I am absolutely guttered about the news of Toriyama's passing. I've never cried for the death of someone famous, as I don't feel that anyone has ever meant that much to me outside of my friends and family. But when I found out about this, I was traveling and didn't believe it at first. I sat on the plane with the Dragon Ball music playing in my ears and I was completely overwhelmed with emotion. I couldn't believe my own feelings, but as the days have gone by it has made more and more sense. Dragon Ball- its story and its characters; they have been living inside me since I was a child. I didn't know the man himself, but his work helped me grow into who I am today. Knowing he's gone, I feel my eyes well up and my heart break. I don't know what else to say for now. I already made this remake as part of my next batch of covers, and wanted to share it with all of you in celebration of Akira Toriyama and the tale that he told. I wish to make something special to commemorate him, but I want to take my time with it. I hope we all see him in other world one day so we can thank him for everything.

It hurts even more because Toriyama clearly loved his work like it was another child to him. Granted he forgot a lot of things, but the way he spoke about his work, his involvement in animated projects, and the fact he started it with the inspiration from his wife’s love of Chinese mythology. He was THE pioneer of anime and made it such an acceptable medium in television, paving the way for other artists and manga writers to make other amazing works of art. All I can say is he will be missed. You go to heaven Toriyama and teach them dinosaurs how to ride a ball.

He actually said he didn’t like dragon ball approaching the end of Z. He would have ended the series after frieza, because like as a manga artist is brutal as he need to create weekly content, but sooooo many people and companies depend on dragon ball content that he had to keep extending the manga, finally stopping at Buu. PS: dragon ball Z is half the revenue of the company making the anime, ending dragon ball would be terrible for business
@warllockmasterasd91428 ай бұрын
@@zurielsss Well he tried to stop it after freeza, then Cell. and then finally at Buu. while he actually had plans to end it after the battle with Piccolo when Goku got married. looking at how it was written at some point. However, if Toriyama sensei actually did end DB at Piccolo's defeat, or Frieza's defeat, or Cell's, then we would never have had iconic scenes and characters such as Super Saiyan, SS2 Gohan, the Fusion Dance or Vegito. Sometimes serendipity has its way of doing things. If DB never had those iconic moments and characters, because the publisher egged Toriyama sensei to continue, then Dragonball would never have reach its current legendary status. One could say that not only do we have Toriyama sensei to thank for our childhood, but his supervisors and his publishers too, for getting Toriyama sensei go that extra mile, even when he didn't want to. If we remember his life before his debut, Toriyama sensei originally did manga just for money, but because of the way other people around him pushed him, or encouraged him to go further, the world got a great childhood and memories, even when everything else in life sucked.

No matter what side of the world you were on, what sort of interpretation you had, or what entry point into the franchise that you came from, we can all agree that the legacy of the man who made it all was massive, unique, and far-reaching, even beyond his main field. Here's hoping we can all look past our disparate points of view to respect that. As even the world is looking past their own usual barriers at this time. The outpouring we've seen so far across the internet and other media around the world is more than proof enough of this. This was truly a magnificent remake, and I have a lot to say about what went into it, but for now, it's time to remember what Toriyama's work meant to each of us who experienced and were enthralled by it at some point in our lives.

@@GladiusThemes I believe people die twice, once when they leave the physical realm and once again when you say their name for the last time. So long as we keep these stories and legends like Akira Toriyama alive in the hearts and minds of us all, immortality is achieved! (too bad Frieza, you'll never obtain it!). It makes me smile to think of the millions of people that will be born and become fans just like we are. As for the future of Dragon Ball, Toriyama-sensei trusted Toyotaro to carry on his legacy, so I will too! I have no doubt that after Daima concludes we'll be getting the return of Super under a new name, the future looks bright for Dragon Ball! Lets raise our hands for Toriyama-kun one more time and keep them up to give Toyotaro our full support now creating and designing the stories we love. If you've seen Toyo's Dragon Ball AF comics I think we'll be seeing some really awesome content under his direction, from what I've heard Akira Toriyama was sick for over a years time so he likely wrote out the future for the series and quite possibly even a definitive end. It's customary for authors to do that anyway even though he already did end the story in the 90s, we all knew that one day it would return and boy did it ever! I'll always have a deep sadness when I think that my favorite Mangaka is no longer with us but at this point I've come full circle to being nothing but appreciative, appreciative that he gave so much to me and so many people and probably saved hundreds of thousands of peoples lives through his stories and animations. Here's to the future and a never ending stream of Dragon Ball content for us to watch and read.
