I much prefer using Wake of Ashes in its baseline form as it generates 5 HP right away. Ive become so used to hitting that button to start off my rotation that to switch it for PoR feels off since it changes it to a HP spender rather than generator, and yes the dmg is lower, but it's also only a 15 sec CD vs 45 secs so overall your dps will be higher. If you can manage to proc the CD reset on it often enough through the talent that modifies Art of War to affect Wake of Ashes vs Blade of Justice, you can achieve a comparable dps throughput without using PoR, but this would only be used in situations where AoE is the focus such as M+ content, or during raids when clearing trash before a boss, or on boss fights that summons adds. I would prefer that PoR doesnt become the meta where I feel pidgeon-holed into taking it to be viable in M+ and raids. Right now to me it just doesnt feel powerful or rewarding enough to justify using it over WoA

With the restoration of ashes to dust to 35%, I think wake is probably still better. It kind of depends though - wake hits very hard and with the set bonus buffing it I can’t imagine RD is better.

@@Varaben Totally agree. I didnt even think about taking the tier set bonuses into account, so thats a good point, although it will be awhile before we get into end-game territory so that doesnt really apply when doing 5 mans during the leveling phase. I really like the new addition to the talent UI that lets you create and import/export/share different builds though. Being able to swap from single target focused talents to AoE talents on the fly will be HUGE. In the last 3 expansions Ive noticed that my dps on my pally is always higher when doing AoE content vs single target, and thats even after taking ST oriented talents for specific fights that dont have adds. Heres to hoping that DF and future expansions will be able to rectify that problem 😆

Wake of ashes hits for far larger amounts with wings vs without, in pvp its a bit difficult to ensure wake actually hits the target unless they sit the stun or slow you send before wake. Feels real good when you get to finish a burst rotation without having your burst window wasted in any of a dozen ways.

Haven't played ret paladin in around 2 expansions, how smooth is the gameplay? would you recommend for DF?

Yes I think it’s in a good spot. It feels great in s4 shadowlands and luckily all of that is carried through into DF. The tree needs a lot of work but as-is it’s still looks good. I wish they’d make several big changes (just posted a video about it).

I assume that also, but I did not test it to be sure. If it isn’t affected by DP that’s either a bug or a black eye on the ability. Great question!

@@Varaben I do hope it works :) I can see some synergy there. POR has a little less damage than WoA, atleast reading tool tip, so the procs bonus damage could Eliviate that! I am suprised with the amount of HP generation we have, so its interesting having a new spender :)

@@grizzled952 I think the Wake procs feel too good to give up. Because wake’s effective CD is a lot lower than 45s when you take ashes to dust. The tree is just really messy right now, like why does ashes to dust have negative synergy with expurgation? I have another build I want to try if I ever get access to beta with FV, FR and DT that I think is gonna be super strong in single target. But my guess/hope is the tree gets a shakeup soon.

i think POR is stronger for AoE dmg. Because the damage decreases after 5 Adds while WoA decreases from a 2nd target on. Also you can use POR in every pull and maybe a 2nd use in every pull in fortified weeks. So i think WoA is more for ST and POR for AoE

Yeah I wonder how the damage is reduced after 5, does that mean the max total damage is x times 5? Because wake at least used to do this weird calculation like square root something something. Hopefully I get a chance to practice it at 70.

i think POR or RD how it‘s called now will deal the same % less damage after 5 targets like DS. Someone in the ret discord mentioned that hitting RD on 5 targets deals more damage than hitting 5 targets with WoA but this is a few weeks ago
