This is my favorite Dragon Quest boss theme. Perfectly represents facing overpowering and devious enemies, which you valiantly fight against but are ultimately not strong enough to defeat at the time either due being just a child or being unaware of how low your foes will stoop. This is represented in the music by the heros’ part of the theme (the woodwinds) being overpowered by the relentless brass section. It’s a hugely effective and quite terrifying piece of music. Almost all other DQ boss themes are like a rallying cry to rise up, fight valiantly and emerge victorious, but not this one. This theme says your best may not be good enough.

Single handily the best regular boss theme of the entire series. It really gives the feel that these monsters are not fucking around and will kill you if you fuck up. Sugiyama is a genius

And even if you don’t, they can still win for story related boss fights.

Wow this song in particular really comes alive with the orchestra. You can really feel an air of uncertainty and danger.

The MIDI one from Battle Road Victory/Heros 2/Builders 2 is pretty good as well! Probably one of the better quality MIDI songs out there in terms of Dragon Quest.

Very threatening and fearful theme...the way this is arranged nake it seem you're fighting a giant! This is also in Dragon Quest Builders 2, and its just as mentioned above.

And you literally fight a giant boss/demon in the game for the final key. One the hardest encounters if you are underlevelled made all the more intense by this theme.

I like the feeling of death and danger in this boss theme. It makes every boss battle feel like the ultimate fight to the death.
This sounds so much better than the ds version that it isn't fair

Its a shame this series isn't more well known in the West. At times, it's better than Final Fantasy.

Who’s hyped for Dragon Quest XI S?

Me. Since it is created only for Nintendo Switch version. Imagine if they were allowed to put the orchestra version on behalf of the composer? They would pay him handsomely in order to make him accept the offer.

This sounds like final boss material, and it absolutely is not in the context of the game. How come we can't get another port of the the PS2 version!? This soundtrack is killer!
@granzedora2 жыл бұрын
Crazy part is this was the NHK symphony score. Orchestrated in the same year this game originally released in 1992

I am playing the PS2 version now, in essentially a 4K widescreen experience simulating this being a port to a moderne console (or PC). Only 1/8 of the way through and it’s utterly beautiful, battle animations are always dynamic and pop right in your face. You get that right out of the gate when fighting your first group of slimes, or when an enemy chucks an attack spell at you; their attacks get right in your face, it’s an immersive effect. Square put a lot of loving care into making it, relegating that to handheld or mobile in North America feels like it was done out of spite (as if Japan is the only worthy audience for their masterpiece.) They (Square) think the only people that play DQ games in the west are casuals who play on a hand held while studying, or in a coffee shop for a few minutes to fill their downtime. And yet Final Fantasy ALWAYS gets console releases for their flagship titles.

This would have made a better final boss theme than the one we got in DQV tbh

i sort of like the Super Famicom version better, there's something really abstract about it, although i am impressed by the acoustics hall echo effect in this one. the intro for this is somewhat scary but after that the track kind of loses its focus and menacing intent, i wish he couLd've kept it going through the whoLe track
