This is how the Buu saga should have ended IMO: Goku and Vegeta save everyone from inside of Buu. We then get kid Buu like we see already. Then kid Buu launches his attack to destroy earth and Goku saves Dende and Hercule. Vegeta then seeing that Goku can't save their sons and Piccolo along with Dende and Hercule turns ssj2 and uses his Final Flash to temporarily stall the attack just long enough for Goku to save all of them. They then teleport to Supreme Kai's world. Their sons are still weak from being inside Buu. Supreme Kai is going to take them with him since they can't fight at the moment but Goku says to leave them because if they regain their strength they may be the ones to take out Buu. Kai leaves them. Buu arrives and the normal battle insues. Goku is about to charge his Genki Dama, when Vegeta steps in to stall for time. But Buu isn't having any of it. He's tired of Vegeta constantly coming back for more. He chokes Vegeta and is going to pierce his heart with his hand. Trunks sees this and as soon as Buu puts his hand up goes SSJ and jumps in front of the attack. Trunks is breathing his last few struggling breathes right in front of Vegeta after saving his life. At this point Vegeta's power will rise from anger. Trunks then dies in Vegeta's arms. Vegeta is on his knees holding Trunks, crying, speachless. Then Vegeta lets out a lamenting soul tearing yell. The entire after life would begin to shake. His hair begins to grow long. He then finally turns into a ssj3. He gets up and places Trunks by everyone else while dodging all of Buus attacks with effortless ease. Vegeta then says "Buu first you killed my wife, then you took my home, and now... you have taken my son from me. I will never forgive you for THIS!!" Pushes off the ground with his foot, flying towards Buu. The force of his launch destroys ground behind him. He then appears behind Buu, his face cold, and yet full of anger, hatred, and disgust. He pummels Buu. Finally he grabs Buu by the ankle and hurles him towards the planet with such force that Buu goes through the planet but Vegeta is already waiting on the other side. He charges a full powered Galick Gun. Vegeta then says "Now go to hell you BASTARD!" Fires his Galick Gun. Obliterates Buu.

This makes me picture an alternate ending for Vegeta's final sacrifice against Buu. While charging his ki to a fatal level in order to blow up Buu in the devastating explosion we all remember, Vegeta realizes that his body isn't buckling under the pressure at all. Instead, he feels a reserve of power from deep down that even he never knew was there. Perhaps it came from the all out battle with Kakarot prior to this... maybe it had something to do with Babidi unlocking his potential.. or even a combination of the two events? He cannot be certain. All Vegeta knows is that charging his ki to this level, a level he expected would kill him, is only making him stronger. He feels an unprecedented level of strength coursing through him as his body begins to transform. First his muscles grow larger, then his hair starts to lengthen. Soon his eyebrows disappear, and an overwhelming sense of confidence and pride surges through the Prince of all Saiyans as lightning crackles through his aura. Vegeta lets out a mighty scream as he realizes that he has finally achieved a level of power he had never thought possible, a level that even Kakarot had not beat him to (at least not to his knowledge yet). Vegeta has ascended past an ascended Saiyan, and suddenly the fearsome unstoppable monster known as Buu doesn't seem so overwhelming to him anymore. For the first time, Vegeta fights not for himself, for revenge, or for his Saiyan pride. He fights for the survival of his family, his friends, and for the people of Earth... the place he now calls home.

I could accept Goku achieving a more perfected version of SSJ3 since he was able to train in Otherworld.. similar to how he used the Hyperbolic Time Chamber to achieve a more perfected version of SSJ1, but Vegeta deserved to hit SSJ3 first, even if only briefly. It would have been a short but epic moment. Toriyama could have written it in such a way that Vegeta still ended up doing his Final Atonement explosion, but using the SSJ3 form. Like, Vegeta could have figured out that he only had a short amount of time in this new state before it ultimately killed him, sort of like how the sheer power of it dramatically shortened Goku's time on Earth.. so Vegeta would've decided to do the only thing he knew might kill Buu, and that's charge himself up beyond his physical limit for one final explosion.

Well Super Saiyan 3 isn't very wieldly in the sense of power. As we learn in the Buu saga SSJ3 is a very unstable form, and Goku only uses it in desperation. I find it more logical for Vegeta to train his previous forms to be stronger, and not rely on such an unstable form. It fits his character more, because, obviously, he is smarter then Goku.

Al saiyan forms are unstable until trained. Goku stated that his regular ssj was hard to control for awhile. Goku learned to stabilize it by BoG. In the buu saga he had said he never needed the form because no one could keep up with it in Other World. So he never trained it. It's the same thing Frieza did in RoF. Untrained forms have unstable power. So Vegeta could learn ssj3 and stabilize it.

I picture SSj3 as more of an emotional transformation. Because of how, when goku was transforming infront of Bobbidi and Buu, perhaps for only the second time, you could see in his eyes how we was coming to terms with his sayain origins through the great ape form and whatnot. I imagine Vegeta making this transformation emotionally as well. Distant, on a far away planet, like he was when he became a super sayain originally, and lose all hope. Laying on the ground wanting to be stronger, he comes to terms with the fact that his father is dead, along with the entirety of their race He then wipe away the tears we've only seen him shed twice now, and he pronounces himself KING of all sayains. And transforms.

I believe Vegeta would have an easier time holding the form compared to Goku. One of Vegeta's greatest strengths is long-term ki stamina and focus, and with this form being such a drainer, in theory he should be able to hold it better than the others.

The thing is he never needed it, he spent so much time focusing on SSJ2 his version is the equivalent to 3 now without the massive stamina and ki drain. And toriyama also said vegeta is always stronger then goku when he attains the same form bur goku always surpasses vegeta so it dosent matter. Because toriyama hated vegeta 😅
