I didn't realise about the controversy until yesterday, nor did I realise this version is directed by the same guy who made the absolutely awful "Kill Her Goats", and "Muck", so I'm not very hopeful for what this movie would be anyway. No hate to anyone who enjoyed those movies btw, but he tends to use ex Playboy models instead of actual actors.

There is a lot more to it than what the article listed. That guy making the new ROTLD has no license, contract, or ownership of the name, the likenesses, or the IP. He was making claims that he had all of these so he could get investor money. The rights to the IP and other parts are a legal quagmire and are not owned by any single entity. However Leanna and Randolph do have the rights to their likenesses in merchandising and so on. They sent a Cease and Desist to that guy about their likenesses and ownership, he has not responded. So, they are going to being this to litigation. There is an interview with the two about all of this. It's on another KZbin channel called Frumess.

I have seen 4 and 5. Want to say they were on sci fi channel. It was so long ago that I do not remember anything except they weren't good enough for me to watch it again like I have the first 3 many times

I concur 100%. I don't know anything about the new director's work, but they have the right to make the film. Beverly is a wonderful person, but the idea they're pitching for "ROTLD: Trash's Revenge," starring most of the original cast just seems like a half-hearted fan film. Don't get me wrong; I'd love to see it, too, but I don't see why they don't just raise money money from Kickstarter and release it as a fan film, for non-profit. If the rights holders release a fun, great movie reboot, then it's great to have that, too.

The new director can't use Tarman because that character is owned by one of the art directors from the original film. Basically multiple different people and or companies own different parts of the rights to the living dead franchise

ROTLD is my favorite zombie movie and one I still remember watching with my mom when I was a kid. I just can't see it being improved. Slightly off topic but if you haven't seen ROTLD 3 then do yourself a favor and watch it, it's very much underrated. To me that's where the series ends lol.

I wanna be excited, but I just can't. On one hand, it's a new ROTLD. On the other hand, there's a lot of controversy surrounding this project, not just with the legal stuff, but also Living Dead Media and its owner, also the writer/director/producer of this. I can't say what, but it ain't pretty.

The original is one of my all time favorite films, I think it captures the nihilistic punk sense of humor better than any movie ever made. It just works perfectly for what it is and never needed any sequels (although part 3 is decent on its own merits)

She’s one of the bigger names in the franchise? Imo she was pretty low on the list for their ragtag group. Here’s my ranking: Trash, Freddy, Spider, Suicide, Tina (all of these characters rock), then the rest. So her, Chuck, and Scuz don’t matter imo. It’s sorta funny her interactions with Chuck but they’re kind of nonsensical and not as entertaining as the rest of the group. 😮

(This have nothing to do with this film but) what are the limits of fan films? For example: there are a lot of F13th fan film or even a black christmas fan film called "it's me billy", but it's not official i mean, most od them are they are "non profit". So if you make a non profit fan film like your film is in the hands of the Copyright holders? Like If they are good people they will let your movie be without a problem, but if they have a bad day they can throw your movie at you and force you to remove it from YT

I think it’s pretty much a case by case basis. Any studio can reach out to a fan filmmaker if they feel their property is breached. I think most see fan films as harmless.
