You're correct, Jack, use companieshouse for official figures. Turnover was 16.27 million, with a pre-tax loss of 3.592 million. Not quite sure where Ahmed got his figures from.......

Almost certainly. This is the problem in the UK investors are way to conservative and way to into the numbers Duncan was looking for a exit at that stage when they were still only in the UK and expanding and had the whole world to expand into on top of that, Duncan was looking at millions, I was thinking at the time the business could be worth billions with enough funding. An I was correct but lack the 150,000 ground to get involve in it.

@Hamilton Moses You clearly do no research. Hungry House was acquired by Delivery Hero in February 2013 for an undisclosed sum. Delivery Hero then sold it, about 2 years ago, to Just Eat for 240 million pounds, so it wasn't sold by the original founders (although they clearly made a tidy bundle!).

£1m investment at the time for say 10% ... The investor would have made £20m before legal costs and tax deductions. So say £15m pure profit. HungryHouse was acquired for £200m by JustEat. Ouch Duncan !!

An substantially more if say Jones took on the investment, his team experience, knowledge and connections might have meant they could have automated the platform in 3 months instead of 12 months, allowing them to accelerate the roll out across the UK faster, thus gain a larger share of the market. May be they be sitting on a valuation of 4.5 billion instead of Just Eat and Jones could well be a billionaire by now. Instead of merely being worth 500 million.

Talk about the one that got away. I think to be fair these guys themselves didn't realise the potential of their own business they had ventured on so couldn't ell the dream and very possible success in the future. Still Duncan will be absolutely kicking himself till this day. Would have loved to see the look on his face when he heard what they sold the company for. they should have asked for 10% right at the beginning each and assessed the market themselves.

The article you referenced is for Delivery Hero which is the parent company who operate in 34 countries. Multi Billion, sure but they are multi national. Hungry House was purchased by them in Feb 2013 startups.co.uk/dragons-den-success-stories-hungry-house/ In this video they state Just Eat takes 10% of the order total. www.standard.co.uk/business/business-news/takeaway-site-hungryhouse-turns-a-profit-as-mobile-orders-soar-8841026.html shows that Hungry House were doing £300,000 worth of orders per day in Sep 2013. It's possible that at the end of 2012 Hungry House could have had around £200,000 of orders per day at £20,000 in revenue per day. £20,000 x 365 = £7,300,000 revenue for that year potentially. The purchase figure was undisclosed but it seems like the lads did it :)

James there is a session held after the deal is agreed upon on the show where the investors and the inventors meet to tie up loose ends on the deal this is called "Due Diligence" if at that time the parties involved do not agree on specifics and or any other matter the deal can be nixed. As was in the case with "hungryhouse".

these people probably haven't ordered a takeaway in decades if ever and that why they couldn't understand just how valuable hungry house was and the potential for it to grow into a huge, international business. I said in 2007 that if I had 150,000 I would have demanded 1 % equity and still secretly thought I got away with bloody murder on the deal!

You view the menu on the hungryhouse website you idiot, then you pay by card to the delivery driver. I use Hungryhouse and Just Eat as a directory and then order direct with the restaurant, the restaurant prefers it as its cheaper for them and I prefer it as its cheaper for me and I have direct contact with the restaurant which improves reliability

Starting out in a piss poor family, selling all your possessions in order to start you own business and become a self made millionaire is not luck! Its hard graft, perseverance and calculated risk. @RickHignett aim for the moon, fall amongst the stars and then you hit right back down to earth i say. If they keep reinvesting profits into the business then its not an investment opportunity. Venture Capitalists are only interested in their Return on Investment. If this company wants £1 million which is high risk and little return then its crazy, no smart investor would touch their company investors take risks but arent gamblers. The company also got competition with Just-eat.co.uk.
