Join me on this voyage as we search for buried treasure. I mean buried issues this 1772 oil painting may have. In this first episode, I breakdown what I see once a painting comes in my door and we begin the disassembly. While we hoped for smooth sailing, alas, it's drama on the high seas.

When I tell you my heart “grew three sizes” when I read this, ooooooooo boy do I mean it. Julian doesn’t deserve some of the buttholes that would come through there, he’s too talented and experienced to put up with that. So maybe he writes a text book and has the school named after him and they follow the book and his vids to a TEE.

whereas I didn't, because I felt literally sea-sick at some moments, and not because of the painting subject matter. Nothing wrong with a bit of hand-held, but zooms and pans should be way slower and less frequent, and the focus should be in-focus. I actually had to skip some of the intro and black light stuff because it got too much.

I have to say, while these videos are still fascinating and enjoyable, I'm not a fan of the new style. I think the handheld camera takes away from the focus on the conservation work--personally, I strongly preferred the tripod shots. I think a mix of both could work, but the close ups moving around are REALLY distracting from the painting.

Something I find interesting about the painting itself here is that it's almost like a kind of proto-animation or comic. It shows the same ship from different angles, but there is also an impression that the _Alfred_ is traveling through space in the composition, rather than just being rotated in place like a diagram. I just think that's neat!
