Gimmicky garbage, as are ALL artificial structures in disc golf. Putting in "breadsticks" to guard a basket... elevating a basket... putting OB 3 metres from the pin... Or basket on a dangerous slope... These things all tell you something about the course designer. It tells you that they ran out of knowledge, talent, and skill, a long time before the design was completed.

To put it mildly, hole 14 was the most unprofessionally designed green I have ever seen. This is the most prestigious tournament in disc golf -- and you decide to turn a green basically into random lottery? It may very well have decided the Men's championship, as Niklas' rollaway was the most unfair in disc golf history and beyond.

14 has the problem of good shots being punished in addition to bad shots. Same with hole 10 downhill. For those holes they need to not have OB, or have the fairways / greens lined with haybales to prevent super far roll-aways. But it's exactly what you'd expect from an amateur course designer. "So this hole we're gonna have the basket on a 70 degree slope, the green will be all rocks, and there's going to be a ton of unnecessary OB nearby too. If you land within 15 feet of the basket you WILL be punished"
@fodank
@fodank 18 күн бұрын
But once you're there and playing, are you going to gamble that you won't get a rollaway and play the hole as though the challenge/predicament/conundrum doesn't exist and thus risk the very thing you fear might happen....or are you going to come up with a plan to avoid the possibility and then execute that plan? Are you going to be a smart disc golfer or are you going to just play as normal and hope the breaks go your way? To win the tournament you must navigate every hole for five days and score less than everyone else. With that being said and knowing you're going to have three shots at hole fourteen, why not play it to take the rollaway out of the equation. (Proctor's was a 'don't hit the pole too hard from three feet thing. Nothing to do with the hole design.) Drive in bounds, approach to whatever spot favours your best layup to fifteen feet, tap in and drive on. Want the birdie? Make the putt or risk the punishment. It's NOT rocket science, it is what is is. A smart disc golfer has a plan and a good disc golfer then executes it. It's not the arrow, it's the archer. Players that let that hole get into their heads are not thinking about the big picture. Armchair quarterbacks complaining about that hole seem to forget that every player has a choice about how to play it. Disc golf is not a game of 'how' but of 'how many'. You chose to play? Then deal with what the course demands or do not, but no matter what you decide, stop whining about it.

I have to admit, having a World Championship Tournament, with this much OB, seems somewhat "manufactured". So many of those 'OB' shots were far from poor shots and it feels a bit cruel. I know that "the course is the course and it's the same for everyone", I just feel that there's a point where there is such a thing as 'stupid' or 'silly' course design. Amazing to see such high OB throw counts.
@romanpfarrhofer
@romanpfarrhofer 18 күн бұрын
I am not a fan of artificial OB. It's difficult for both players and viewers to see, and it often compensates for a property that isn't well-suited for a disc golf course. However, I do understand the need for OB lines to separate crowds from the fairway, mainly for safety reasons. I'm also fine with using OB lines to add a special challenge on a few holes. But if you need 1,200 OB stakes, maybe it's time to reconsider! Regarding Ivy: For a ball golf course, it was enjoyable to watch due to the elevation changes. However, hole 14 had overly random ground play-it needed at least some roll-away protection within C2.
@markmcgarity
@markmcgarity 17 күн бұрын
exactly. all for more spectators(cash)..it's boring to watch and sucks to play too..keep disc golf where it belongs, in the woods. if you need miles of rope and stakes, it's a crappy course/design.

As a new disc golfer who was a professional ball golfer, I thoroughly enjoy the similarities and the differences between the 2 sports. But one aspect for me that leaves me scratching my head is why scores exceeding -10 in a single round seem to be more the norm instead of the exception. The expectation in a Major tournament for ball golf is absolutely absurd difficulty. -8, -10 after 4 days is usually at the top of the heap while this same score in 4 days of disc golf is like having the entire field lap you. The scaling is so different it is hard to fathom. Just my 2 cents. Still thoroughly enjoying the disc golf learning experience.

These are top pro’s of their game, courses should be hard. Everyone should have their own opinion to be heard but these pro’s need to suck it up! -37 down isnt enough for these players?! Pretty boring to see players just be able to throw wide open shots with no troubles any where. The on course drama from not so good shots or shots that were do or die are fun to watch. Seeing the same few arm always win week after week gets old. All these pros should be hitting landing zones or penalized if not. I thought the course was great to watch. Its ok to challenge the players and its ok for the loud mouths to have an opinion of dis-like.

