When I first finished this game as a child, I actually started weeping with joy. Not just because I won after very many painful tries and searching for quarters, but because the ending made me emotional. I helped Dirk rescue his wife and bring her back home to their loving family (their very BIG loving family!). When you play videogames and help make a happy ending like that, you can't help but connect.

So Daphne's mother is so strong that Dirk has to fight desperately for his life to avoid being killed by her, and then she also just casually smacks the shit out of and intimidates into submission a giant snake that Dirk had, again, been fighting desperately for his life against. Isn't even slightly threatened by it herself. Jesus Christ, with _that_ kind of overwhelming power, why can't _she_ just go and handle saving Daphne herself rather than attacking Dirk? 🤣

You know, this game does everything a good sequel should. It improved the graphics, sped up the gameplay, and, surprising for the era, gave some much needed character development for Dirk and Daphne both. We see not only Dirk's daring-do and clumsiness, but his genuine love and sorrow for Daphne when she is captured and seemingly dies. Daphne is just as devoted to both her new husband and her many children. Heck, it's sort of telling that her mother lives with them to help raise the children. Naturally, Dirk is absolutely horrified by her, but I sense a secret respect the two have for one another, and they probably get along well enough for Daphne and the kids' sake. It's a pittance there was never a true blue sequel, and I'm wondering if that movie is ever going to come out.

Shame the Taito laserdisc games, Time Gal, and Ninja Hayate didn't get the same love to see re-release like the 3 games on this compilation did. Dragon's Lair II had far more speech in it than Dragon's Lair, there's also a ton of speech in Space Ace as well. Don Bluth did the Dragon's Lair animation, awesome as usual from the man. Time Gal and Ninja Hayate don't really have speech in them, but TG's Reika sure sounds like she's always having lots of fun in her travel through time, the character from NH also has a lot of expressionism.

Oh yes... and I love that the OP showed some deaths too. When I saw Dirk's skeleton rise up it was like an explosion in my head and I was like OMG I REMEMBER THAT SO HARD. lol!

For me there was a bug in the Egypt level right near the end, with the two bats flying, where it didn't like to register the joystick movement. Had to practically pound on the thing to get by. Still, didn't keep me from one-life-clearing the game with a crowd watching. I felt like a badass.

Probably you are right .... and what about the crowd watching ? I remember it was like a big event :)

I bet you're talking about the move where you have to get on the red bat's wing. You didn't have to pound. It just needed to be done extremely late compared to the rest of the game. Like, see the wing flash, wait for 2 seconds, then move. That was only on the arcade version. On PC CD-ROM, it was the same timing as everything else. It may have been a bug, as you said.

Thanks for the video. A couple of suggestions: - If you died because you were paying attention to what was happening in the animation, remember that you're recording this. At the end you can just go back and watch it all like a movie. - Since every death makes you start at the beginning of the scene, you could've just edited the failed attempts out. Nobody would be able to tell, it would look like a perfect run.
