I love it :) how can I calculate the size of the piece of material I will end up with? Because I would like to use this technique to make a blouse and a bag panel for myself

Hi So I originally started with 16 inches across and 22 inches up. I have just measured the sample I made and it didn't reduce too much across was 15 inches. However, upwards reduced to 8 inches! I hope this helps.

Its a beautiful pattern but I'm getting confused on the second row part, there's no video instruction showing how to do it. The verbal instructions at 6:00 - 6:03 where you do the stitching on the right side and then the left side where you just stitch and pull, is it on the same thread? or do you tie a knot, cut the thread, and start again on the stitch and pull on left diagonal side? I tried it and the pattern doesn't look as neat as yours.

Hi there Raven-j8y! yes you use the same thread on the left side too. Don't cut your thread... Good luck...it's such a fantastic design. What sort of fabric are you using? satin works particularly well I think.

How much extra fabric do you need to get your target dimensions? Like if you want to end up with a 12x12” square, do you start with a 24x24” square?

Hi Ayla so it I've just checked...it originally measured as 16" x 22" and then shrank to 8" x 14" that's the best I can help you with!

Is there a smocking technique that reduces the fabric by less than half when finished?
