I recall my favorite childhood dream, in which I was standing with a friend on top of a skyscraper, and the world around us was burning. All the other buildings were burning and collapsing, but our skyscraper wasn't. Two huge black dragons were flying around us. My friend told me with great fear that we would soon burn too and that these dragons would eat us. And I calmly replied, no, they don't attack us, they protect us from chaos. Then she calmed down and I woke up.

I have a dragon friend I met in meditation, I named her Banana, because she's yellow with a lighter yellow underbelly. Red eyes and tongue, white whiskers. She represents being a friend to myself and riding/directing my power instead of my power overtaking me. I have met other dragons in meditation, different color schemes. But Banana is a good friend of mine.

I recommend the animated movie, How to Tame Your Dragon. It's really good. It's about a teenage Viking boy who tames a dragon and teaches his community not to fear them. It's symbolic of self-mastery and integration of the fearsome unconscious.

Dragons Horde Gold , that is exactly where you least want to look for treasure because the dragon can burn and eat you but you need to continually confront the dragon and get stronger in the process. Dragons are also a combination of predator species :Snakes, birds of prey, and cats. Dragons are an amalgamation of that which humans feared most. Dragons symbolically represent that which made us frozen in flight mode what the HERO must do is master the fear and FIGHT THE FEAR the dragon is secondary we must become capable of a dragons monstrousness and become what the Dragon fears which is someone who is not afraid of it and transcend integrate and become master. Glory to the heroes

Dragon is a Kundalini rising - snake with wings - kundalini awakening is known to be a 'dangerous' experience - dark night of the soul etc... Kundalini rising and realization is the mastery of the Dragon energy - symbolized by becoming a Dragon or riding it, also giving birth to Dragons - mastery of Dragon is enlightenment - tantric union with the divine. The symbology of noble virgin being taken by the Dragon symbolizes the transcendence of taboo around primal sexual energy trough unconditional love (innocence or unconditional acceptence) where love and sex/creative power become a divine aspect of psyche. Tantric union with the divine manifests as having a romance with life - being in love with life or feeling that divine or spirit is our eternal lover manifesting through various forms and states. Cheers

That dream was powerful! I see the Mother as fighting those dragons as a way to "protect" her son from transition into a new phase in life. New Phase where he is no longer under her roof and control. She cannot accept that the time has come for the dragons to initiate her son and give him wings. She wants those wings clipped and son to stay uninitiated. Whats good for the son is seen as a threat to the mother. Then potentially both brothers have this war raging within - do i ride the dragon, which is their birthright, or do we appease, and not betray the Mother. Choose wisely boys!

My 19 year old son is firmly in the grasp of the dragon of Australian culture which highly toxic, non-reflective, repressive and soulless. I'm an American that moved here when he was two and I've had an emotionally deadening experience here which has been the norm for my son who lives with his caring but emotionally detached Aussie mother. He was recently in car accident which nearly killed him, he was drunk and high on drugs and hit another car head on. He has been laid up with a broken leg and foot for two months and being attacked by his dragons of addiction, insecurity and denial. He never speaks of his feelings and is closed to all adults, myself included, and he just wants his mates who are all the same as him. He is two years into a carpentry apprenticeship but may not be able to continue. It has been the most painful experience to watch him struggle with his dragons which have largely been fed by the collective dragon of soulless Aussie culture.

Hey there Jeff ! It seems you have our Aussie dragon by the throat . I am well acquainted with its collectivist nature . Born and raised here , my encounters were early (7yr old) and am still fighting it's toxic,corrupted, soul drowning, infantile, deliberate stupidity, fifty years on... Naming names is pointless as it has so many well connected, firmly established proponents. You could say it's institutionalised stupidity. I am saddened by what your son is going through and I wish, having been there, kinda, that some good will come of this. Good luck mate.

People look for a sense of community and connection when they feel afraid and unconnected to others, many toxic groups provide this to carry out their toxic agendas. When we can accept someone completely, (usually we can't accept ourselves completely and that just causes disconnect with others) and provide deep listening to someone from that state, especially a child in our care, miraculous healing can occur.

As for dragon-taming in western tradition: look up St. Martha! Her dragon was the Tarasque that terrorized the inhabitants of the French town of Tarascon. Martha tamed the dragon and it became docile, but the inhabitants killed it anyway. Today Martha’s deed is memorized by a festival at the time of Pentecost

Why is instinct characterized as regression and chaos? Nature brings an unconscious order and intelligence. Realignment with the wild animal is the path of healing because it returns us to our primal instincts which are only "dangerous" in the wrong context.
@danielobryantАй бұрын
Primal instincts manifest in chaotic, ugly ways when natural drives are blocked and held in contempt. We need to do a better job at making space for wild energy. Calling it chaotic and dangerous displays a mistrust of nature

I used to constantly dream about snakes biting my right hand. Always my right hand and never anywhere else and the circumstance was always different. After they did I always found myself mesmerized by the bite. I could see through my hand. I could see everything that made up my hand and all the invisible energy surrounding it. These dreams culminated into a single dream about a dragon that came up out of the ocean, locked It's jaws onto my entire right arm and drug me down to the ocean floor. I fought wildly the whole way down and I can't quite remember how I managed to escape but it involved the help of a humble star fish that swam up with me to the surface. After this happened the dragon came up from beneath and put me on It's back and we flew off into the sunset. I have not dreamed about being bitten on my right hand by snakes or dragons ever since.

