Gotta be honest, it took me a bit to get used to DF's debut album--see, I first heard Inhuman Rampage, when they'd basically finalized their distinct musical style (at least for when ZP was still in the band). At that point they pretty much had their style nailed--their signature "extreme" tempo, squealing Nintendo-metal instrumentals, melodics, technique, etc. That was my first impression of DF and it's what stuck with me. But Valley of the Damned sounds like they weren't _quite_ set in their style, like they were still trying to figure some things out. This gives rise to an experimental sound that just isn't in the rest of their discography--it's unique and I have to say I really appreciate it now. Especially since I'm self-taught artist, writer, and photographer myself haha. Us creatives know how this goes~
