Oh man, this brings back memories. I remember seeing this game in a bargain bin as a kid, and I asked my mom to buy it for me because the cover art looked so cool. I put so many hours into this game and had a lot of really great times. The end game levels and enemies were genuinely terrifying to me back then lol. It would be amazing to get an HD remaster of this gem.

Yep, I bought it w/o renting it first. That risk paid dividends didn't it?? I remember switching between this game, GTA3 and Tony Hawk 2 and that's ALL I played for like a year. Oh, Devil May Cry was in that rotation as well 🎉🎉

It's got to be one of the biggest shames ever that this game didn't get the recognition that it deserved, it really is amazing for the time it came out. I also still have my PS2 copy and I remember 20 years ago playing this and the struggle it was in some areas, but how satisfying it was to finally complete it. It definitely kickstarted my early interest in fantasy and RPG and I will be forever grateful for it. Drakan may be forgotten by some, but not by me ❤️

I must admit, I fondly remember fighting the skeletons in the dark, armed only with a torch. It was very creepy.

Wow, I've heard about this game being good sooo many times, but having seen it for myself now, I'm even more impressed by how much of a hidden gem it is, like, all the mechanics seem to be satisfyingly fleshed out and overall in such harmony, that many modern RPGs pale in comparison with their struggle to achieve something like this :D

Dude those games are special. Both of them are so good. I already have the next old obscure thing I want to cover, will probably be in the next few videos. You'll get a kick out of it, it involves mechs and like 4 people know about it. It's great.

Great review and call-backs to that fantastic generation of games from 1998-2004. Metroid Prime, System Shock 2, Morrowind, Star wars KOTOR, Heretic II, King’s Field IV The Ancient City, Outcast, Dark Cloud, Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Drakan The Ancient Gate, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time...dang. So many good games!

add Severance:Blade of Darkness to the list, which if you didn't get to play somehow actually got a remaster for the switch (the pc version is still playable with disc and patches or emulator)

Good to see the giant chicken make a cameo lol. Definitely a great game, always a blast to replay! I'm hoping Order of the Flame becomes available on GOG someday since I've never played it.

I was a big fan of the first pc only game and was super bitter when the sequel was announced as a ps2 exclusive. I believe Sony still has the rights. I did play it and loved it but still wish it had a native pc version

I loved Drakan: Order of the Flame. Such an interesting and original idea, I don't think any game after that managed to successfully connect two aspects of a gameplay: flying and fighting as a dragon and exploring other areas on foot with a sword, solving some puzzles from time to time. The atmosphere of the world was also something that caught my interest back them even if the universe/backstory was not that well developed. I was very disappointed that The Ancients' Gates was a PS2 exclusive and never played the sequel.

I've never played this game before. However, recently tried it and couldn't let go until the final boss. Although final battle was a little dissapointing, overall it was great experience and game has really aged well. Thank you for the hint! P.S. For those who about to try it - put points in magic rather than a bow.

Man. I remember there being one area you can only access with arokh. It was a castle that had skeleton dragons coming at you. I always died there and when I finally did beat those dragons I felt great doing so. Could never figure out how to open that castle though. I also remember going to one of the optional areas and leaving arokh there only to find out I can't go back to that area lol.

This was basically THE game that sparked my 'console exclusive boycot' as I was a huge fan of the first game on PC, the fact that this was on console just felt like betray.

If you enjoyed this you can try playing Decay of Logos. It has very similar themes. You're a female protagonist with an animal familiar getting many different weapons all with durability. You learn very little magic but the first Drakan you didn't learn magic you just used magic items. Drakan's story was more 90s action movie like, Decay of Logos took on a more mysterious Dark Souls piece by piece story.

My favorite PS2 game ever (even above FF7, which is my second-favorite), and one of my favorite games of any system. I felt that it was a perfect mix of RPG, Tomb-Raider-style action and exploration, and dragon flight simulator. (I got really good at the magic system, which is OP but fun; getting good at magic in this game makes it a cakewalk: Just spam the slow-time and fear spells, then backstab everyone.) I also enjoyed the original game on PC, though this sequel improved upon the original formula in every way in my opinion.

BTW, I'm a real nerd with this game and would like to point out that though the game offers only three skill trees (Melee, Missile, and Magic), the Magic path can be split into attack spells vs. support spells, so one can think of it as four specialization paths. (I found the support spells to be superior to the attack spells.) If you max your support spells, you can use them to hobble your enemies -- even bosses -- and go around backstabbing them with the four-element swords and the final sword of the game -- all which require only Level 1 skill in Melee.

I remember the first time I got to the snow area, my dragon friend broke and despawned - permanently. I thought it was just a no dragon zone, so I played for another hour or two before I got truly stuck. Had to start over!

This game has many unfinished puzzles Easter eggs, and secrets, but there’s a few you can access. There’s even a glitch that lets you restart the game with everything you found, but after replaying the shadowmire, aroke become immobile, meaning your stuck in level 1 forever, so if you can figure out how to do this, NEVER replay shadowmire! Hint- File saved.

The 2000s 3D artstyle is a bit forgotten. 2D games still going on with indie developers but you just don't see this in between "missing link" graphics style in games anymore. Wouldn't mind if someone deliberately took the blocky 3D "mesh/texture" look into a new game. Nowadays we got realistic 3D graphics that people play feeling that it's granted or some cell shaded one.

More games should have girls as their playable character. I'm starting to think that women had it better the whole time, looking at the back side of men. Look at how much time we've wasted, we should get on this immediately!

I just watched a review before this by the void where he mentions that you can do the up down jump input for a forward flip and here you mention the proper way to cast magic which he did not understand. this game has a lot it doesn't properly tell you because this is from the days of having a manual included that you actually needed to read. anyone trying it these days, please look up the full extent of the controls
