I wished that the unmoored world didn't have a time limit, because it's the most fun and difficult part of the game, so it was the most enjoyable part to be in. It's a bit of a shame that the postgame rushes you and doesn't exactly allows you to savor how great the unmoored world is. Maybe we'll get a dlc eventually with smth like bitterblack isle, cuz that would be great

@@soneca798 Clearing out a beacon prevents the associated area from being claimed by the Brine, once all of them are cleared and the final one spawns the game has a soft time limit of in game days. Once that limit has been hit, you are no longer given the option to rest as the Unmorred World has reached its limit and will soon disappear, but in terms of gameplay you can just persist at that time limit indefinitely, you just have to figure out other ways of restoring your Max HP like Wakestones or All-Heals.

To your point I do wish there was more of a payoff for the Disa plotline, like a scene where you can see all the evidence and effort you've done in the early game working for Brant pay off. I don't know if it's copium or reading too much into things but I felt like the plot of the game felt like a 'retelling' of DD1, but it was like being retold by someone who really wants it to go a certain way. I guess a way to put it would be like if a dungeon master for a DND game wanted to run DRAGON'S DOGMA but then the players decided to go against the script and the DM was just getting irate, because the Pathfinder really felt like that sort of person to me. He wanted the world/game to go a certain way but you as the Arisen decided 'nah i'm gonna use the godsbane on myself' and his carefully planned plot is just thrown out of whack and he throws you into Hell World as 'punishment'. Even the Dragon (who I have to emphasise isn't even given a name, he's NOT Grigori) comes off as someone who's really sick of this endless cycle schtick and wants you to break the charade, to the point where he just berates you during his phoned in fight because the Arisen didn't think to use the macguffin during the ride to the final battle.

I'm pretty sure this is the point of the story, I mean his name is literally "Pathfinder", like the tabletop RPG. They couldn't have made it more obvious (unless they named him "The Writer"). The main story even feels like a bootleg version of the first game, especially if you compare it to some of the side stories which are mostly well done imo. I'm not sure if that's intentional tho.

For less important stuff but still welcome: House customization, armor dying, business ownership that functions similar to monhun farms but are physical places that get attacked and you must defend and or hire guards to defend, ability to have your beloved move into the home and host parties with invites, to liven up your home and have npcs gather.

One thing about Dark Arisen that I think DD2 is not benefiting from yet: As you progress Bitterblack Island, you gain certain noticeboard quests which add extremely difficult DLC monsters to the overworld such as the gorecyclops in soulflayer canyon, or living armor. Perhaps a future DLC can increase the variety and difficulty of the overworld! Not to mention, hard mode itself was originally a DLC for DD1. Maybe they can patch that in sooner because it's essentially just a multiplier! I would love to see a massive, labyrinthine DLC for DD2 in the future. Perhaps something involving the moon level they never got to realize in DD1.
@TheMightyNovac
@TheMightyNovac 9 ай бұрын
This. Besides, I think an end-game only really matters if the game already has end-game level DLC like DD1 had--as otherwise, you're just asking to keep exploring a world that's ran out of things to see, which can spoil a part of the magic. In general, I wish people realized that RPGs can just, like... end. They don't have to be infinite content machines, they can just be good until they reach the end and then stop. For some reason there's this baked in idea that every RPG has to be Diablo--it's very weird to me.
@DREADDWELLER
@DREADDWELLER 9 ай бұрын
@@TheMightyNovacI agree that a game like this can (and should) end. However with DD2 I am really yearning for a proper endgame simply because the main story itself is very uneventful and doesn't really play to the game's strengths. Tons of social pseudo-stealth and running in and out of Vernworth Castle talking to NPCs, then it just kinda fizzles out in Battahl until the final couple hours. The main quests never lead you into cool, unique dungeons or cinematic monster fights and fancy loot, which is what most of us are here for and which DD1 did a lot better. The fight with the dragon was really cool, but getting the game's ONE proper story-related boss requires you to go through a bad ending route. The unmoored world is a really cool idea but it only has a few hours worth of content and you can't even go through it at your leisure. The exploration is great, but that element of discovery only works the first time. To put it concisely, the lack of endgame is only an issue because the main game itself feels undercooked. I adore the game despite its flaws and will keep coming back to it, but it could have been so much more and it's frustrating how much potential goes untapped. I hope a DLC can flesh it out more and make it the masterwork it deserves to be.

