i like to joke that power metal is basically pop punk for geeky metalheads but i'm also pretty sincere in that comparison. there are more similarities between pop punk and power metal than with other types of metal. when i first heard the rhythm guitars on the choruses of Through The Fire And Flames, i thought it sounded more like pop punk than metal (keep in mind at that point, i listened pretty much only to punk and ska, i'd never even heard the term power metal until like 2008 and most of the modern metal at the time i heard all had heavily distorted guitars and harsh vocals).
