I always enjoy messing around with fun applications like dragon and today I thought I show you how you can basically eliminate any need for a GUI file manager all with just the help of one simple program that adds a drag and drop window that can be opened from any terminal on your Linux system.

I would still use gui file manager. When it comes to transferring files form usb, a gui file manager is useful for that. I use both gui and terminal file managers.

would there be a way to warp a file to your cursor instead? • do `warp $file` • file teleports to your cursor, wherever that is, and then it stays in the "drag" state • ...because a release event won't come until you click where you want to drop the file. warp and drop! this behavior is more in line with what tui file managers do

@@BrodieRobertson You can use xclip -selection clipboard -t image/png -i path/to/image.png, but you need to explicitly tell it the filetype (meaning you'd have to replace type/png with type/jpg for a jpeg, etc) so you'd also need to pull that from the file extension. You can then paste the image into whatever directly from your clipboard. I have a key bound to this in sxiv since it's most useful with pictures and I'd like to see what I'm copying.

When you're using a terminal filemanager on a day-to-day basis, you're used to the shortcuts so it might be faster for some people (me included) to not bother with a gui filemanager

Bruh how do you handle image files without human readable names, e.g. 77012728_p0.jpg, without thumbnails, so you can't even see what you are sending overthe internet. Your very introduction to the video based on assumption that need in thumbnail previews, or gui manipulations are rare. Yet to verify that your gibberish-named files are correct ones, you need a receiving application to be able to show the media, which isn't always the case, or you need a third application to preview your files. Second, GUI file managers can utilize a mouse cursor, which is often much faster than typing "mv this there" etc. Also having few buttons to quickly switch view modes (thumbnails, list, spreadsheet), tabs, splits, and sorting stuff is really useful. If your file manager supports mouse operations, including drag and drop, then why you call it non-GUI? It is really a GUI-sh file manager, with clickable zones and other features, just stylized to draw its contents with ASCII symbols. Which is only a benefit if your machine has really low-tier hardware. Also I could drag-n-drop a picture from a browser into Dolphin and save it. Maybe I am lucky???
