Dragon Quest Builders 2 on Switch vs PS4 - Which Should You Get?

Now that we got our hands on the demo for Dragon Quest Builders 2, we sit down to talk about the pro's and con's of the PS4 and Nintendo Switch versions!

I tried the demo on the computer and even though it fits the recommendations that steam said the game would need it wasn’t that smooth and while fun I think maybe I’ll go for the console version. Thank you for this video. I can now clearly see both versions. I ain’t a full on graphics person but choppiness and texture quality can hurt my experience (like spongebob on switch hurts my eyes but on the PS4 it doesn’t) . So yeah good video. It helped me be more informed on my purchase.

The switch 😂 I had the first game on PS4, loved the controls. But I pay for online for the switch and not PSN+ sooooo. Also with the ability to bring it wherever and lay in bed using it as a handheld. Can’t beat it. The graphics trade off is worth it.

Even though it runs at 1080p/30fps (20-30fps, really), Portable Mode runs just fine at 720p/30fps and the game isn't graphically standing out enough on PS4 where it is objectively better. And even though I have a big problem with the resolution they chose, at 1080p/30fps, which makes it look comparable to the PS4, but sacrifices performance in return (would have vastly preferred 720p/60fps like the first game), the Switch version still has more benefits going for it. Frame rate is truly the most notable thing the PS4 original has over the Switch port, with other things being minor such as draw distance and such. If you own both and will only play at home, PS4, only for the frame rate. If you play games on the go a lot, Switch is just fine. I want an option for 720p/60fps in Docked Mode for Switch, though. It desperately needs it due to the inconsistent frames.

Portable mode does not run just fine. I've tried it myself and it runs SLIGHTLY better, still stutters and has frame drops consistently. It's not an excuse just because it's portable. Some of us don't want to stare at a small screen as opposed to a large TV just to get 3-5 frames more. People keep saying on youtube and reddit that portable mode is a huge difference and it's not at all. It's minor at best.

I have the ps4 and the switch and love them both! I do not find many differences between the two games! So I took this great game on Switch because it's the holidays ... and I can build everywhere!

I played DQBI on PS4 but I got DQB2 on the Switch digital download, not sure why but there you have it :) I called Nintendo because when I was laying down blocks in Moonbrooke, there was a constant studdering with the blocks. They asked me a few questions about how I had the console set up. When I went out to the living room to play I received a download....started the game and holy moly, NO STUDDERING, the game ran smooth.

Liked the first one on Nintendo Switch, but after playing the demo of Builders 2 on PS4 I can't back to Switch. The difference between 30 and 60 fps is very noticeable. Not a big mobile fan anyways. Craning my neck for hours, staring at a tiny screen becomes very uncomfortable. The more screen real estate the better imo.

I’m getting the Switch version since I’m going on vacation in the next few weeks. I like to travel a lot so portability will be nice. Does anyone know if the Slime Stack DLC preorder bonus is on the Switch as well? I know it’s on PS4 but I’m not sure if the Switch has that preorder bonus.

I picked up my physical copy of Builders 2 for my Switch yesterday, and it came with a little code page for the Slime Stack DLC. It's for Switch too

Recently played through the main campaign of Switch and thoroughly enjoyed it. So much so that I will be double-dipping for the PS4, once I've finished some other games. I think the biggest question people have to ask themselves when it comes to which version to go for is "How much do I value the portability, and is the decrease in performance worth it?". I'd be lying if I said the FPS issue didn't bother me at all (it gets particularly bad on the second island), but otherwise wasn't a huge detractor.

I feel the same way! I bought it for Switch and I kinda regret it. Thought because I got it for Switch I would be playing it a lot more on the go but I just don't really have enough time to sink into a game like that playing on the go.. All the time I have played it so far has been docked.. so I may aswell should of got it for PS4.

PS4 all the way. I don't care for portability and my Switch is perma-docked as a home console. The PS4 version has better performance by a ton, has sharper shadows and less texture compression artifacting. Nintendo's online "service" sucks too. I've played both demos as well because why not. :P

I've been playing this game on Switch for a couple weeks. The framerate is terrible especially with a lot of NPCs around. At some points (second town, underground temple in second town, during battles in third town etc) it becomes a slide show for a few seconds. It's just not good. 30 fps sometimes, usually dipping below 20 and stutters. There are a lot of videos out there showing how the PS4 version runs much better.

so why is nobody really talking about the poor frame rates on the Switch version? framerate consistently dips to 22+/- FPS with it only getting a high of 35+/- FPS in empty areas. thats a deal breaker for me. maybe you guys don't care about how smooth a game is but it's almost unplayable for me. PS4 seems to keep a consistent 60fps, so that seems to be the only platform this is playable at...

Switch has so Bad Fps its never 30 its gets much worse at second Island the fps get so Low like 10 fps or even some load freezes. Its not fun. Wont even think about when you build much on your Main Island..

I never have that problem with the 2nd island the game runs perfectly on the 2nd island when I play are u sure nothing is wrong with ur switch.🤔

@@lorianngarcia15 perfectly would be stable 60fps and no lag at all. It never runs really smooth only when you Look up in the sky. And my switch is fine some of my friends who has played it too have the same really Bad Performance issues. Switch is a weak console. Im a PC gamer so i know what Performance and quality can be ;)

@@DerZekroxin The Switch isnt a weak console, it is weaker than the Ps4 because it is a hybrid console. The issue is usually at the ports
