The studio version is recorded in parts under the metronome. And then they take them to the studio for days, drinking coffee. Live performance is a lot harder. This requires in addition to the skill of playing guitar and absolute hearing. Absolute hearing is found in 0.01% of the population of our planet. And 5% of all those who professionally play music.

I am quite sure he is talking about absolute pitch, and no. Firstly, thedooo only has relative pitch, and playing live isn't about hearing that much but how accurate your timing is. And for the question about what is absolute hearing; I am quite sure he meant perfect pitch. It is an innate ability to recognise notes without a reference point, the ability to actually reproduce all of it back is still tied with music ability overall, but for example you give a flat B sound with any instrument and they will call it a flat B on the point. It is a relatively rare ability, comes about 1 in a 10.000 people. Relative pitch is like an acquired taste, if one plays and listens to songs long enough, even without the innate ability he could still tell apart major 6 and major 7 for example, but can't tell for sure which major 7 it is, yet since he could recognise pitches on the fly, he could still improvise and reproduce with a given reference tone.
