This is my DBZ abridged episode 30 reaction with all parts:) DBZ was my first anime and holds and special place in my heart:) I already really love this abridged series and am so excited to go on my DBZ abridged reaction journey.

Might look better on that frame-smoothing thingie on new fangled televisions, otherwise some parts of it look like it's missing frames, and not in the "moving real fast" kinda way. Otherwise I really enjoyed it, needed some Dragon Ball badly. Indeed reminded me of the older Dragon Ball movies, not the Z era movies as much. A fun little movie.

Fun fact. Right at first Chris Sabat thought they were just chopping his lines up because Lanipator's Vegeta was so good. Then he heard him swear and knew it was someone else. He now works with TFS on other projects.

@@Ed_Crane That isn't really true about Sean. As a producer for the English dubs, he really couldn't approve of DBZA like Chris could. After DBZA finished it's third season though, he's been open about liking it. Sean even said while DBZA was ongoing that saying anything positive about it could negatively impact his relationship with FUNamation and Toei.

@@Kmmlc you're right, I was always annoyed with Sean's reactions, but once I found out that Toei threatened to take the dubbing rights entirely away from Funimation if they used the (really brilliant) clip in DBZ Kai of TFS voicing the story of Mr.satans victory over Cell, I realised his hands were way more tied by red tape than most others, but even still, Chris (and Kyle as Santa) are never credited by their real names, nor does TFS call them their real names, even as recently as their new commentary videos. Toei is the real villain.

I love how in the DBZ Dub when Frieza sees Vegeta Alive, he says "No, you're a ghost" and than Vegeta says "Can a Ghost do this" as he charges up a blast and gets teleported before he aims it.

Idk how accurate that is. I haven't read the manga but in Kai Frieza says something along the lines of "but I killed you" and Vegeta says "too bad, it didn't take" as he's teleported. Not super sure how intent Vegeta actually was on blasting Frieza

My favourite thing about this episode that someone brought up was that Krillin was likely yelling for months in front of King Yema since he's still screaming when he comes back xD

This could imply that getting blown up in the Abridged timeline was painless, as him screaming would mean he was expecting to die, yet he didn't realize it when it happened. And he was too scared to stop and didn't realize how much time was passing. Also, this means Krillin has insane breathing control. The rate of his screams means he had to take in enough breath to maintain his terrified screaming.

The wish on Shenron was to bring back all those died by Freiza and his henchman. Technically in the OG series, Guru died due to heartbreak of what Frieza did to his planet and people. The wish on Parunga was to bring all those on Namek to earth with exception of Goke and Frieza.

Little fun fact: Goku’s “heroic speech” towards Freeza is a reference and satire of Darkwing Duck who always makes these nonsensical entrances. “I am the terror that flaps in the night” is his catchphrase.

If I remember correctly, during the whole "AH! Gojirra!" scene where everyone's panicking, in the actual show they had the cop explain that Capsule Corp. was testing out special effects for movies or something and that's why everyone calmed down. And since every civilian in DBZ has the IQ of a lemming, they all bought it. xD

I think Guru died in part because of the stress of not only his entire race being killed, but because he was able to sense it happening the whole time. Therefore, Freeza caused his death. Though, this is a guess based on how he was able to sense the Ginyu Force before they even reached the planet.

the most amazing thing about dbza is how they managed to outdo themselves, when they did nappa, everyone thought they would just somehow put him in all the time, because he was the best part of "season 1". but not only didnt they do it, they managed to make something even better with guru. and those 2 were such a minor thing in the original series, but in dbza they steal the show, becoming some people's favorites.

Guru died because of heart failure, yes, however that was caused by the destruction and murder that Freeza and his men had done (at least, that was the explanation the original show gave). That's why he came back for a little while.

1 The Tagrok tribe didn't come back because Vegeta wasn't working for Frieza when he killed them, so they weren't killed by "Frieza and his men" 2 Guru was close to death, but in the original story the stress and grief from Frieza's genocide caused him to die sooner than he otherwise would have, so _technically_ he was killed by "Frieza or his men"- indirectly at least. In Abridged he committed suicide though, so no it wouldn't count 3 Goku knew where the ship was because he had just spent a bunch of time healing in a pod in Frieza's ship 4 It's true that the reason they couldn't wish Goku back to Earth was because he didn't want to return. In the actual series, it's because the Super Saiyan transformation allows "evil to creep into his heart" and so he stays away to learn how to control the form safely. As for why Prorunga couldn't just bring him back anyway- Porunga as well as the other dragons cannot affect people who are stronger than their creators without said person's consent. That's also why the whole "wish the saiyans into the sun or an asteroid field" wouldn't have worked either 5 Goku has eaten his opponents before

In the context of DBZA, it does make no sense that Guru would have been brought back, unless his heart just happened to restart at that moment, which I guess is what they'd claim. In the original, they said Guru died prematurely out of sadness from Freeza attacking Namek, which is why he was revived for about a half hour or so.

