I'm a Japanese 🇯🇵 who has been playing this game for almost 9 years. Although this is a Dragon Quest title that has not been released overseas, I hope international players will also enjoy it. However, the system is old compared to modern game systems, the players, have been asking for more comfort. This is a very long story. The problem is the game's porch. In this game, you can't equip equipment unless you meet a certain job level. As you keep upgrading, your pouch will fill up unless you discard your equipment or convert it into items. If you've played traditional Dragon Quest games, you might think that you can just sell your equipment. However, DQX has a system where once you equip an item, you cannot sell it in the player's market. This is because the game encourages players to convert used equipment into special items rather than sell them. Next, the game's equipment ecosystem. Each piece of equipment has a parameter called "usage level" which is automatically earned when you win a battle. If you raise this "usage level" to more than half, you can exchange it for conversion items. Equipment is crafted by players called "artisans," who need the conversion items mentioned above to make a single piece of equipment. The conversion items are sold at a high price in the player's market. The artisan uses the converted item to make equipment and sells it to the market. The player sells the conversion item→ The craftsman buys the converted item, makes equipment from it, and sells it to the market.→ The player buys more powerful equipment. This is how the equipment ecosystem works. New players will probably be surprised at the price of equipment when they try to buy it in the player's market. This equipment ecosystem has led to a lot of equipment being reworked to higher levels, mid-level equipment is now dropping from some monsters in the past update. However, these dropped equipment could not be sold in stores and could not be turned into the conversion items mentioned earlier. Nowadays, thanks to the ability to release the effects of advanced armor, advanced players can no longer convert or discard equipment that they have used. This advanced armor also includes equipment from drops. In the past update, which was made to solve the depletion of equipment for intermediate profession levels in the ecosystem, has been a major factor in putting pressure on players' equipment. In addition, some equipment is traded in the market for new equipment at high prices, forcing us players to squeeze our pouches. The lack of pouch space is a perennial problem. If youre still playing this game, id recommend getting set up in the discord for english players. They have links to stuff like deepl for translating dialogue boxes, clarity for most menu stuff, and ahkmon for giving you those deepl translations. Its not perfect, but it makes dialogue at least half ass readable if you arent fluent in japanese.

2:20 someone didnt do their homework. DQIX has a local multiplayer and is in my opinion one of the best RPG ever. Being able to create your own character and actually seeing the armor you’re wearing is so amazing for the limited capabilities of the nds. Yet they didn’t manage to implement even the armor in DQXI. I just don’t understand that they buried the mechanics of DQIX behind the big language barrier of DQX. They need to do a DQIX remastered or DQX offline US/Europe

Dragon Warrior on NES was my very first RPG. I had no idea it was Dragon Quest for years and forgot what the name of it even was, it was one of those really early childhood memories. I just remember loving a game where i could name characters and adventure. I don't think i ever got past level 1 or 2 lol, but at like age 4 i was having a blast! I would love to get this working. Dragon Quest games have a certain charm to them.

@@thatguybis1997 I do a little dimmsdale dimma dab with my japanese knowledge to help me out. And luckily, like you mentioned, it isn't like ffxiv where it's WALLLLLLS OF TEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEXT. It's also smart enough and simple but layered enough that you can figure out the story beats with no real knowledge of japanese.

@@aleckbo there's no need, there are tools now that translate the entire game for you. I've played around 60 hours so far in English with no problem other than the odd wonky translation that's more funny than it is frustrating.

I am a big fan of Dragon Quest series, and I played almost every single game in the main series and finished some of them like 5, 7, 8 and 11, also I played many MMO games starting from Line Age 2, World Of Warcraft and Final Fantasy 14, from day 0 of Dragon Quest 10 release date until this day... I am dreaming of this game and I really need to play and enjoy it... but the Language barrier is the problem for me, I am happy while watching this video of your experience... The translations are at a point where versions 1-5 story cutscenes are fully hand translated. I forget it was never localised sometimes because of how good the translations have got

My only gripe with it is that you can't have a full party to control. It's other offline players that you can hire, and you can't individually control or edit them. I don't wanna go solo on missions, but I want other characters I can use in my party like in any other Dragon Quest game.

I couldn't agree more with being bored to death in XIV. I hear people talk about how awesome it is constantly, but then the towns themselves are zoned, and I got to like level 9 or 10 without leaving the town, and I was just...just so freaking bored. That game moves at a GLACIAL pace.

Same here the game clicked for me instantly upon playing. Although admittedly had it had none been for my friends who gave me pointers to unlock a lot of the basic stuff that will help you go a long way I might have dropped it out of being lost in what to do at one point. Understanding what I should be doing in the game or what I can do made the game so much better for me.

I highly recommend getting the mount, it's super easy to get too. It increases your walk speed by 2x or more

Im a seasoned MMO player myself. I believe finding other folks you want to play with is a crucial element of why people will play MMOs longterm. I don't think I would have stayed playing FF14 beyond its main story if I didn't run into my guild. Its not as fun doing content by yourself.

