I used to read both the historical chronicles (mostly collections of biographies written on or around that time period) and the fictional versions, such as the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, by Luo Guangzhong, and even the opera scripts about or similar to that era, written in the late 70s and early 80s. Whereas the majority of people learn about this era from the game, for me it was backwards...I got into gaming, because games were made about this era. I remember being shocked that a company called Koei was actually working at recreating the time period. I was shopping for Christmas gifts for my kids when I came acrossed the first Romance of the Three Kingdoms for the Nintendo, newly released. And still, 30plus years later, I am STILL not burned out on the time period, which I consider the most fascinating time period in ALL of history. And I hold in high esteem and admiration, ANY who see this as well no matter how they discovered it. Because it WAS an incredible piece of history! That being said, I do know a little about Lu Bu's early life... He was discovered as a child of around 11-12 by Ding Yuan, as Ding was rushing to the aid of a nearby village which had been plundered and ravaged by the Wu Wan. Ding rescued as many as he could, including the young Lu Bu and tried to save Bu's dying mother, but was unable to. Also, some suspected Lu Bu also had some foreign barbarian blood, as those of the borders often consorted with neighboring tribes, and many pointed to the features and massive size of Bu which he was famous for, was reminiscent of some of the warring tribes on the borders. Ding Yuan tried to give Lu Bu an education as well as combat training, and had adopted him as his own son. Lu Bu was protective of Ding Yuan when he got older for some time... Enough so that he already had somewhat of a fierce reputation before his betrayal of his adopted father. Ding had a lot of fatherly affection for Bu, which makes his betrayal all the more tragic, and mysterious, as Lu Bu had NO OTHER REASON but GREED to do what he did. I forget the rest but this and more was posted on the website "Scholars of Chen Shou" so years back. I don't know if the website is still up and active, but if so, I cant recommend it highly enough.

You didn't see the tv series I guess. Lu Bu is greedy indeed but also naive and had the mind of a kid. He didn't possess a malicious mind or how you guys would say "a cunning mind". Because of that any cunning strategist could easily persuade and manipulate him. His downfall happened for a few reasons: 1- Arrogance and overconfidence inside and outside of battlefield. 2- Not studying about strategy properly and sometimes even despising it. 3- Being used many times as a tool to kill another warlord or politician. For that he earned the "fame" of a traitor. 4- By having the mind of a kid. About that I mean he needed to tell his legendary tales to everybody close to him to make himself feel better and proud. 5- He was unable to deal with defeat. He would just get mad and by that he wouldn't learn from his past mistakes. He could easily be taunted and fall into traps and ambushes because he was an unstable man. I am happy for the opportunity of playing DW franchize since I was a teenager. I learned a lot from their mistakes and from the period itself. I am just a little unhappy they changed lots of things since DW6 to the worse. Dynasty Warriors Online was also disappointing but that is what life is about anyway so it was good while it lasted. It's actually Lü Bu lol; much different from the "Lu" in Lu Xun and Lu Su's names. Lü Meng also shares this, as well as Nüwa. Other tidbits: Supposedly it was rumored that Lü Bu was having issues with Dong Zhuo beforehand via having an affair with one of his maids; pissing off Dong Zhuo on accident was another thing added to the fuel of fire. Wang Yun consulted Lü Bu about these issues and as Lü Bu expressed his doubts, he decided to agree with his plan. The most consistent thing about Lü Bu was his lack of control and lack of proper leadership over his soldiers. In most records, his troops would mistreat the populaces of claimed-territories and his generals were mostly large misfits with one another. This lack of organization also cost him a good number of some of his campaigns. Also, there was an actual incident where Lü Bu was literally naked in the night when someone tried to assault him. Gao Shun was called for by him, and due to him expecting his lord's fickle nature, he wasn't surprised one bit and stormed the rebel with his men. Lü Bu's fourth weapon is themed after the term Guoshi Wushuang/Kokushi Musou. The Demon/Ogre God (Guishen/Kishin; yes Soul Eater fans THAT Kishin term) naming also applies to his fifth weapon, level 11 weapon and his subtitle in Warriors All-Stars.

I on the other hand have played so much Dynasty Warriors 8 that I have found a way to ONE SHOT Lu Bu in his most powerful phases in the game on Ultimate difficulty. It's a legit use of game mechanics and options, it's more of an oversight by Omega Force that Lian Shi's Crossbow 4th Charge attack applies 7+ Elemental hits, hence why she's with Mandarin Hooks in Empires.

I'm afraid I'm going to have you give you a big correction here. Diaochan does not exist. She is a fictional character who was made for the novel Romance of The Three Kingdoms, the primary source of Three Kingdoms fiction that Dynasty Warriors draws from. (As a note, *do not* use the Romance as a basis for historical facts.) The Diaochan character is *very loosely* based on a maid of Dong Zhuo that Lu Bu had an affair with, but Diaochan herself never existed historically.

Not really, there are many evidence found in archeology research that points to the fact Diao Chan did exist in history but just not that significant as a role as described in the novel. In fact Diao Chan is a title for palace maiden not her real name, but that doesn't mean this girl never existed.
