It took me a little while and the right pattern to really get excited. Some of the "hero" prints are still a little too bold for me. I used up every "animal" print from all my older subscriptions on Walter's quilt and he loves it.... and I loved getting to use up some prints I didnt want to use in my other quilts!

I really loved this quilt but honestly I just can’t do foundation paper piecing.

I plan to do a detailed tutorial each month. Once you get into the swing of things I feel like i can be sloppier when Im sewing with paper than with out and the bocks turn out great! But I understand if you dont enjoy the method!

I make copies of the patterns and find it less expensive than using all of fat quarters expensive sheets. I find it also better to save the expensive ones for a later or do over project which i feel there are never exstras …

Me too! I have a couple videos of my homemade version and here is my take away.... make it and use it same day or next day. After that thow it out and cook a new batch. You starch fabric before cutting and so does Kimberly from FQS. What is the benefit of doing this? I have never starched first, just pressed.

If you starch, you want to do it before you cut- to allow it to shrink first. - I like to starch because it makes the fabric slightly stiffer and less "stretchy" so my blocks dont distort or worry about handeling them too much. It also reduces loose threads. I did a project recently with Kona cotton and no starch and thought Id loose my mind!

I also have found that my seams and blocks are more accurate with starching versus not. Although it feels tedious and wasteful! Starching is a must as a beginner.