Something I wonder about with uneven tolerances for mxt's in different games is that the games with milder mxt's creeping in are one's that attract more people who are intolerant of them. Say a Dragon's Dogma, or imagine if the next Fromsoft game had mxt's in it. Contrast with free to play, Diablo, World of Warcraft, etc., those audiences attract a different set of people with an overall different culture of values (maybe that's taking it too far). Anyways, I think there's something to this and Ruri has the misfortune, in some way, of being a mixture of both. He's into some of the heavy mxt games, has an intolerance for them, but ends up being on a bit of an island when it comes to railing against them because the bulk of the people who would be right there with him don't touch those games. I'm over here basically playing Elden Ring and Baldur's Gate till kingdom come then pepper in some Capcom and Nintendo and indies. So, when Dragon's Dogma or Monster Hunter have them, I might have a few moments of rage because I'm protective/defensive of the good games and don't want to lose the thread of relative pure for-enjoyment/quality game design.

The Finders Token was aweful, i retraced all the exploration parts i had done so far. But after i had gotten all the chests and gotten all the loot, the big one included, i felt so satisfied. I think the main reason people got upset about the microtransactions is because it seemed like Capcom intentionally hid them until the game launched, when it was too late for people to cancel their pre-orders, which created the perception that they'd tricked everyone into buying it before knowing about the microtransactions. I think if they'd been more up front about the microtransactions from the beginning, nobody would have cared, because the reviewers would have mentioned how they are very minor and don't deter from the gameplay at all.

Even now you keep comparing this poor game to everything else, I guess it will need a year or more before "crititcs" are able to judge it clearly on its own merit, along with GOT and Elden Ring it has the most FUN gameplay I've ever had in an open world, that MEANS something. It's a strong 7 or a weak 8 (so a 75/100) but a 9/10 for gameplay.

I will admit this game is pretty easy but it has enough challenge at levels 0-30 to always have you considering it and making your own struggle stories.. after a certain point you won’t be having those long struggling adventure moments which is disappointing

It became mind numbing as i could kill gryphon, golem etc, in somewhere between 30 sec-2 mins. Climbing mechanic is very cool, till it's too easy and you jump on head and spam attack and insta win. The hardest fight til late game is a dragon i just climb and spam and win in 2 min. Also exploration was cool, but you get some random roborant 90% of the time. I don't explore to get nothing of value. 8-12 skills per class was very narrow. Fighter felt like it had 4 real skills and 6 defensive that were useless since i can't die.

I don't think people "don't understand" it's an opinionated content, I believe it has more to do with people wishing they could be interacting with you debating the subject and agreeing or making counterpoints. But this happens in everything, even in fiction. Sometimes you watch a movie and say "man this character is dumb, he should've said that!". Or you watch a reality show in which people can't seem to be good at bringing up good arguments to debate someone else. We understand (at least some of us) that when you say "Y game sucks" it's just an opinion but there will always be this urge to reply "huh I wonder why you came up with this sentiment, maybe play the game like this", and just talk about it. For example, you or Ruri mentioned that BG3 3rd act is perceived as the weakest act of the game and as someone who thinks the opposite, that act 3 is by far the best, I wish I could chime in and defend it. I think that's all this is about.

The conversation about how people interpret what you say, is very much inline with the Neurotypical & Neurodivergent conversations. Neurotypicals are more prone to come into a conversation with their own preconceived notions & expect to see specific behaviours or special language being used & when it isn't they become defensive/aggressive. Neurodivergents are prone to take things at face value, listen or accept the contexts that are being presented in the moment rather than assume any preconceived ideas & also express back in that same literal way. There are overlaps & way, WAY, *WAY* more details & intricate parts I haven't mentioned but yeah. Very inline with that, which also connects to the broader conversations out there about how people today aren't communicating effectively but ppl aren't connecting together.

