@@dandansfu no man they never have enough pertinent information for 24/7. Repeating themselves for 2-4 hours and then garbage to lower IQ or herd the sheep for another couple hours. Literally 8-10am 2-4pm and 7-9pm would likely be plenty imo, at least would force the channel to have only top priority news to air. Then, especially nowadays, you could google the rest or find literally anywhere else. Dragon Ball Z was a huge part of my childhood. I actually got grounded from watching it for a while. My parents were concerned I was trying to emulate some of the more violent aspects of the show. When I knocked down my neighbor's fence with a Kamehameha, I couldn't watch it till I did enough chores to pay them back.

That’s how I got into One Piece about ten years ago. One of the episodes in the 200s just happened to be on Toonami one night, and I thought “this character sounds like Krillin, that’s neat. Oh, this one’s Trunks, wait, this one’s Piccolo, but I thought he sounded different before…” (because I’d watched an episode of the 4kids dub when I was real small)

Geekdom acknowledged EVERY aspect of CNs past and what made them one of the best places to watch cartoons...or used to.

You're not wrong on them not acknowledging it. Sorry about that. I was wrong for that. lol Cartoon Network is still the best place to watch cartoons. I don't see why that's even a debate these days. Disney and Nick are more live action than cartoon. It's usually the people that don't watch cartoon network that talk about stuff like this.

I was fortunate enough to understand why (the episodes weren't dubbed since no one had picked up a 3rd season of DBZ) and was even more fortunate to know spanish and could catch DBZ dubbed in spanish on Telemundo which actually had the entire Z anime dubbed (they purchased the spanish dub syndication from televisa who aired it in México). Problem was... they aired DBZ at a random rate; sometimes episodes would run in a marathon format and then suddenly you had dry spells lasting up to 3 months. But hey, at least they didn't repeat the series until it was actually over.

I remember back in Jr. High, when I would break out the VHS tapes and set the timer to record an anime show that was scheduled to be on Cinemax, Showtime, or HBO in the middle of the night. This was all pre-Guide button and pre-internet (or at least before it was widely and easily available), so had to go buy the TV guide or sit and watch the one cable channel that used to just scroll through what was on all of the channels.

Eh, really by the time DBZ came around I don't think most people cared about the article more probably looked at it because of the two of them. The whole "violence in cartoons" blah blah blah had started back in the early to mid 80s culminating in shows like GI Joe and Transformers getting the little PSAs added to them at the end. After 10+ years, there wasn't really any factual support for the argument but DBZ was getting really popular so those who want to blame cartoons, games, and the like for kids and young adults misbehaving used that as an excuse for it while ignoring other more likely causes.

Then my older brother got me hooked on it in November 1998 and the rest is history. I also remember getting to the episode when Goku landed on planet Namek twice and on the second time right after they showed those movies each Friday right after and finally in the late summer early fall of 1999 funimation took over and we could continue forward. I moved from the states to Japan in 2013 and I tell my wife all the time if I had lived there when I was a kid my head would have exploded lol.

Saw bits and pieces of DBZ on tv around 1996. I remember the original Dragon Ball also coming on tv earlier in the day. I was very young so I didn't pay them much mind, It wasn't until the early 2000's that I actually sat down and watched the show. Caught it on Toonami during one of the many Saiyan Saga reruns. I fell in love with it after pretty much 1 episode. I couldn't wait to see what happened next. Luckily it aired 5 days a week during that time so the show progressed quick.

I apologize if you've gotten "corrected" on this a lot before, I know how annoying that can be and I did check the last few weeks of comments. But I don't think 1998 was the actual first time Sailor Moon aired on cable. I remember watching it as part of USA's "Action Extreme Team" block in 1997. I remember when I first saw the show- I was only 6 and I was seeing Goku versus Full Power Freeza. I was so hooked that- in the years following I would become such a big nerd of it. Problem is- being a child can also catch up with your attention span. So I grew up- not watching DB DBZ or DBGT until the late Highschool years, when I remembered Vegeta's Super Saiyan track done by Bruce Falconer. After that- it resparked my love in Dragon Ball, and is now STILL one of my alltime favorite animes and shows. All because of Toonami...

Got a tear in my eye man. My dad couldn’t get us Cable but one of my cousins made me watch DBZ in his house one day - I’ll never forget being hooked from the first second. It was during the Babidi’s spaceship episodes. Then later on when my dad was getting the cable hooked up, I was finally able to watch it at MY house after school at 4pm CT. I would run home so I could see it. I would be eating from the kitchen and watching the TV all the way in the living room. First episode I watched at my house, Chi Chi got turned into an egg 😭 watched Vegeta opening an episode as nothing but a deceased stone figure. Watched Super Saiyan 3. Watched the final episode. 13 billion years and I was lucky enough to be born on earth to see the ending of DBZ in its day - April 7th, 2003 is a holiday for me. I was one that drove 45 minutes to a little video store that would rent vhs recorded episodes that weren’t even close to be released here, and it was in Japanese with no subtitles. It didn’t matter my buddy and I just wanted to know what happened next in Dragonball. Not sure how this dude got these tapes but I didn’t care. I turned all my friends intro dbz nerds and had them all asking and waiting when the next videos were coming out. I also remember my sister found out about it and started demanding we watch flintstones instead. She'd wake up deliberately so she could force me to watch flintstones instead. Thank you for this. I have very vague memories of watching Z on toonami (I'm only 16) but I remember how it felt like each episode was a movie, the most lasting memory I have of toonami is Goku flying into Piccolo Jr. to win the budokai. My introduction to being a hardcore fan was watching nicktoon's kai and then watching the uncut blu rays but I still look back and think I had the privilege of watching the greatest shonen manga/anime of all time in it's fullest edition.
