I remember my best friend and I being super excited about this game (thanks to the opening cinematic) when I rented it from Blockbuster. We get back, pop it in the Playstation, get super jazzed seeing the opening again, and then... the game actually started. We beat the story mode, but it took so unbelievably long, and I don't remember us doing more than spamming regular ki blasts to get through it. Baby was near impossible, and we never once pulled off an actual super move. It was the first DB game we ever played, and it was such a massive disappointment. It wasn't until the later Boudakai games that I felt willing to try them again thanks to this game. Thankfully Xenoverse is out now. THAT is how a DB game should play, with fast-paced action and so much variety to the characters.

After finding out that Android 18 cheated on him with Super Saiyan 100 Goku, Krillin vowed to surpass the unsurpassable. He went to go train with the Galaxy Destoyers who showed him a Super Hyperbolic Time Chamber, which allowed him to train for 1,000 years in a single day. He trained for 1 million years in the Chamber until he finally reached Super Saiyan 100. He exited the chamber and instantly killed the Galaxy Destroyers because of his sheer power. He now has the ability to summon Porunga at will and ride him across the universe. In order to surpass Goku's level of power he needed to find someone more powerful than himself. So he forced Broly and Vegeta to fuse by materializing Potara Earings with his mind. He then had them ride on his personal Porunga and challenged them to battle. After defeating them with his ultimate move, Super-Spirit Destructo-Disc-Kamehameha x1 trillion, he finally grew magnificent golden body hair and became the second-most powerful being in the universe. He proceeded to rip off Goku's hair and nose in front of Android 18 while screaming "Now you know how I felt!". This is the second-most powerful Super Saiyan form in the universe ever, the first being Legendary Super Saiyan ∞. Anyone who says otherwise is a liar. Kibito Kai himself said "Krillin is now the beginning and the end. The Alpha and the Omega."

This game was what made me join GameFAQs. It was so cryptic on how to do everything when I got it back in the day that I found myself constantly going online to figure out how to counter, how to reverse Meteor Breaks, everything. I was invested in this because back around this time there was no such thing as a good DBZ game, at least not in America. I never really noticed the huge problem with the voices because this game came out very early in the life cycle of the American series. A lot of these were my first impressions of key characters in the series, like Majin Buu(who I couldn't find info on for a long time because I kept searching for "Boo" like this game spelled it), Vegetto, Frieza, Cell. In fact I used to think some of the pre-match/post-match banter was cool. I found out this game was highly unbalanced and downright broken though. You can input reset virtually every move, with almost every character at least having one move that can stun-lock you for your whole life bar. Then one detail that completely screwed me over was that there was a Super Goku and Super Trunks, and then a Super Saiyan Goku and Super Saiyan Trunks. So for years I was perplexed in what the difference between the two versions. I also used to think that when they turned Super Saiyan, they became more evil and cocky, as both Trunks and Goku had much more harsh dialogue in their Super Saiyan forms in this game.

I also played that game back in the day. A friend had a modded psx and he got his hands on the japanese version of this game. We played in black and white and nobody we knew had a pc or internet, so we had to figure out everything on our own. I had no idea what was going on, who a lot of the characters were (I thought Gohan was Yamcha and Kid Goku was Goten, whom I'd read about in a magazine) and figuring out how the commands and countering etc goes was a pain, but I did find out all the moves, the counters and how to meteor break and reverse it. Back then I didn't know much about fighting fighting games so the inputs were very confusing and yeah... this game is broken. If you get hit once, you're most likely done for, but it was fun. I actually enjoyed it, especially that leveling mode, where the attacks you use the most get leveled up and you get more health etc. I liked this game a lot more than DBZ Ultimate Battle 22, but DBZ Legends left the best impression on me of all the psx DB games.

Yup, same for me, word for word. I even thought goku and super goku were 2 different ppl…..yea, I was that stupid as a kid. I liked doing this thing as Pan where if you do a crouching punch, a little blast comes out. If you did one of her punching combos quick enough the blast would stay there and enemies would go down quickly lol. Chaining everyones combo moves was kind of fun actually. Thats how you managed to do quick movements.

This game was my life back in 1997. Back then, only handful of people even knew about DragonBall. I used to borrow VHS copies from Anime store and watch them. This game was sold at Electronic Boutique and from the sales guy, he told me they only sold 2 copies per store. They luckily had one copy left for me but my friend had to travel to next town over to get his. This was the very first Dragonball fighting game to official localized release in the west. I've spen countless hours building my character. When it came to matches, my friend and I fought with our built up characters. Just like in the show, some of our character was able to defeat in one punch or one ki wave. It was awesome lol

There was a time when this game was one of the most sought after games for the PlayStation. Mainly due to the massive popularity of DBZ that no one decided to capitalize on outside of Japan for a fuckin decade. It was around the 00's that you would find listings for Final Bout on Ebay going up to and beyond 200 bucks for a copy. The market was there for DBZ merchandise but local game companies sat on their hands like IDOTS instead of bringing a few of the dozens and dozens of already existing DBZ games over seas. It wasn't until DBZ Budokai (and Legacy of Goku for the GBA, but never mind that game, that one was just, yegh) that we finally got fun and functional DBZ video game.