I had an LSD trip in which dragons/serpents attacked me and ate me, etc. At times, I was like Prince Valiant lopping off their heads. Throughout this trip, I had someone sit with me. It went on for hours. In my head, I was praying for it to stop. Eventually, I started to recognize that the dragons were god and that I was god and acceptance or I-am-ness brought about peace, and the dragons disappeared. I don't know how Jung would interpret this. It seems more Eastern than Western, to my understanding. Any thoughts?

When listening to the dream mentioned in the context of the dreamer's life: I saw the dragons as the threat of homophobia. The dreamer in his real life is being disowned by his brother whom as a child he has shared a deep bond & protective instint. The discriminatory beliefs of the brother's new faith have caused a major threat to the sense of safety the dreamer experiences in his family home. The dreamer is having to be inside the house to hide from the danger of cultural homophobia. But the dreamer later finds out that the dragons are there for his brother because the shadow being illuminated, is that the brother is becoming homophobic. The family is trying to protect his brother. For me I saw this as the tension many queer people experience of living with homophobia within their own households. If the mother is not advocating for her queer son to be accepted & respecte she is essentially enabling the bigotry of the brother/ she may fight the outside dragons but in essence becomes one of them by enabling her son's prejudice. This forces the dreamer to either supress his own natural instincts of sexual orientation (armouring & hiding) or choose to lose his brother by being himself. Maybe the people in the podcast are not close to the queer experience. There are many possibilities but I felt to share this possibility. Perhaps the strength of the dreamer is questioned as he tries to stay within in the family whilst supressing his instincts in order to belong- mother condoning homophobic behaviours of the brother, elephant in the room scenario. I have seen this in families where an elder member is very bigoted & the family members are taught to supress themselves & their power in order not to 'rock the boat' with the bigoted member. Sibling estrangement is very difficult & most humans don't want to lose family or be ostracised from the tribe - but if the tribe is not safe & the family isn't either, the individual must individuate to preserve the life-force & find new communities- a very difficult thing to do when you love your family - which it sound like this person does.

I am also reminded of the hero of the mythraic mysteries who slays the bull. The mystery religions were designed to tame this beast within and integrate it into a part of a much larger personality. Unfortunately, traditional religions are increasingly losing sight of this function or taking it to an extreme. I think Psychology, in particular, Analytical Psychology will take up this mantle. We are on the cusp of a universal, empirical mysticism, and Jung laid the groundwork.

I started watching this as I was recalling a teacher of psychoanalysis, referring to God as 'the Dragon". I was stuck with the image of the dark smoking belching fire of Mt Sinai when God Spoke to Moses..the ppl reacted in fear and trembling.. .understandably. I also had a mystical experience whilst in prayer of a glimpse of a powerful light force like 22000 volts only much more powerful... I began to have a different more awesome power relationship with the divine . I had no connection any more to that superficial car parking petioning god-of-religion or desire to play church.The world changed and I changed or I changed and the world changed...its a good thing

I appreciate this conversation, but there is a bit of confusion here. Those who are infantile and destructive (what we call toxic), that's not the dragon. They are not channeling or expressing a dragon when they carry out destructiveness of that sort; they actually aren't in contact with their dragon, bc of the underdevelopment of the self. The dragon is an element of a strong self. It is a necessary agent of protection and defense, proper aggression and power, against evil and abuse. Those who are infantile and destructive are under the influence of an evil force, which never allows them the power to develop or heal or purify themselves. They are lacking in courage, insight, moral discernment, etc, and are mere puppets of the evil forces of darkness. The self underneath that evil force is either deeply fragmented or practically non-existent. The actual dragon is deeply concerned with self values, not ego values. It isn't predatory. It's deeply self-responsible. And it comes to the foreground in response to violations made upon the self.

I wonder if the prevalence of these myths came from primitive peoples' encounters with dinosaur bones. Or if there might be a vestigial memory of ancient mammalian ancestors who were hunted down by dinosaurs, and whose panic / fear was so deeply impressed that it shows up as dragon myths (the same way that small birds call out for their parents when they see a plane, even on islands where they have no natural predator).
@MANICATTACKS25 күн бұрын
Primates today have different calls for different main predators, such as snakes, birds, and cats -- western dragons can be analysed as an amalgamation of these various predators types based on their traits! Large and dinosaur-like as an extension of predatory SNAKES (especially the long neck), LIZARDS, and CROCODILES; Wing-bearing and flying like birds of prey such as EAGLES and VULTURES (here add the scavenging); The deafening roar like LIONS and TIGERS; And just to up the danger, capable of breathing FIRE, perhaps the only "predator" here objectively more merciless than a cat with a mouse... Claws and fangs are traits shared between multiple creatures here, such as both snakes and lions having fangs, or both vultures and tigers having claws Two types of predator that both prey upon present day primates and preyed upon ancestral humans are other primates and canines such as hyenas and wolves -- perhaps an abstraction of the primate-on-primate hazard is the intelligence (up to being as intelligent as humans) that dragons often possess, and here the western dragon being a composite of the seven deadly sins may also find connection Which leaves the hyenas and wolves... the only gap i cannot fill 😂 yet, at least