It's a really bad sign the DGPT is trying to grab cash the way they are. It's pretty clear they need short term revenue to stay afloat. The MUCH wiser decision would be to invest in ways that bring more viewers, thus creating more opportunity for advertising dollars. It would be the long game, but it would be way more lucrative. I think next season is going to really be a bust... I invest in DGN hoping to grow the quality, but it ain't happening. Overall, I'm not as excited about watching coverage as I used to back in salad days of Jomez, GK Pro, Gatekeeper Media, and Ace Run Pro... literally getting lead and chase card post production from both MPO and FPO + we had live coverage. Even last season, Gatekeeper had the Two Hot Geese FPO coverage coming out SAME DAY... which was epic, and led me to watching ALL the FPO action instead of just some. DGN and DGPT are blowing it super hard.

At Ledgestone, I listened to Gannon and Calvin talk to him during a backup about the B pin on hole 13. I'm guessing if the B pin comes into play next year, there will be some adjustments on the back fairway or the pin will be moved closer. In general, I would say Heinold is a fantastic TD and a pretty good pro tour course designer. I wasn't crazy about many of the Ivy hill holes, but the main problem is it was the first tour event there. This is the first chance for feedback.

they lack consistently. isaac and ezra have unlimited access to any disc with any amount of wear on it. I bought two M4's at once before i stopped buying prodigy. One of them flew amazingly, the other one basically became a roller disc after a few weeks. granted, this was a few years ago.

I subscribed and supported everything dgn and the pro tour did from the very start until last year. I didn't re subscribe this year, because they don't seem to get better, they make choices and even when they don't work out or we don't like them, they just run with them anyway. When you send them feedback, rather than listen they get defensive and double down on their stance and that really stinks, they made a few changes early on that I still dislike and that make the viewing less fun and more frustrating and after making that clear they just say, oh well, deal with it, I say if you depend on my money to make this work, I have some say, if you make a change I really do not like and it ruins the experience for me, and it isn't necessary then you should at the very least ask the Community and go with what the majority of your subscribers agree too, since they are the ones supporting your efforts. Early on it was the way they displayed the scores and names of the players, when they changed that it was confusing and most of the time you can't see the score relative to the rest of the field and the competitors close to the player you are watching, the change really screwed this up. When I asked about it a few times and explained why it stinks and how it is affecting our viewing enjoyment, they basically said oh well, too bad, so I stopped supporting them. I think after 4 or 5 years if you can't figure out how to get a good broadcast out, you can't be charging for it and can't be upping those charges, if anything, offer it for free until you accomplish two things, get it right and rebuild membership by offering it for free for a limited time, and that time is until you can broadcast the whole event without packet loss, glitches or anomalies with the broadcast, many others broadcast live all the time, tune in and ask for help.

OK, I’ll start by saying I like your videos and I think you guys are funny. So I’m not sure how to take the first part of this video as satire or serious? These are the top players in the entire world and they are constantly complaining about how the courses are not difficult enough for them. But then they get one hole with a little bit of a runaway or a tiny bit of difficulty or distance and then it’s get a new course designer because this course sucks. I’d like to come and play at one of my local courses if they can’t thread the needle between the trees, I don’t care how far they’re gonna bogey every hole.

The problem is that it is mostly luck to stay on the hills. Did you see new London and the tee shots??? The gaps are so small and no one was complaining about that. Fundamental way tougher holes.

Heavy woods = blurry video quality How many times do we have to see the same thing over and over again before people catch on? I’m honestly kind of tired of hearing people complain about it. I totally get it. The picture quality sucks but whining every other week isn’t going to magically make the cell phone networks that DGN uses any better. It is simply one of the pitfalls of the current technology.

Why do you keep talking about the rope? In videos past, We always talk about poorly defined OB. Now that we have nicely defined OB that is easy to see as a viewer we are complaining about too much rope? Makes no sense. Either way, still a big fan of y’all’s videos, but disagree with most of the takes on this one.

I will say this again, happy with par is very fake. he is nice and all, at these things for clout but in a tournament setting he is a completely different and will scream and throw tantrums up and down the course when he plays MPO/MA1 at an MA2 level. If he was ever to actually get on coverage I'm sure Clash would not keep him as somehow the US team captain. His brand is not how he carries his self when the camera are off him
