I listened to this on Spotify but I needed to come to KZbin to say two very important things: 1) that dragon impression was the most accurate impression of a Clicker from the Last of Us I have EVER heard. 2) Getting serious, I recently started working as a brain injury specialist. I spend 8 hour shifts providing life skill support and therapeutic help to people who have traumatic brain injuries. During my commute to and from work, listening to this podcast gives me so much joy and much needed decompression. The carefree love and giddiness that Brittany creates is unmatched and helps me feel more ready to help others. Thank you Brittany for the joyous, witty content you create.

I wrote a dissertation on the medieval imagination for my archeology final and it could really explain the concept of dragons if we think it through the theory and the perspective of medieval thought. Usually, we tend to think that medieval statements are fiction or that they hold no real proof because it sounds outlandish, and we tended to hold our ways of thinking at a higher standard due to more recent scientific advancements, but in doing so we tend to forget that imagination is also laced within truth or fact. For example, where a medieval person would see a giant kraken, we would see a giant squid, but it doesn’t hide the fact that there’s a squid and that it is giant; we just use different terms to convey it due to our placement in time. So in regards to dragons, my favorite theory is that in the evolution of humans, we had unearthed a dinosaur skeleton once or twice (either expanding in settlements or looking for resources in the earth) and because we didn’t know what it was, we created the imagination of the dragon; which is why it’s so similar in bodily displays but different with their demeanor in cultural stories; archeological evidence shows what they look like, but not how they would act, that is up to the imagination. Idk it’s just a theory and I wanted to nerd out a bit on it because I feel like medieval thought/imagination is thrown to the side as fantastical instead of taken seriously 😭

I love Alicent too. She isn't faultless like innocent Helaena but she is trapped by the circumstances of her gender in a society that doesn't value women and I think a lot of us relate to that sometimes. The biggest irony with her current situation to me is that if she had supported the true heir Rhaenyra, she most likely would have been a valued member of Rhaenyra's council because of her experience. Alicent supported the patriarchy to her detriment.

ALSO! As a biology/paleontology nerd, look up the dinosaur `Yi Qi`, if you haven't seen it yet. If that's not enough, pterosaurs (which aren't dinosaurs btw!) were pretty much real life wyverns. A lot of them are even named after dragons, like cryodrakon, aerodraco... Oh, and also targaryendraco. Yes, it's real, paleontologists are huge dorks. Adding to the fire breathing conversation; Far as I know, early/original dragons (in the west) weren't known for breathing fire. `Dragon` was just an umbrella term for huge serpents. The fire breathing was later added in conjunction with descriptions and depictions of dragons as symbols and embodiments of evil, alluding to hellfire and their connection with the devil.

Lol have you ever heard the theory that T-rex's were actually dragons and they were put together wrong? The theory goes that if they are considered avian then the bones of the wings would have deteriorated since they are hollow or were made up of mostly muscle, and what you see as the tiny little arms on the T-rex body were actually similar to the claws on bats wings. I can't remember where I heard this theory but I thought it fit well with this episode XD

I'm almost finished reading Fire and Blood (the Targaryen history book that House of the Dragon was based off of), and it's super refreshing to hear just how true to the story they've stayed. It's making me want to watch the show once I finish!

47:24 the logic here I learned when I was 10 in Narnia Focus on the Family Radio Theatre which is actually really slay book basically the snake lady laughs at someone mentioning a lion saying that a lion doesn't exist but it's just a big cat. Someone was trying to explain the son to her as well and she tried to gaslight them saying the sun doesn't exist. It's just a big light lantern or fire thing you know what I mean so that logic makes sense to me but it is funny to imagine that our world is being gaslight by someone to not believe in dragons I don't think that's the case but that would be funny

Hey weird fact! I’m and ultrasound technologist and our transducers (the probe we scan patients with) is made up of piezoelectric crystals!! They also vibrate at different frequencies of Hertz to produce sound waves so we can image different organs. But we can never actually feel/hear the vibrations

You were so confident saying Dothraki in the beginning that I started to gaslight myself. Like “nooo I know you think it’s high valerian but Brittany knows her shit. Your brain must not be working”
