It's well-known that Akira Toriyama is responsible for the character designs of Dragon Quest, and recently the process has become clearer.
We'll show you some rough sketches by Horii and a part of the finished version by Toriyama.

Everyone has heard of Akira Toriyama creating the iconic slime from Yuji Horii's sketches, but I never really noticed how fantastic some of the other ones turned out! Interestingly, "ondina" also translates directly as 'little wave' in Italian, and most forms of Latin. Interesting how it became the name for a sea-demon.