WOOOOOW nostalgia bomb out the ass here! I remember being a very young 90s kid and I had this japanese game in my house. The ONLY way I could play it was by opening my original playstation, inserting a pin on that button that makes the disc spin, and replacing the CD around with another game and back so I could play the japanese game on my US Playstation....maaaan good times I remember doing that for this game, and Dragon Ball Legends. I also remembered fondly how the US DBZ was only in Toonami, but those of us who had early AOL dial-up internet would have a fuckton of DBZ pictures printed on our binders that we took to school to show others. We had pictures of Super Saiyan 1/2/3 before they were even showing up in the toonami version and it was pretty dope making friends with other DBZ fans in school. DBZ was one of the best childhood shows in my time as a 90s kid, and without it I would have never known about the superior Dragonball.

Fun Fact: The vocalist for adult Goku and Super Saiyan 4 Goku in this game is Steven Blum. The famous voice actor for literally being in EVERYTHING. (Spike from Cowboy Bebop, Orochimaru from Naruto, Zed from League of Legends, ect. to name a few) This is one of the games that he got his start doing.

I remember importing this back in like 1998-99 and was so so stoked to finally be able to play a Dragon Ball game. I still have yet to play the Engrish version.... Anyone remember having to use the little spring to start a disc and then swap it out with the import game? =D If any of you get a chance - try playing Dragon Ball Z Legends. I really enjoyed that as a kid and I think it was a much better game. Not sure if it holds up though......

I think it has a lot of great ideas, I love how it is a mix of Goku's young adventure days in the Black Star saga and then gets more action focused in the rest of the show, and I love the character designs. Plus, since it isn't based off an anime, it cuts all the bullshit stalling filler from Z and proceeds with plot non-stop, hence why it is "only" 64 episodes as opposed to Z's 291.

InfiniteFire1988 This was released around the 97 98 time in the US in English. There are 3 DBZ games on the PSone, I have all 3 in Japanese, but to get your hands on an English GT game, is extremely rare. Back in 99, the game was worth nearly $100 already for being rare. The one in my blockbuster was stolen for that reason. Not sure how much it is worth today, but it is a collectors game for sure.

Stoke3847 There were actually two prints of this game (in America) The original in America. Which came out in 1997. That's the rare version. And then a 2004 reprint after GT got a little more exposure. And also kept the original intro from the Japanese version. Which isn't exactly rare. It'll run you 20 bucks at the most for a complete set. Luckily it's impossible to get faked by the reprint and the rare copy, considering the original had different case, manual and disc artwork.

It was super groundbreaking for me and friends because of that...as corny as that sounds today. I remember when this game came out, Toonami was barely on the Freiza saga ( maybe earlier?), and even the International Channel only played Japanese versions of the cell saga.

Heck, I think this game came out before DBZ was even dubbed in the US, and the VA's for this game only did one take for their lines. Interestingly enough, Steve Blum voiced Goku in this game. The voice director rushed him so fast to record his lines and leave that he barely even remembers doing it!

Partyprice Again, I have to disagree. Sure it wasn't as action packed, but it was an homage that harkened back to the simpler adventure days of Kid Goku in the original DragonBall. I enjoyed the Black Star Saga for its quicky sense of adventure, and I enjoyed the rest of the series for its action. To me, GT is the best of both worlds, but with the 10 episodes used on charging a Kameha from Z.

If I remember correctly...I think the character quote combination they were looking for is 1P plays as Super Little Goku, and 2P plays as Super Saiyan Goku.

Some of these voice actors have improved quite a bit since then. Goku was Steve Blum Piccolo was Dan Woren (ex. Byakuya Kuchiki) Trunks was Skip Stellrecht (ex. Cowboy Bebop - Vicious) the others I can't really speak for since I haven't watched much of their work or remember the names of the characters they played which means it's been a while since I've watched any work they've done.

I dont like anime... Well apart from Astro boy, Naruto and DBZ. Can't blame me tough, i was raised on that shit. But besides that, i don't like anything about anime. As an artist and aspiring animator i find the art, altough interesting, too simple and lacks detail. There are many other things like the freaking uncreative ideas man, they get rinsed in repeated thousands of times... Ex: Demons and angels, Demons vs Angels, people hunting demons, people are demons, a thing thats neither demon nor angel but is from an afterlife aswell... People hunting that shit. Magical fairy princeses. "Shit guys we need something new" "I know!" "Demons vs Angels... in HIGH SCHOOL" "OOOOOH" Jesus. you get my drift. lot's of the creators push their political beliefs down your throat plus sex fantasies with what looks like 9 year old girls ... I don't know man, i don't really agree or like that shit. I make it a point for fandoms not to ruin shit for me but those damn Weaboos in school dude..
