Over the years I've learned to not judge music on the first listen because most times songs click more in multiple times through. I'm a huge Drake fan but first listen was rough for me, 2 and 3 were better and the further i went it grew on me as i knew it would. Drake albums have been like that since Views honestly. I get this. I also think it's hard because of how close the release of Donda was to it. It's kind of hard not to compare. And I definitely agree with the sentiment that his albums tend to need multiple listens. I remember feeling this way a lot when it came to IYRTITL. My buddy really liked it but it took me a couple listens to enjoy it. However, even to this day I don't quite hold it in such high regard as others do. That being said, though, the Mallory Bros. seemed to enjoy it on their first listen. Maybe it's because they review music for an audience so their viewpoint is to try to be more objective than we will be.
