Elden Ring has the best exploration I have ever seen in a game. I scoured every inch of that map. Every item you get feels useful. Most games suffer because so much of exploration isn't rewarding due to trash repear loot. ER does not suffer from that at all.

I have 500 hours on Elden Ring, couldn't play any more than that and it's been out for 2 years. I'm already at 300 hours on DD2. Elden Ring's combat was disappointing to me. 7 games spanning over 10 years at this point and the gameplay still feels mostly the same as it always has. They only did things truly different once, with Sekiro, and that game ruined the rest for me because it's just so much better. DD2 is solid. The physics feel overdone sometimes, slopes are very aggravating in some situations, but the game is always more engaging than Elden Ring is. It's a really easy game, unless you go out of your way to make it harder for yourself by not using pawns or broken skills. The game feels completely different and even more engaging if you don't use some of those intended mechanics. That's how I'm getting my replay value out of it anyway.

I'm hoping at some point we'll get an update, an expansion, whatever, that adds something like BBI into the game. A reason to play through combat arenas again and again whilst working for some items or whatever. (Even better if they add in a 2 player optional mode)
@79bull4 ай бұрын
I 💯 agree with you. I stopped playing ER at around 600 hours. Replay becomes too predictable due to the exact same spawns over and over. DD2 I’m at 750 hours and still want to play. I think DD2 has a lot more to give if you have the imagination for it. And the fact the world is somewhat random keeps my interest. DD2 just feels alive. ER feels more scripted… and often a bit dead / empty.

DD2 is the weirdest damn game, almost entirely devoid of style or personality or character, yet somehow is really fun to play and explore. I personally prefer the gameplay of DD2. However ER is a very special game. Both are outstanding games in their own right. I find ER more ‘scripted’ as opposed to DD2’s ‘alive’ world. DD2’s world is more dynamic and often creates moments of complete chaos from nowhere. After your first play-through on ER you know where and when an enemy is going to appear. DD2 has kept my attention longer thanks to the semi-random spawns and variety of combat options. ER 600 hours vs DD2 700 and counting.

Elden Ring: 1- development started around 2016-2017 (5-6 years in the making) 2 - 11+ years of materials/backgrounds/assets/level-design/character model at their disposition 3- final vision of miyazaki, the ultimate "souls-game", miazaki "magnum opus" -> bb still better imo 4- george rr martin says a lot DD2 1- development started around 2019 (4-5 years in the making) 2- new engine, new material, everything from scratch, hell... even a completely new climbing system 3- game suffered a "mini devopment hell" because of covid and schedule throwbacks 4- budget was not nearly as any of "big-capcom titles", but was considerable larger than DD1, which is a good thing Final comparison: Long story short: DD2 feels 25% of a game while Elden Ring is a fucking 101% game. Place variety in Elden Ring is like out of question, is a sacrilegium to even suggest such comparison. Enemy and weapon variety is also a big thing in ER. Although... I feel that DD2 has a better forgery/augmnent gearing system if you look at the big picture (dragonforging your itens will also add a subtle effect onto it). Also, classes/vocations in DD2 is insanely better because it's exactly a "class system", not a placebo. -> I did play both games for over than 200 hours and I love both equally.
@SilverMont4 ай бұрын
That's a good point about ER having assets dating back to 2014 (and perhaps earlier) to draw from. So far as I'm aware, every game since Dark Souls II (so BB, Sekiro, Dark Souls III, ER etc) have all been on the same engine. Which has probably made the creation and re-use of assets pretty useful for 'em. Dragon's Dogma 2 is on the RE Engine, which whilst it isn't "new" it is for the series, and it's the first open world game on the engine too. I don't know how porting assets from MT Framework works out, but it's definitely another hurdle.

@Battleguild4 ай бұрын
@@panzer00 Yet every single spell you described isn't considered a basic spell attack or what some TTRPGs call Cantrips. A Cantrip should be an FP-free spell attack that scales directly off the Magic Scaling of a Seal/Staff. Instead, Casters are trapped with essentially 3 dead buttons unless they choose to play as a Spellblade, which defeats the purpose of playing as a Caster. Mentioning Carian Regal Scepter's Spinning Weapon Ash is even worse, since it's basically the only Ash of War available for Caster builds out of 93+ Ash of Wars.

Yeah, I think I mentioned it in the video but anything that isn't melee is largely just a way to augment your melee, in Elden Ring, as opposed to being a different playstyle. So in that sense, DD2 offers more gameplay variety between playstyles.
