For those who complain about the 3DS Music, there is a patch that allows you to listen to the orchestrated version, it’s for the American cartridge. It’s way better!!!

The Original Japanese game is the orchestrated version (even some songs sound different) but, due to copyright, that was removed outside of Japan. You can choose between the PS2 or the “New” 3DS version with this patch.

If I'm honest, both versions look great. I would say the PS2 version is better, due to the 3DS version over saturating everything and making the grass look radioactive for example. Otherwise, they both look great emulated here.

I own both. I like the option of speeding up battles on 3DS and no random encounters, but the PS2's music just makes the game for me. It's not like the 3DS couldn't handle it. The symphonic score was used in the original Japanese version, although I believe it lacks voice acting.

Nope, the 3ds port of VIII has no symphonic ost in Japan. Maybe you are thinking on the 3ds remake of VII that has it in Japan.

@@feiwong3634 So I looked up a few videos of the Japanese version. It's strange. Some of the songs are orchestrated, but some also aren't, and there is Japanese voice acting. Like the first town theme was MIDI, but the main theme, overworld theme, and battle theme were all symphonic. Kinda like DQXI on the Switch.

You are playing DQ8 PS2 on emulator, and with graphics glitches, where is the shadows? shadows do a important role in dq8 and is the ultimate flaw on 3ds version....

Theres no way the texture filtering is that good on the ps2 either, thats like anisotropic 16x. Ps2 had trilinear

I know its 9 months later, but need to change the renderer to OpenGL software so you can see and follow the shadow. After you pass this part, you can go back to Direct3D Hardware. Thats what I did.

Al no ser un videojuego hecho desde cero para 3ds. Hay cositas que se dejaron en el camino en este port. Los personajes han perdido sus sombras definidas en post de unas circulares sin procesamiento. Los personajes han perdido colores, en ps2 podemos ver hasta una gama de colores más brillantes y en 3ds es más chillón. Los fondos tiene menos detalle y los entornos han perdido algún elemento. Es un buen port, y un videojuego que recomiendo a todo el mundo en 3ds. Por cierto esto es emulacion y el Aliasing es más pronunciado en 3ds como también una menor resolución. En la emulación vemos que hay glitch gráficos. Pero buena comparativa para que en resolución y AA al mismo nivel veamos los detalles gráficos cuál luce mejor. Gana ps2 por poco. Pero gana.

jajajajaja.......NO! XD Wii es una putísima mierda técnica para el 2007. Incompatible con shaders y las ligeras mejoras con respecto a GC se las llevaba el WIIMOTE. Por tanto WII es inferior a la primera XBOX. Y te digo esto porque es la realidad, si te duele, la culpa la tiene nintendo por sacar consolas desfasadas XD. Pero a mi no me culpes. XBOX siempre han sido las mejores consolas en potencia. en todas las generaciones, XBOX ONE X es la última. La siguiente apunta también que lo será. Tú mientras defiendes una consola como WII que era una verguenza que no tenía ni potencia para mover un DOOM 3 o un Facry como el de XBOX. jajaja.

Doom 3 en gamecube? jajaja. Pero si Doom 3 usaba la tecnología de iluminación por shaders de las mejores gráficas del momento basadas en DX9 a dónde vas muchacho? qué te fumas? XDXD Si precisamente Gamecube es incompatible con esos shaders por hardware. Es que es imposible de hacer en gamecube y WII, por eso nunca salieron, muchos de los que se ven tan bien en XBOX, no podían ser porteados ni a ps2 ni gamecube por sus limitaciones. Tú sabes la Memoria Ram que pedía Doom 3 como mínimo? 512 mb de Ram en un PC. XBOX fue optimizada para que el sistema pudiera correrlo con 64 mb, incluso la gforce nv2a de nvidia tuvo que remapear ciertos shaders del DX9, para ser corridos bajo la api DX8.1 de XBOX Gamecube a parte que no podía mostrar esa iluminación dinámica y número de polígonos como en XBOX, si hubieran hecho una versión hubiera sido un videojuego super capado y con una iluminación mierdera con muchos efectos eliminados. Tú no has visto el Splinter cell chaos theory de WII?, pues algo así hubiera salido. Así que no te flipes tanto con la gamecube, que en realidad no estaba muy alejada de lo que hacía ps2. Era XBOX la que si estaba muy por encima de esas dos, y se vio con sus exclusivos. Incluso el Kameo que salió en XBOX 360, hay una versión beta de ese videojuego, y los entornos y como se ve en XBOX, es alucinante si hubiera salido también. Es al final de la vida de XBOX donde se vieron cosas alucinantes en esa consola. Podría haber aguantado mucho más tiempo en el mercado. Estaba más cerca a PS3 y X360, que lo que hizo WII, que era como ps2 a nivel gráfico.

