Dragonflight Ret Paladin - HUGE Rework INCOMING SOON PVP PVE INSANE

Blizzard just made a post about Ret Paladins in Dragonflight and a HUGE rework coming to ALL aspects of the spec including damage, mobility, survivability, defenses, healing, and MORE. Entire talent rework possible??

Yep it should have happened in beta, we all saw it, but they just didn’t have the time or desire to make big changes. Ret was a very low effort design.

Mained ret since wrath. When legion came out there were major issues that got masked behind borrowed power. BfA and SL continued the trend of further taking more away. I'm cautiously hopeful.

They said an entire talent overhaul from the ground up which is insanely surprising imo. I’m hopeful too - leveling my Paladin now!

They don't say mobility because we are bound by the chair. By saying maneuverability, they are talking about new ways for us to move around in our wheelchairs.

I'm excited. I see bubble fade then I die from a sub rogue in 1.5 seconds through shield of vengeance or 1vs1 against a shadow priest and they have all the control, lots of cc, laugh off our damage when we are beating on them, then kill us during the second fear. Something really does need to happen if anyone should be expected to play the class with the worst mobility, least cc, no mortal strike, can't mind control, knockback, or even heal as a hybrid. 7 specs I think can remove our best defenses so we don't have defensives in reality, and when we use one we can't use many others due to forbearance or the other defensives are inappropriate for the situation. Our damage feels good right now against some specs but useless against others during their defensives. That last part would be fine, but they can remove ours, and we can not remove theirs. So we are designed with every disadvantage there can be other than doing no damage. It's all gonna come down to the tuning If this design change is a net gain or loss. If we look at our talent tree and we see 10 talent points are spent that have interactions that buff judgment, and 5 more with some overlap that buff final verdict, A lot of these talents can be combined freeing up space for actual non dispelable defensives and mobility that will be useful in reality and not just in theory. I don't expect teleportation like rogues and mages or 2 heroic leaps and a charge like Warriors, but we need something. I don't expect to receive a immunity to interruption like a few specs have but it sure would be nice, Right now even our battle rez is classified as holy, so if you dare to press it in PVP and get kicked it's a death sentence just like our only heal that doesnt cost holy power. Lay on hands being affected by dampening means use it in the first min in arena or it does nothing. I feel as though allowing most specs in the game to have a couple of ways to avoid Execution Sentence damage was a mistake. In PVP, it's widely considered useless above 1k rating, so even though we're known to have good bursts, we don't have the best burst we could have.

They did indeed say the things. We'll see what actually comes out of that, though. That snide line about "not like rogues" makes me feel like the one guy who torpedos the spec design is still there - and if I had to guess it is someone who worked on class balancing during WOTLK and had to nerf Ret back then, to make sure they didn't outshine death knights. Guess who that was? The current game director, of course.

Hope there will be some little change like blessing of sanct can be use while cc like the old freedom but maybe remove the fear cleans make the speed boost on our judgement give us a real def cd + our buble and shield of vengeance If we have something like that even if we lose some burst it's gonna be huuuuuuuuuge for paly

Yes, the blessing of sanctuary not being able to be used while stunned feels like an oversight or that they just don't like the spec. We should have had a blessing of spellwarding since 2004. 19 years late on that one and counting. The 15th or so buffs to consecration while it is still ineffective seems like they're just wasting our time. Needing to hit both, Blessing of freedom, and Divine Steed, in order to move quickly, or waiting for consecration to be available again in it's buffed form to clear a snare if you spend points on that and divine steed is to many steps and globals to be able to walk. Hammer of Justice being on the GCD when we already have long GCDs as it is while it is not beneficial enough to stack haste as Ret. I could go on. They have their work cut out for them to fix this.

But Blizzard are what they are they will add like bad designe choices talents and add maybe some duration on the steed and just buff our heals to be less squishy I dont know they have wotlk classic paladin are realy fun to play they just have to add a little bit of mobility and wé have a good classe adjust damage and it won't be OMEGA OP..... Did I just describe the mop ret ? I think yes 😂

My guess is we get better sustained damage from blade and cs and judge and the finishers do something different besides damage. Like maybe JV is baseline and you can talent to make it do something else.

stopped playing dragon flight cause i main a ret paladin. it's just so frustrating to feel like you have to perform 1000x better than people just to stay alive and somewhere on the dps meter lol
