I've played this game since release and I can say that it's pretty neat! The treasure collecting is fun, the artstyle is nice, the music is very charming as always. The combat is surprisingly cool! The only thing I could complain about is the variety of monsters, there are some cool monsters, but there's way too less. But it doesn't matter too much because the treasure hunting is fun. This review is really accurate and I agree!

So, I got two copies of the game. One for myself and one for my grandma for Christmas. She has played Breath of the Wild and Dragon Quest 11 and loves them to death so hearing it kind of combines the two with Eric being her favorite character from the game just makes me happy. Honestly I'm so happy to hear such wonderful reviews from everyone so far. I haven't purchased the game myself yet but it's at the top of my list with Fire Emblem. I truly hope this game does well because I think if the ideas are expanded upon (Think DQ Builders 2 compared to 1, but for this game) then we could get something truly great and not just something that's more of a "hidden gem" esq experience. Plus with Dragon Warrior Monsters being one of my favorite GBC games I want a new one of those too, so if this game does well then perhaps we'll get more in this vein.

Like many DQ game, this one is built on layers. It seems simple at first and they just keep adding, and adding... and adding... just when you think okay, this is it... nope more... and more and.... I have not hit the end of the "hey additional feature, also here are more monsters, bet you thought there weren't any more, hey you know those simple bosses? How about real bosses that make you learn to fight zelda style?" it just keeps adding. I have no idea where the end will be, but it seems like it could eventually end up as in depth as the franchise is known for, even if it is taking it's time getting there... which may actually just be me because all the little features are very distracting from actual forward progress, lol. I do wish they had more monster builds, but the fact that they can have random hats and be made from various materials is a nice touch. And yes, you can recruit gem, metal and hat monsters.

@@BMWe-oz9wk I genuinely think you’ll love it, especially if you’ve played any of the DQ games. It was fairly cheap when I grabbed it on Amazon a while ago. The beginning is a tiny bit slow but just give it a little bit- don’t judge off of the first few hours and if you’re looking for a chill run low stress game after work/before bed I think you’ll love it. It’s pretty wholesome and just fun. I don’t usually seek those qualities out in games but once I played it I realized how refreshing it was to not be frustrated and stressed after play sessions. I’ve now come to embrace more chill games but this game is perfect- not too boring like a farming sim can be but definitely not stressful.

I don't know if it has a demo, but if it does, please try it! I purchased DQTreasures based on this video review here, and I'm really enjoying it! It's pure adventuring and exploration. I don't think it is. DQ spin offs tend to do "what if" alternative non canon timelines reusing popular characters and world lore up to the point of divergence. If you play DQ Builders 2, they actually kinda explain how that happens too, which is neet... and makes spin offs kinda sort of cannon but like alternate universe canon.
@tonimarra51692 жыл бұрын
It is related to DQXI as far as Erik is a thief and his Sister Mia are raised by Pirates. Erik can steal the loot from the monsters. Mia wants to go out and find treasures and is totally obsessed with it that she turns into a gold monster. They also discussed going out to find treasures after Erik was done with helping the hero.

Being weaker than your team is on purpose, and you can unleash the dragon for stat boosts that make you very strong. This has a lot of DQMonsters, so your monsters will tend to do most battle. Wow, so I just finished listening to the original part of the review in this video... and wow, that is a bad review. I don't mean they reviewed the game as being bad. I mean the review itself is bad, good thing the video guy added a bit. I understand reviewers are under a lot of pressure, but the first reviewer made a HUGE mistake. He mis-genred it. This is NOT a jrpg in any shape or form what so ever and if you review it like it is, no duh the review is going to end up low quality. I am completely flabbergasted that he suggested it as a beginner jrpg when it isn't even a jrpg. Weird. This is an action exploration collectathon game and is no more a jrpg than The Legend of Zelda series is. The depth gets layered in as you play and complete quests and experiment with the battle system that thankfully the second reviewer touched a little more on that, though there is even more to it if you get into the pellets. Another thing that stands out is that the first author seems to have completely missed the metal system, and talked about how much having 2 characters didn't matter, except it does once you learn to customize them. DQ games are really hard on reviewers because DQ games have pacing to introduce people who have never played a game in their life to complex mechanics and that means they feed in the systems as you play which means it can take a lot of time to see everything a game has to offer, so I feel it is important that reviewers be given enough time to do it properly and if they are not DQ literate, probably shouldn't be pressured into making a review for the games because this kind of a review is just embarrassing. That said, I have yet to encounter any "wow that is super not kid friendly" moments in my play through so it might be kid safe, DQ games are notorious for slipping in surprises though so I wouldn't hold my breath. I think kids could probably enjoy the start of the game, but unless it is using some AI to taylor difficulty to player skill, it might get a bit rough around level 40 without very strong reading comprehension. Overall, I find it to be a bit too collectathon not enough adventure to make the top of my list, DQ Builders 2 currently holds that place, but the game is a solid homage to the series with its thousandish trophies celebrating every nook and cranny of the franchises history. Slime shaped frying pan from the "other worldly" collection included. I am also rather fond of the Zelda style bosses and other alternative game loops that open up while you play.
@ShadamAran2 жыл бұрын
This game is NOT about collecting treasure, it's nostalgic vendor trash, and the reason to get you moving throughout the world. the real gameplay IS combat and exploration, as well as scouting and building your monster team. While combat itself is very simple, not bad, just simple, it has some real depth in terms of the enemy weaknesses and the monsters that accompany you. This game isn't hard, but it is great FUN
@penitente33372 жыл бұрын
Collecting treasure is literally obligatory to progress the story and what most mechanics revolve around. Having treasure reference other games is a simple bonus. The reason you explore is for treasure, literally, as you need it to progress the story either through money or dragonstones. Combat is there, but it's not an objective or one of the main selling points for sure. This game isn't about battling and was never advertised as such.

Not really worth playing, it’s not a bad game, not a good one either. Loading times are atrocious the graphics are bad, the story is non existent. It’s a good time waster but there is bare minimum to do and there is so much back track and repetition and could have used more monsters. I played the game start to finish and I was disappointed, I had medium expectations for the game but they wasn’t met for me. It’s not worth 60$. The game has only 70 monsters and most of them are reskins of the same monster for example 5 slimes 5 golems 4 great saber cats etc. Was this the best they could do? For a series that has hundreds of monsters. They spent more time on treasure sprites which look great the best part of the game is seeing what neat piece of old dragon quest history you would collect next

Why on earth did you complain so much about the 2 playable characters being the same??? It's a gender choice! Hello?!? Making abilities exclusive to either would force people away from playing the one they like and push them towards playing whichever is stronger, and half or more people would end up mad that they can't play the one they like.

not tryna sound like a jerk, but how can you review a game when you’ve only put 5 hours in? you’ve said multiple times that you can’t sink 100+ hours into it, but how would you even know that? how can you talk about the plot? you haven’t experienced it yet. you should complete a game before review, man. i completely stopped listening 9 minutes in

What the hey? Graphics are bland? Maybe im the only one that thinks the graphics are dense with geometry and vast vitas with really neat, big landmarks in the far off distance.
