I totally feel you. I do. I think it's a great speech. But I was talking about smaller or indie artists. So hearing Drake say "as long as people are singing your songs you don't need this Grammy" won't really help many small artists cuz they don't have those accolades AND they don't have a Grammy. @Daniel Hill but it's still a true statement. Yeah, it's nice to win - it is an indicator of one's place within the industry, but if you have a large, passionate fan base then not having a grammy does not define you as an artist. As for Kanye specifically, him getting so salty about it (back in the 2004-2010ish era) and making a scene for various reasons back then is probably part of the reason he never won. He couldnt just be grateful for the acknowledgement and move on. I've always said that Kanye would've had a larger, more stable, more passionate fan base if he'd stop trying so hard to convince people that he's a genius - let the work, the impact, and the numbers speak for themselves and keep moving. No sense in trying to force anyone to agree - it just comes across as needy.

The way the Grammys works is you have to submit your album or song - J Cole made it a point to not submit his work to the Grammys, that's why he didn't get nominated. Nipsey and Push did huge press runs and went through the whole process to get their albums nominated. You have to to submit and write essays like it's a scholarship. I'm sure Travis and Cardi did the same, but they had the public notoriety so they were gonna get the nom anyways. I also think it's interesting that when it comes to Album of the year they often go with these random indie artists but for rap album it tends to just be the most popular

I think her winning will put a battery in other female rappers and overall that's good for the game and good for hip hop. Pusha's album was better but awards like this ain't NEVER about just raw quality, it's about impact. Cardi had the story of 2018 as far as rappers go and her album was the biggest of 2018 if we're being honest about it in terms of balance of critical/fan response and sales.

Well everyone who knows ball knows that rings aren't a good indicator of how good a player is. You can basically get a ring just by being on the right team. Cough Cough Miami heat...the warriors. By that logic noris Cole is better than Westbrook.

They hired people like 9th wonder and other hip hip legends to help them with the hip hop awards so I don't think they were pandering

N King They did all that and still gave it to Cardi B. Nonetheless, her year was HUGE.

I am really surprised at the response - I still dont think Cardi B is a rapper - she is an entertainer - Cardi Album was mediocre and placed last of the nominees in the category it clearly was based on popularity. Surprised people want to be quiet now because they dont want the backlash

In regards to J. Cole's album not being nominated, as far as I understand how the Grammy's work, you have to submit your work in order for it to be considered for nomination. I've seen word that J. Cole did not submit his work, which supports his sentiment of an older photo of him holding up a sign saying "Fuck the Grammys" or something. While I am a J. Cole fan, I would much rather have DAYTONA winning the Grammy over KOD or pretty much any other project last year. I'm happy to see Push get recognition, "Darkest Before Dawn" still slaps to this very day.

J Cole didn't submit his album for the Grammy's that's why he wasn't nominated.

I'll be honest, I can't see what the Grammys can do that'll get people back on board with them. If they award an album that the general public wants to see win, they'll be accused of "pandering". If they don't, then they're "out of touch".

@@iansmart4158 no problem man. But it's because he refuses to attend and sing there that is why he doesn't win shit. He has like 42 nominations and has only won like 6 or 8

Nikki and Cardi are the same to me. They talk about the same stuff and are pretty bland. When Cardi does a music videos with twerking, people love it. But when Nikki does it, all hell breaks loose.