My first experience with mmo was final fantasy 11 on the ps2 and I enjoyed it but never completed it.i spent 3 years on that game. ESO was my second mmo ,never completed it eather ,spent 4 years on it with my ps4 I always been a fan of DQ most of all. I remember beating DQ11 3DS version in japanese just because the formula is exactly like dq1 to dq9, and also by the help of muscle memory, memorizing the placements of abilities in the menu. 🤣 Show no mercy and fight wisely helps too, feels like achievement

If you play the game on PC there is an auto translator someone in the Dragon's Den made, it works wonders on understanding what's going on in this incredible game. Plus you can play your Switch character on PC if you link your account, definitely worth a try!

I'm not an MMO fan either, however, I recently got into The Legends of IdleOn. I am super addicted to this game, oh my lord☠️ I legit think it's the perfect MMO. It allows multiple characters all linked to the same account that share the same storage chest, you unlock more as your collective level gets higher. Also, it allows AFK farming, so you do need to grind a lot, however, you can just set your character(s) to do it, then go to work, and reap the benefits when you get home (AFK farming is slower, but not unreasonable, plus, you can level AFK speed up). It's literally an MMO you can get somewhere on without wasting your life away just to get somewhere! It seems simple at first, but there's more to it than meets the eye. It's essentially a 2D RuneScape that's not as boring and far more engaging. The only con is that the better items and features are behind a paywall, however, you don't need to pay to enjoy it/get good gear, but there are certain really great things you cannot get without paying, such as auto-loot. On the bright side, you can wait for offers, and they're very, very reasonably priced. Auto-loot cost me £4.79, and it came with 8+ chest spaces, and +6 bag spaces, as well as 900 gems. Any other game, that would cost £20-£30.

The problem with FFXIV is that it gets praised as a fantastic MMO but its not meant to be played as an MMO. It’s a Final Fantasy game where the story is the most important part of the game, not a WoW clone where combat is everything. I don’t think fans love the game because it has the best combat or raids (though they are still pretty good), I think fans love the WORLD. The large expanse of small details and characters that slowly reveal a bustling landscape and meticulously detailed lore. Characters have real flaws and you get to watch their changes in personality (hello Thancred). Maybe you went in expecting a WoW or BDO clone instead of a classic FF game, and you were disappointed for not getting what you thought you would get. It’s certainly not for everyone, but everyone should at least give it a shot. That all being said, did you even PLAY shadowbringers?

yeah I also cant stand mmos, The clutter of them is more annoying than fun for me like you need 30 different key binds for your abilities and need to remember ability 5+8+20 does this effect while I need abilty 6+19+27 in case this happens like no. I really enjoyed FFXIV then again it was my first MMO I played, so my experience was much different from yours and really enjoyed it even more first few hours. I'm sorry but if I cannot understand the language, and have the look up a video or website, it's just not worth it for me, it's the same issue, I have with Phantasy Star 2. Sorry but I'd rather just stick to FFXIV, I enjoy it's combat and it's stories. I just can't help think your really hyping this game (though I do believe you like it), just to put down FFXIV just because it's popular, as if it didn't deserve the level or praise it gets. I get the first hours of the game are slow, but hell a lot of MMOs are like that and people still enjoy. I guess it's more of a patience thing.

For as much as I like the way you reviewed the game (fair comparisons to FFXIV and all), I believe you should DEFINITELY put a spoiler warning. You reveal a vital piece of information regarding the races that should be left for the players to discover. In any case, great review!!!!

FF14 wasn't that great. I played about 150 hrs. it's just very polished and there's no other decent options besides WoW.

Not here to shit on you or anything, but as someone with over 2500 hours in Final Fantasy XIV, the only thing I can say is this; I understand that the first expansion, and the quests between A Realm Reborn and Heavensward can be boring and not that great, but it definitely has gotten much strong and better in the latter expansions. Especially Shadowbringers. Not saying you should give it another try, but if I had to choose between being able to make one character and play all jobs, or make multiple characters to play a job, and have to do the stories over and over again, Final Fantasy XIV has definitely won it for me.

it would be fun if they had a system like in dragon quest 8 with the monster arena, you collect your own team and then just click battle and they fight another team from a different player. this could be added in the casino area and other could bet on it or something like that.

As someone with over 1000 hours in FF14 and considers it one of the best games he's ever played... It's unfortunate the game didn't work out for you, but that's also fine. MMOs aren't for everyone, and it sounds like you're not one of those people who'd really be able to get into an MMO. But hey, language barrier aside, at least DQ10 is working out for ya, so... silver lining?

@@SnowyNowak I recently started FF XIV like a week ago, and I'm liking it so far. I've started and quit this game many times before reaching level 15 for how slow the first quests are. But now I'm at level 20 and just started my first dungeon in satashta and it's pretty dope. The mentors in the novice network were telling me that If I liked the very first dungeon, I'm in for something big in the later expansions.

It’s an ATB-based thing from what I can tell. Works fairly well actually. Obviously though I doubt PVP would work very well in DQX.

@@thatguybis1997 Theres a pvp arena in the game, where 2 teams of 4 players fight each other, whenever someone gets ko'd the player respawns after a few seconds, and the team with most eliminations after the time runs out wins, although pvp doesn't really fit the game at least it exists, and ive heard it is pretty fun too

Mmos are always a long burn. Some people don't care about trying to play though different single player experiences. Time wise mmos are different but can still easily fit in someones schedule. I got 3 kids, house, etc and still find time to play 3 different mmos. The time spent is a lot different then playing a single player game but time wise it's still the same
