As for the food boats, Mysaria had earlier said that since the blacks have control of the gullet they can easily sneak fishing boats and other ships in and out, this is how Rhaenyra and Daemon both snuck into the city in episodes 2 and 3. So I'd assume they had larger ships sail near kingslanding, drop off the small boats full of food, and let them drift to shore. And since they waited for a foggy/cloudy night they were able to sneak them in relatively easy. Makes more sense to me than the boats just floated across the bay to the city

But with all the talent working on the project, I have every confidence that Ryan Condal and his team will deliver something great in the long run.

My biggest initial gripe isn't even pacing, it's that so many things are "one-note." Most all characters are pretty somber and serious. It makes me forget if there has ever been laughter/wit/humor/sass in this world. The color grading is SO grey and is either too dark or too over-exposed depending on the episode/scene. And....THE AUDIO IS SO FLAT. Seriously...give it a listen. There was a scene in episode 6 where a council member was passing Alicent in the foreground, and when Aemond said something (from the other end of the table in the back of the large echo-ey room) I thought it was the council member in the foreground who said it. Not only do most characters sound like they are whisper-grumbling, it sounds as though vocals were recorded in post. The effect gives "foreign film dub-over" or "audiobook." There is simply no ambience/atmosphere, except for what is added by way of non-vocal sound effects.

@bubumaczko4 ай бұрын
My first reaction was Rhaenyra didn't learn anything from the affair with Sir Whatshisface... At this moment Mysaria depends on her but they are in a war and she can't afford losing her as an adviser. She just couldn't resist making the same mistake with banging an employee: the exact situation that this war is based on... I think if Mysaria would've rejected her that would made the situation awkward. Same if she kisses her back. I think Mysaria is very smart and calculated but at this point Rhaenyra has more power and she should have a clear head, a little more self-control and focus on the war... She should be much more careful. Alienate her allies is just the most foolish thing she can do.
@ImpressionBlend4 ай бұрын
This is something I've been thinking about too. Do we need to have a conversation about how Rhaenyra, apparently, has to get romantically entangled with her closest employees? Because that's 2 now.
@bubumaczko4 ай бұрын
@@ImpressionBlend That's three, actually. 1. Sir Whatshisface 2. Sir Strong (the father of her children and also member of the City Watch of King's Landing) 3. Mysaria If you want to talk about it, I'm always curious about your opinion :) I think this is a very dark side of her and she didn't seem to care how much harm she inflicts on others with this reckless behavior.
I haven't liked the last two episodes and this season is really starting to lose me!!! The First Season easily destroys the second...🤷🏾♂️

Daemon is a morally compromised character; he’s interesting because we don’t know if he’ll give into the temptation of the crown, or how far he’ll go to get it. Here’s my prediction for the end of S2, and the beginnings of S3: Daemon will return, fresh from his therapy session at Harrelhal, fully committed to the queen. However, Rhaenyra will build political and relationship independence in the form of dragon riders and Mysaria. Daemon, feeling rebuffed, will eventually relapse and fail to remain dedicated.

Just remember that in Fire & Blood, the Dance of the Dragons is told through various narrators, including historians and maesters, each offering their own perspective on this tumultuous civil war within the Targaryen family. The narrative incorporates accounts, letters, and differing opinions about key figures like Princess Rhaenyra and Prince Aegon II, showcasing the motivations and betrayals that fueled the conflict. This multifaceted storytelling highlights the unreliable nature of history, as biases can shape how events are recounted, adding depth and intrigue to the narrative.

Enjoyed your review. I have a hard time believing that Larys is now a good person after he barbecued his father and brother alive, making himself the heir/controller of his family's estate (and gold). The compassion scene? I think it was feigned. Larys does what he thinks will eventually benefit himself. I do hope Aegon heals enough to regain control. It will be hard to give his brother the boot, but he will probably have his mother's support and her faction after Aemond took away her voice from the governing body.
@ImpressionBlend4 ай бұрын
Oh no, in no way am I implying he's a good person. But just like the best of GRRM's characters, he is more than one thing: he can be a manipulative rat, who was also shaped by the way his father and the rest of the world treated him, and who now feels a kinship with Aegon. This doesn't make him a good person, and it doesn't mean he isn't aware of his own interests, but I do believe in that particular scene he is sincere. I do find it interesting that, from what we've seen, Aegon is the only person who promoted him and saw value in his talents while the rest of the people at cord treat him with disdain.

And now Rhaenyra is turning the same way The are gonna be two halves of thee same at this point. Their relationship is an aberration. the show feels like it’s dragging its feet because the characters are dragging their feet. season 2 is about the build up to war, and season 3 is where the actual fighting kicks off. these characters are getting the much needed character development that we did not get in season 1 because of the insanely fast speed at which they were doing their storytelling. of course it felt a lot more like “a lot happened” because it did; every episode had a significant time jump. while i understand that many casual fans do not have that kind of patience and nor do i expect them to as they are probably only here for the dragons. however - the writing is absolutely not as terrible or even bad as people seem to make it out to be. it is not perfect, some scenes feel awkward, some parallels can be very heavy handed, side characters who will become main characters down the line have not had enough development, sometimes scenes feel abruptly cut (i attribute that to hbo and their choice to cut the season to 8 episodes). this season was also filmed during a writers strike, where writers were not allowed to be on set which probably affected their ability to tweak things/rewrite scenes etc). this season has given us some of the best episodes in the entire series so far and even the entire franchise. to see people calling it got8 is honestly so outrageous.

Wrong regarding the lack of action. Game of Thrones had mutiple families, muliple primary, strong characters that had their own particular direction in a range of settings. These were supported by other interesting secondry characters in there own right. The charcters talking in rooms wasn't the focus of every episode as in this series. Dialogue was balanced with action that wasn’t just based upon dragon CGI. The two setting focus of House of the Dragon combined with the morally neutral lead characters is problematic regarding maintaining viewing interest. The tone of the show is monotonously bland. The main female characters are subservient to the male influences and don't appear strong in the way those in GOT did. The primary male characters are too similar and don't drive the story. There isn't someone to elicit strong emotions whether supporting or disliking. GoT is a series that can be watched muliple times and is worth rewatching. House of Dragons is worth watching if you are a GoT fan. But beyond this it doesn't continue the legacy of G of T in a meaningful way and once watched if completely forgettable. The rare action in the form of dragons flying isn't worth the effort.
@ImpressionBlend4 ай бұрын
I guess this depends on what you mean by action? I was talking about actual fighting, physical action, which "Game of Thrones" had very little of. If we're counting battles - the first 4 seasons had what? 2 big on-screen battles and a few raids? And yet they are widely regarded as masterpiece television. I absolutely agree about characters. Alicent, for example, should be a Cersei type character like she is in the book, but they're so scared to make her unlikeable. They forget that even though everyone hated Cersei people thought she was complex and well-written (until the final two seasons, where she just stands by the window and drinks wine). She was a great villain. The families staying strong and the conflict pulling them apart made for amazing drama and character depth. Taking agency away from characters, avoiding dramatic moments for fear of making certain characters "unlikable" definitely hurts HotD.
