do appreciate. With 164 characters I don’t really care there’s lots of Gokus

There's no point when raging blast had that already. 1 version, u can choose which costume u want and u can choose whichever moves u wanted. If u didn't want to, just click default

As mentioned raging blast let them show a variety of moves while not bloating the character menu. Even let you mix and match stuff and have way more fun with costumes. Splitting Z and Super Goku probably would've been fine but this is frankly a bit much.

@@SomeGuyWhoHasAnUnoriginalName I had that opinion too originally, but then it's about more than super and ultimate attacks, it's actually about their combos, animations, dialogue etc Base Goku from the Saiyan Saga shouldn't fight and play like Base Goku from Tournament of Power, even the Buu Saga I don't think Piccolo from the Saiyan / Frieza saga should fight like Piccolo from Super. Android 17 also seemed way different in the Tournament of Power

(Goku ssj, blue, and base all having the same basic jabs and kicks with their specials being the main difference.) Split characters are such an archaic concept, why have 5 Goku's instead of character skins and customizable moveset!??? JUST have 1 Goku and let players choose whether he looks like lean radtiz arc goku or the beefy buu saga goku. Let players choose whether they want kaioken as a rush-attack or meteor combination.

They do seem to at least be putting in more effort towards making the variants unique and more closely represent their time period. Buu saga Vegeta for example was really bad in BT3 but based the screenshots we have, he is completely different now. Base form now has the move he used to kill Pui Pui and Super Saiyan appears to have Hellzone Grenade which he actually does use against Super Buu.

He has moves like Big Bang Attack and Final Flash but they are just copy and pasted from his earlier forms which used Vegeta's stock moves in a more intelligent manner. It makes sense that Super Saiyan would have Big Bang Attack as an ultimate just as it makes sense for Super Vegeta to have Final Flash as an ultimate. They also gave those forms unique rush attacks based on the fights those versions were in to make them recognizable. It's why I am so happy we are getting Double Galick Cannon and Hellzone Grenade because those are Buu Saga specific moves. I am not against stock moves entirely but they need to be used properly either where appropriate or to pad forms that had no screen time. Like it makes sense for Super Saiyan Goku (End) to have a generic energy volley since that character is meant to represent his fight with Cell but I wouldn't expect to see an energy volley anywhere else on Goku.

When he pronounced kaioken wrong I assumed it was because that's how it was in BT3. Looking at this trailer I really got the impression they were trying to show us all the stuff from BT3 is still present, like giants and transforming mid battle etc.

Even if the game is just a modern version of BT3, I'd be fine with it. For the last decade, all I've wanted was a BT type game with active online servers. So if that's what they are giving us here, AND adding a plethora of new characters, that's literally my dream. The only way this game could make me UNHAPPY is if the gameplay and story mode ends up being WORSE than BT3.

I remember some insiders saying that there were going to be OG and GT characters, and I do also remember Sonny Strait saying he was going to voice 3 distinct characters (his major DB roles being Krillin, Bardock and General Blue). Considering DBS Broly doesn't have a (Super) designation in the Japanese site like Goku (Super), Vegeta (Super), 17 (Super) or even Frieza (Super), I'm pretty sure the major hit will probably be DBZ movie characters. It wouldn't surprise me if Bamco relegated movie characters to DLC, seems like the grubby thing they would do to build up hype.

I have a lot of faith in them. I think it’ll be BT3 perfected, with all the best gameplay features from raging blast and tenkaichi and new ones on top of them I also have faith they’ll cut a lot of the bloat from bt3 like non canon ape forms and friezas soldiers and others. Split characters keeps it true to the series as you select the variant of the character from the specific era/saga that they are from. This gives more opportunities for movesets. If the starting roster was small - it would have been an issue. But with 164 at launch you will have a comparable amount of content to BT3 even if you refuse to buy any DLC. And we all know there will be DLC for years Having the split rather than customisation of moves, means that if you look at the opponent, you know what moves they have. Yeah, a lot of the roster space is "wasted" on Goku and Vegeta, but the source material is mostly to blame for that, Goku may be mid and boring. But you can't have the game without all the Goku's Also the game is very clear about the fact it is a sequel to Budokai Tenkaichi 3 specifically, heck this trailer even showcases how Goku and Vegeta have the old movesets