RE Stellar Blade and sexualization: Most with a head on their shoulders aren't just complaining that Eve is hot. After all, who on earth thinks that say a lesbian would be upset that a game they play has hot women? There's a divide in narrative and audience often in this debate. Sexuality is a form of self expression and when it makes sense it's appreciated by all, ie Bayonetta. 2B's design while joked about even by Yoko Taro as just because "hot woman good" is also very in sync with her tragic story with 9S and the overall work of art Automata is. Eve, on the other hand, doesn't look to fit in her world. Granted we only have some trailers and a small demo so more remains to be seen, but the environment and enemies don't match Eve's design weakening the showing. Her combat, however, is incredible and does. A good comparison is aforementioned Bayo or also Samus Aran whose Zero Suit look is very similar to Eve and the enemies of Metroid being very akin to the monsters of Stellar Blade, but Samus's look makes more sense in the scifi space setting not to mention she has a more combat oriented power suit to boot. Lastly, it's true that men also get hypersexualized designs, but how they are is not nearly as intimate. An impossibly muscular chest or chiseled jaw is much less sensitive than breasts (sometimes even with implied nips) or hips on a woman. Think about it: when's the last time you saw a male character design hypersexualized with bulge physics? That's the difference. TLDR Sexy =/= bad. It just depends on context. Hoping Stellar Blade is more of a game than character bait, and so far the demo is promising but showing flaws in continuity. Didn't expect to write this in a DD2 video but fun thought piece.
@amysteriousviewer3772
@amysteriousviewer3772 9 ай бұрын
This is my issue too. Her design makes it hard for me to take the game and the character seriously because there is really no good reason for her to dress this way. As you said, sexualisation is not inherently bad when there is more of a point to it or it fits in the world like with 2B but in Stellar Blade it just seems unnecessary.

About the mtx controversy: a lot of people, myself included, don't really know what is wrong with the thing that we think we should like but we don't so we generalize and latch onto understandable clearly defined points and shout about them as if they are the sole problem that impedes our enjoyment. Case in point: police system in Cyberpunk. Like, how many people really cared abot the fact that there was not a robust police response at launch? No, people were burned by the broken immersion 'cause of the bugs and false marketing and latched onto one of the things that they could explain were clearly bad. Plus, Dragons Dogma 2 has an inherently restrictive game design so any directly gameplay-affecting mtx, even absolutely stupid and unnecessary stuff, are compromising the vision and enjoyment of the game.
@omegaxtrigun
@omegaxtrigun 9 ай бұрын
I dont get how the mtx “compromises the vision”. The one port crystal doesnt because even if you buy it you still need ferry stones and regardless you will be spending most of your time traversing on foot or using ox carts. One port crystal doesnt change that. Same thing with the few wakestones. Having a few extra isnt going to meaningfully change anything unless you do something insane like intentionally get several key npcs killed at the very start of the game. Theyre completely inconsequential. Nothing about the “vision” changes. It still plays the same.

They added real life monetary value to items, so the drop and how You engage with items can be affected by that. We don't know if those values are affected design, but existence of MTX strongly suggests that. Capcom was always greedy with MTX so it's naive to believe it's not.

Enjoyed this episode overall, Rata. Regarding the little point about opinions at the start, there's always going to be unreasonable commenters who will treat anything you say as gospel. However, your own language always plays into it, too. Everything you say is an opinion, but opinions CAN be facts. I can present true, objective information as an opinion. Slipping in a little 'I think that' rather than 'This *is*' when you really want to flag something as purely your feelings? That only makes your communication clearer.

Stellar Blade has been bizarre. Your post sums it up pretty well. To me the game looks generic as hell, very similar to how studios loved to make Shinobi and God of War clones for the PS2, but everything everybody talks about is "oh yes waifu" and "this is a disrespect to women". I find it bizarre that there are only extremes regarding this game, the outrage on the character design by big media companies is ridiculous, but coomers saying this game will be GOTY is almost even more ridiculous. A character action/adventure hack n slash game has never sniffed a GOTY nomination, I'm talking about games like Devil May Cry, Metal Gear Rising, Bayonetta, Nier Automata (which takes a huge dip into the open world action rpg genre) and Astral Chain for example. I'm sure Stellar Blade of all games won't be able to break this bubble just because it has a hot chick as a protagonist..... and it's not the first time there's a hot chick as a protagonist.
