I mean the way the rooms are set up are less like a defensive castle and more like a step by step trial or labyrinth. I mean I know it's a video game, and the point is she's an object of fascination, but she is definitely too well put together to be in any kind of danger. Same, some of this was absolute bullshit with the timing, even when you knew what to do. It's funny how you can tell how much of a novelty FMV games were- when Dragon's Lair first released kids were lined up, snaking through the entire arcade, then 9 years later when SEGA CD released and a bunch of companies dumped these weird experimental FMV games onto that platform and other CD based consoles, games LIKE Dragon's Lair, they were panned for being awful games, and mediocre movies. Kinda cool though how "movie games" have come around a lot since then, the first big one I remember was Metal Gear Solid, but of course there were others like it that just weren't very popular, stuff like Enemy Zero or D. And now there's games like Until Dawn and Detroit Become Human, finding a really great middle ground between a cinematically-presented story, and enjoyable gameplay where your decisions change the plot.

Daphne's parents wanted to make sure she only married the best possible nobleman in the kingdom, so they had her live in a castle full of treasure (treasure that was for her and her future husband's kingdom), then they bought a dragon from a wizzard, probably Merlin, to act as a guard dog for Daphne and the treasure. The dragon would kill all who were not strong or smart enough to slay him, but Daphne was never in any danger as the dragon's job was to protect her. Then finally the bravest and wisest of all the knights in the kingdom killed the dragon and thus passed the test set down by Daphne's parents. And the knight didn't just save Daphne, he also removed a magic sword from a large diamond, this sword was likely Excalibur. It can therfore be argued that Daphne's father is/was King Arthur and in his old age had set up the entire Dragon's Lair quest simply as a way to find the man who could remove the sword by virtue and thus inherit the kingdom and marry his daughter. This also explains why there is so much magic in the quest as King Arthur was friends with Merli likely helped build all the magic puzzles.

Either you give the right command, and proceed toward the ending, or the wrong command, and Dirk dies in one of many different ways. 1980s fantasy was inspired by Conan the Barbarian, Fafhrd & Gray Mouser, Tolkien presented in a fashion that was far more nuanced in scope compared to the Peter Jackson films, etc., where most characters were normal people, and he most powerful were simply "heroes." Did anyone ever finish this game? I remember it back in the day in the arcades. Looked cool but there was no leeway for making a mistake as I recall. Screw up, and it's game over, back to the beginning, insert another quarter. Quarters were worth something in the early 1980's LOL.

I love how dirk smiles the second he grabs the key . Hes like" oh yeah" then when he catches her he tries to be all stoic but loses it when she kisses him 😊

I used to own this game on PC. Came out on CDs. It was also one of the very first laser disc games in the arcades.

Makes you think the treasure room is all the money spent to beat the game by people 😂

I remember when “Joystik” magazine came out with the issue that guided you through beating every scene of Dragon’s Lair. As a 12 yo kid, I studied that like a prospective college student studying for the ACT/SAT.