Something I noticed, it seems that they're using older voice clips as well as new ones. Some of Goku's lines feel ripped straight out of the old Tenkaichi games only uncompressed. Not saying that's a bad thing mind you, but it does leave some questions to be had, like why have the "kayo" voice clip instead of "kaio?"

1:48 in the first BT game, you couldn't even transform mid middle (except kaioken) so they just made each transformation a character slot as a selling point for the game. So in BT 2, you could transform mid battle again and it would be a bad marketing move to undo the transformation = character slot since the consumer would feel they were getting less characters than the first game. Thus the marketing ploy stayed up until BT4. Messy. 😅

I think the split character decision is the best decision. You get to play as a character's variant from a sepcific era in the dragonball timeline. It keeps it true to the series, as well as brings the opportunity to have a different moveset for the character.

If you compare the 2 combo sequences directly with the same ones in bt3, you’ll notice the speed of everything has been increased substantially in SZ. Follow ups flow more seamlessly into each other and seem MUCH harder to dodge on reaction. They’re actually making the game FASTER paced and that excites me.

Can we please acknowledge how every melee hit for Goku is impact lag. It's my most hated thing about jumpforce, also by spike. Half of dbzbt is charged hits (like gut punches, force push, knock backs, z vanish counters, dragon dash flank, etc) all freeze frames... so this is gonna be very clunky game but no one cares I guess.

Even if this is just a Budokai Tenkaichi 4 with some improvements and changes (similar in scope as BT2 -> BT3) I'm going to be perfectly happy with it. At this point, it was not anywhere on my list of things that might ever happen, to get another BT game, and BT2 nor BT3 were perfect (one had more content to play, other had better polish on visual presentation and slight additions to the formula but was missing the meaty content), so if this one is the true "Ultimate Tenkaichi" if you will, I'm going to be happy. Obviously, Raging Blast also had some good stuff going for it, so I would like to see them take some stuff from there too, but these trailers are kinda exceeding my expectations, since I was wondering if they themselves would be able to make the whole Budokai Tenkaichi vs Raging Blast distinction and if they were just going to make a Raging Blast 3, but this seems like they definitely understand the assignment (even though there is definitely some stuff about it that is more reminiscent of Raging Blast as well. Like the beams and effects are more slender and thin, and volleys seem to arc way more like in Raging Blast, and some of the animation stuff is sort of taking stylistically from Raging Blast too, which I'm not against). Now it's just about seeing how well they stick to landing. But I do like you being more negative or critical of it. It's interesting to hear about it.

There is updated graphics that BT3 doesn't have. There is active online servers, which BT3 doesn't have. Even if this game is EXACTLY the same as BT3 besides the things I have just mentioned, it would still be worth buying over BT3 for these things alone: Active online servers, new characters, never before adapted story mode arcs (DBS), DLC, and modern graphics.

I ain’t gon hold you I see what your issues are with variants and I get raging blast “fixed” that but let’s be real here that’s probably why raging blast sucked to a lot of people, One of the core things about the BT series was that it’s roster was unnecessarily big but came across as genius with random chars like frieza soldier and saibamen and you could beat a ssj4 goku with them tbh not only that but it’s pretty genius since it makes every char feel different each era or so and makes shit easier besides having to customize a whole ass Moveset and switch costumes, I mean look at Goku, Dude especially in Z pulled different shit and moves each arc and Vegeta too and I feel like they should definently add some crap from raging blast 2 cause it was lowkey ahead of its time with that galaxy mode and customization which also I still hope that we do still get customization on people like Super Goku or Z Goku like buu saga Goku has a end of Z Goku outfit and Super Goku has a capsule corp outfit or Vegeta has a black tank top for the buu saga

If you want the characters to feel like their arcs so badly in RB, it’s incredibly easy to do so. Pick the moves you want, you get 4 to choose from, pick a costume and then that’s it, maybe an item or four if you want. I don’t get it. Do you think complexity in a game is a bad thing?

