It's actually a pretty nice strategy. There is not a word on the Tesla web site about this upgrade, because they obviously want you to consider the M3P. But after you purchased the M3LR, you showed that you were not willing to shell out $8k extra for the entire performance package, so how about going halfway to the M3P in pure acceleration for $2k? Some of those (us) that were not willing to pay the extra $8k for the M3P might very well pay $2k for the Acceleration Boost upgrade, and Tesla gets some extra cash.

I bought a P85 MS in 2014 and soon after came the duel motor, so you feel a bit like you should have waited but then Tesal upgraded the P85 and you soon forget anyway and think hell they are all brilliant. I think Tesla listen to owners and if there is an undercurrent of dissatisfaction or need they respond with upgrades or offers. Why wouldn't they? Everyone wins. And to my mind they also update the charging algorithms tweaking the performance / charging characteristics of the battery. Tesla have the data and the technology to continuously improve the ownership experience even years after purchase, no wonder we love these cars every time we drive them, even 5 years later.

I have an old Passport G-Timer unit which is accelerometer based. I hit 0-60 mph in 3.50 sec on back to back runs in 32 degree weather. Very happy with the Acceleration Boost upgrade. Also, my pervious run few months in the summer with free 5% increase run on the same road came out to 3.82 sec., that was probably in 80 degree weather. So, I am thinking my car may be slightly quicker once the temps are back over 70+ degrees. DT, what was the temperate on the day you ran these cars?

I just wanted to know if the handling of the car is any different between the performance and LR. I'm stuck between the 2. After testing the LR mode I found the Performance to be way better in acceleration. But Tesla dealer didn't have LR Boost option to test. If the LR Boost is going to feel and handle like the performance then I don't want to waste money on Performance.

The boost doesn't affect the handling
@Mudassar_Khan Жыл бұрын
@@freddybell8328 yea but I wanted to see if there would be any difference in handling between the LR and Performance (regardless of boost or not) apparently Performance has lowered suspension which should improve handling. I have gone against a performance model tesla at the track, and it was steadily gaining speed against me. However after I switched to Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres, we were almost identical. Performance model still finished first but overall I'm very happy with the LR with boost.

DragTimes Good point, forgot about the soc factor... Thank you for clarifying; however, it looked like the performance was still pulling slightly more up top regardless of the similar trap speeds. How much would it cost in hardware, software, and time to make an ICE car improve its 0-60 from 4.4s to less than 3.9s? I doubt you're talking a simple stage 1 remap at those power levels. All that testing and tuning and dymo runs... makes a $2k software update a lot less 'laughable'...

The performance does have 20" rims and the DM has 19"? What would happen if both cars had the same size rims. 1" could make a difference. Swap the rims and do the race again?
@apricity694 жыл бұрын
dumas1012 If it only was that easy. Performance models have a weird stepped hub. What I would like to see is large barrel aftermarket 18”s that fit on M3P w/ big brakes ***with smaller diameter tires***. I know some of these lighter aftermarket wheels are already available, but I’m curious about the gearing advantage. Does it make sense to give up some of your 162mph top speed to get slightly lower gearing? Or is the car already traction limited from 0-40 mph so a taller tire makes more sense for a higher 1/4 mile trap speed? The first thing Model Y owners will probably try is bolting on smaller diameter Model 3 wheels & tires.

It would be better to have the Long Range because most people are driving the vehicle 95% of the time, and 5% is performance. even the long range has trackable capabilities; with a very good driver at the wheel it can be amazingly fast. It looks like difference between the original Roadster normal 3.9 versus Sport 3.7 - it's all in the takeoff. The power is the same but the point at which full power begins is a lot lower at takeoff with the original Roadster Sport - the sport firmware anticipated wider tires. In this case it looks like the performance firmware launches more quickly as the suspension and tires are expected to be there to handle it.

Why? The Performance version is still faster, still has more power, and still has track mode. Nobody pays for a performance tesla because it is worth the money for the upgrade, they do it because they want it, and can afford it. The most practical Tesla's are the basic long range ones, and they are plenty fast, and keep up just fine on the top end as well, it is just that you don't get quite the same launch from a stop without AWD, or the larger output inverters on the performance versions.