Todo depende de quien lo diga y juegue, yo acabo de terminar la versión de 3ds y me encanto, pero ni loco pienso que la portabilidad es todo ni tampoco que por poner la velocidad x2 en las batallas es mejor, de hecho yo sentía que hacía un tipo de trampa por no jugarlo como en el original. Sinceramente me hubiese gustado jugar mas versión de PS2 por ser la icónica pero no tuve la oportunidad pero 3ds tampoco me decepcionó, fue una experiencia hermosa. Ni usted ni yo tenemos la verdad absoluta, eso depende de cada jugador.

@@iamjimb No, in the NTSC PS2 version of 8, when you reach "Super High Tension," the Hero legit goes Super Saiyan in a tribute to Dragon Ball. 11 doesn't quite have that. But yeah, only in the NTSC PS2 version. In the original Japanese version, and all 3DS versions, the Super Saiyan hair is gone.

If you haven't finished the story, you're not supposed to know what happen in the alternative final and the boss fight that pulls a new form till he gets a MF Iper-Ultra-Mega-Giga form of dragon (fortunately this boss battle isn't important for the story, but it's hard even if you are at max level, I beat all dragon bosses together just one time), like Goku. In fact the creator of the design of the characters is Akira Toriyama.

The textures look better on the 3DS (like the trees at the beginning of the video) but the PS2 seems to have a higher polygon count on the 3D models, still it's pretty impressive how close the 3DS version is to the PS2 version considering the limitations from the handheld.

Ps2 still way better. With enhancer mods it looks great, and the music… no comparison. Also, turning the camera with the shoulder buttons on 3ds doesn’t feel good at all. Works okay for 2d DQ, not for 3d.

I can play it on my beauitful 27 inch monitor upscaled to 1440p using PCSX2 or the og 3ds. One more option is using Moonlight gamestream to control my PC using my phone. Also Citra in my phone can emulate the game but i chose the 3DS. It's the most comfortable one to play when you just wanna roll on the bed or sofa. Honestly i like the brighter lighting in the 3ds version.

Seriously arguably the best dragon quest game EVER would 100% be even more epic on the switch. Better gameplay graphics and why the hell not add new DLC new outfits new weapons new ending with the hero marring Red(how awesome would that be) new secret bosses easier way to level up with everyone’s favorite those happy metal slims. El mejor es el 5 y el 3 y el 11 me ha gustado más que el 8. Pero cómo conociste la saga con ese juego tienes ese criterio, Dragon Quest me figura como si Zelda no hubiera vendido en occidente ni A link to the past ni ocarina, y el twilight hubiera sido el Zelda que llega a occidente después de muchos años seguro toda la prensa occidental diría que es mucho mejor videojuego que ocarina y que a link to the past, sin entender lo que significaron esos juegos en su momento, así pasa con Dragon Quest que los primeros 3 llegaron con mucho tiempo de retraso a Norteamérica y parecía que iban a atrás de final fantasy (cuando esta era la que copiaba y seguía los pasos de DQ) y el 5 que no salió en occidente y nadie pudo entender lo rompedor que era en su época

I’m just happy that the 3ds has been phased out. We no longer get to see ports of great games going to that dinosaur of a gaming system. If only the Vita did better, we could have gotten this game and DQ7 with better gfx and trophies...or it have been held off for a switch release. Atleast we got PCSX2 though.

@@Loxly-ti4sq For the PS2 maybe, but afaik the emu for the 3ds is not yet compatible with this game so you cant play it yet on a pc, although using a cfw you can play it undub, orchestrated and uncensored but for the framerate on the 3ds it will still be choppy in some areas. I'd still go with the 3ds though bcoz of portability..

Randoms encounters isn't a con, it's a game design choice. It's like saying that open-world is a pro which it isn't, it's just a game design choice as well. You can have crappy open-worlds (Pokemon Sword and Shield) or amazing open-worlds (Zelda Breath of the Wild). There some people like me who actually prefer randoms encounters. And the immediate Alchemy Pot is actually a con to me. The purpose was to wait until it was ready. This feature was only a thing after the Dragovian Trials. It's just an another attempt to needlessly make the game more casual (just like the quicksaves) while a part of what made this game so good was its difficulty.
