I think they're not just "Kikokuryu" but "Beni Kikokuryu". Let me write it in kanji, 「紅輝黒竜」. 紅 means "deep red". 輝 means "shining". 黒 means "black". 竜 means "Dragon". So overall, Beni Kikokuryu means "Deep red shining black dragon". I'm Japanese. I hope this will help you to understand the meaning of this koi's name.

Love the story of dragon gate! So much so that I have a tattoo on my forearm of a koi which is in the process of transforming into a dragon,has a cross between a koi and dragons head ,has the body of a fish but with spines on its back instead of a dorsal fin

Pause the video at 6:14 and these fish don't look real. They look like an awesome painting. They are amazing. I so badly want a pond at my house. I need to start digging! What are your thoughts on above grade ponds...something similar to what's in this video. Maybe dig down some but then use railroad ties above grade as well to deepen the pond? I know it makes things less natural looking, but sometimes function > form.

okkoem Glad you noticed! It is a very expensive camera!!! CanonEOS and the lenses are crazy money too!! My Producer is very particular about his equipment. We are using an 18 millimeter lens in this video. You will notice during our How To build a Koi Pond Series we purchased a 50 millimeter lens so we coming out with different perspectives! We love this!!!!

2:03 My koi has that same red dot! The coloration is so similar to mine. The colors are a bit different from my koi and mine is butterfly. I don't think mine is a Ki Kokuryu.

Here is a question, I know that Koi and the common Gold Fish are both part of the carp family. If you get a small enough Koi, can you keep it small so it stays in the pond you put it in, or will it eventually outgrow the pond you put it in?