I actually liked that this was closer to Sparking Meteor than to Raging Blast. I think using Sparking Meteor as a base and improving from them using certain things from Raging Blast is the way to go here. I do prefer the split characters. I'm probably in the minority but I was not a fan of the Raging Blast way of doing things. The split characters are also probably a good idea if they want to add DLC. Adding a new form to a current character is probably a worse idea desing wise than adding a character that has said form. That way they can center on the attacks used by that character at that time. So I expect a Piccolo exclusively from the 23 Tenkaichi Budokai as DLC and another one from the Super Hero movie. I would have prefered they added new characters over the original roster instead of releagint most of the old characters to DLC. But, as long as we get them eventually I'm cool with it.

They want the game to be a different game entirely not a sequel. They fail to realize the additions they added with the raging blast deflect beam mechanics. Whatever that clash vegeta and goku had that blew away wind. I agree that some beam attacks are small that i agree on but ither than that im satisfied with what i saw. Seen many people expecting this for some reason to be a merger between Tenkaichi and XenoVerse. Seen a guy ask for OC characters😂.

This game needs to take notes at any changes or improvements from games since Bt3. I completely agree, this trailer completely deflated my hype. Splitting the characters, and getting rid of the customization took this game from a day one purchase, to a "wait for a sale." The only thing that can save it from that, for me at least, is if they finally bring in characters from the Moro and Granolah arcs. But that seems like a pretty slim chance, given how blatantly padded the roster is. They're probably gonna save that for DLC. A shame, this could've been something special, instead it's really not all that different from that Tenkaichi 4 fan mod.

DBS Goku is as different from DBZ Goku as DBZ goku is different from OG Goku. They have different forms, moves, abilities, and stories.

My biggest problem with the game is that a lot of animations look unfinished and have no interpolation. But there is no release date yet and the attacks that come back from the last trailer have changed (for example Base Vegeta (Super) doing a galick gun as pointed out by IkevinX). So i have hope for the game to be more polished on release. My main fear was that they were gonna dumb down the gameplay for casuals. Even if i agree that they should add new stuff to it, it at least has BT3's mechanics and i will be happy to play it with my friends over the original BT3. But i agree, it looks like BT3 HD more than BT4.

Rather than making several different Goku’s. i hope they find a way to add something to customization that can slightly change his combat to reflect a certain era. Kinda like in RB1, there was a little add-on or whatever that shit was(can’t remember exactly) you could use to change goku’s spirit bomb from small, large or super. Do the same thing, but it changes the regular fighting combat slightly.

@@meliante- There was not a lot of clones in BT3. That is a huge misconception. It had a 161 character roster, and only about 10 of them had generic movesets and combos.This included characters like Tambourine, Pilaf Machine, Pure Evil Majin Buu, etc. But there was far from "a lot" of clones.

I don’t want to see every character from Dragon Ball Super in this game, especially the ones during the Tournament of Power arc. Just the most important ones. Sadly, Ribrianne will be one of them. I’m a little mixed with Bergamo being in the game, but it’s not exactly the equivalent of someone like Frieza Soldier and Appule being in BT3.

It seems to be sacrificing the games content and mechanics for visuals. I mean if you shave enough to make a game pretty than the quality of content will eventually be trash. I mean right now the characters are slower in combat and movement speed in rushes and dashes. And even if the character roster size is true, which there isn't a confirmation because shapes aren't words, it's only 3 more characters than bt3, and with what we see now, we're losing alot of people from the last installment, which would make this is a failed sequel.