Ok so new here.. About Guru. So the original plan was to bring back everyone killed by Frieza and his men back to life in the hopes that Guru would be wished back too. Guru did die of natural causes but it was the pain he felt when Frieza slaughtered the Nameks. That pain caused him to die. So with the Namekians back, Guru should be back too and since there was still 1 more wish pending with Porunga, that wish was used to shift everyone except Frieza to Earth and let the planet blow up in his face. But Goku changed that wish to both him and Frieza staying back. He wanted to finish off this fight. Avenge his best friend Krillin. Also point to be noted, at this point, Goku thinks there is no way of wishing Krillin back to life. He thinks Krillin is gone for good. That is what's driving his rage.

Episode 30 has a semi-secret fourth part (Ep.30 Epilogue) which earned TFS an immediate DMCA claim. They couldn't really edit it without ruining the joke, so it wasn't re-uploaded to KZbin. Basically, it's Anikin's conversion into Vader from the end of *Star Wars - Episode 3,* , except Vader is Frieza and Palpatine is King Cold. They straight-up used the John Willaims music too.

The dolls in the ending are a last little bit of black humour. When asking children who have been abused, they are often asked to "point out on the doll where he/she touched you". The little bit of text before the dolls says the series has "touched all of our hearts, along with other places you may point out on these dolls".

In the first Dragon Ball Goku already used a wish on Krillin. The dragon on earth can only bring back one person only once. Dende wish was to teleport everyone but Freezer and Goku off planet.

Wow, you really are just like me xD I was planning to go to sleep and watch this tomorrow, but because it was on that cliffhanger, I was gonna personally rewatch the end of the last video to get back in the groove so it can, as you say, "mesh better". I'm weird like that. I can't pause a movie for a loooong time and just start wher4e it was left off. If enough time goes by, I have to re-watch the movie from the start. I also don't like to not watch certain strings of epidotes together if they'r4e all part of some event, because I like it all to have good flow. I think I'm OCD, but that's just how I work. Guru was able to come back cause he died from a broken heart due to the death and destruction caused by freeza and the used that as a way of freeza killing him.

To clear up the question of the wish. Popo's wish was to bring back everyone killed by Frieza and his men. Earth's dragon (at the time) is unable to revive a person more than once, so Krillin was not revived. The reason (Super Kami) Guru ended up getting revived was because, while guru was close to dying anyway, the emotional stress of losing all his people killed him faster. For that reason, he was indirectly killed by Frieza and was revived by the wish. Because Vegeta was not part of the Frieza force since landing on Namek, anyone he killed was also not revived. Dende then wished everyone off the planet except Goku and Frieza. In my opinion, King Kai's plan on how to use the wishes was one of the best story line moments in the whole show.

29:20 Fun little note: Bulma quoting Tony Stark from the first Avengers movie here is a fantastic way to date the release of the episode, as this Episode 30 released a few weeks after the first Avengers movie hit theaters back in 2012.

So Guru did have a short time on earth before he died officially Abridged Guru stopped his own heart for a few minutes because he's a massive troll and Namekian physiology is really weird like that

I'm a bit late to this but as to those being confused about Krillin not coming back after the wish, it's because Krillin, Chiaotzu and Master Roshi have been revived with earth's dragon balls after dying to Piccolo Daimao (aka Demon King Piccolo aka the good Piccolo we see nowdays' father) and you cannot wish back someone who's already been wished back with the earth dragon balls, but you can with the Namekian Dragon Balls

Ok finished it. Yeah Guru did die by Frieza because "his heart felt heavy from the turmoil befalling his people". But in the abridged obv the joke was he stopped his own heart for a bit to be a dick lol. Really don't know why Nappa wasn't brought back in the original, because the explanation makes sense. I'm also trying to remember if, aside from Buu, Goku actually killed anyone in DBZ, or if he was purposely kept from doing so O_o

Wow that actually means that guru must have secretly been working with Frieza even in cannon. given that it was functionally natural causes as he died from his choice to react to Frieza killing his planet that means he would be the murderer or no one would as it was not a direct intentional attack. He wasn't really killed by Frieza's men if he wasn't one. Ya mitigating circumstances but given that Vegeta's kills weren't resurrected that means mitigating circumstances are not important to the wording. Vegeta after all was partially there in some sense because of Frieza choosing other villages. That means Guru had to have literally been working for Frieza actively in some capacity as in a full blown henchman. Meaning either he was some low level goon or he told Frieza about the dragon balls and invited him to the planet. Meaning that evil guru has to be cannon... or cannon is broken.
