i think what was unique about this pitch was that Levi Roots WAS the brand for the product. His image, personality and song all went together with the sauce. He's made millions from it now with Peter J's help. He probably has sold 2,5 million litres by now !

I've just finished some Reggae Reggae Chicken Pasta and currently have some Reggae Reggae Rasta Pasta Sauce in my cupboard... Which I bought from a supermarket... Which had several shelves with just Reggae Reggae products on...

The Brown Knight Honestly if I was one of the dragons I would have lost interest because tbh that sauce itself was nothing special. It’s one of the weird food products that get no investment because of the risk but it suddenly makes millions - hamdog, shrimp burger, etc. But Peter proved his worth and his risk paid off

@Thirty9Days: Even the two that backed him admitted it was "a gamble" and "impossible challenge". It was Levi's charm that won them over, not their business sense. They were probably quite fortunate that it paid off - if they made a habit of these kinds of investments it wouldn't go so well the rest of the time. I think Levi's charisma worked on the rest of us too, and that was part of the reason for the success. It also helps that the sauce is bloody lovely.

Richard Farleigh says 2.5 million litres is enough for "something like one pint for every person in England" in 2010. Quick calculation shows his numbers are wrong too. The entrepreneur claims to have 2,500,000 litres of sauce ordered which is 5,282,500 pints. England's population in 2010 was 52,640,000. 52,640,000 ÷ 5,282,000 = 9.9649787033. About 1 pint between 10 people in England. Just saying.

I love this sauce but I think his success is pretty much all down to having a dragon on board opening doors for him. There's probably thousands of sauces out there that just can't get brought to market stores because they don't have the contacts or connections like Peter Jones here.

It's the brand, not the sauce. I could release the nicest sauce since ketchup and label it Matt's sauce, but the charisma and branding that Levi provided would be missing from my product. It's for that reason that I wouldn't be successful. Of course having the dragons help with the initial investment ensured that he could start his business, but the brand would have launched without them if Levi had the funds to create the product in the volumes he needed.
