Tbh I actually don't think it's that bad, now I'm hearing it in higher quality. It's nowhere near the quality of the Japanese though.

I think it’s less that the singer wasn’t trying and more that his voice just isn’t suited for this kind of song. I’ve heard his other work back when a lot of fans were harassing the guy and spamming death threats at him; he’s a genuinely good singer. Just not the best pick for this song and maybe not given the best direction. The Brazilian Portuguese version of this song is just as good as the Japanese version to me, and a lot of it is because his voice is similar to the original’s.
