You want to have heard explicit scottish tirade that came out my mouth when I saw the vandalism. I don't know how you kept a lid on it. The way you and your Mum got right back to work after this and also after your polyhouse was finished and then immediately vandalised is admirable.

Uuuurggghh! What a horrible experience to have to deal with. There you were with your Mum, doing the lovely stuff that you do, filming your vlog and then find that some mindless, inconsiderate person has vandalised and invaded your space. You are so right Jessie, this is a problem with people. Not the place or the level of security, it is a problem with some people. I have so much respect and admiration for the way that you both pushed on through this crisis and carried on. It must have been really hard work. I am sitting here after a 12 hour shift at work in a hospital, thinking about how much I love my allotment and how much joy it brings saying Cheers to you and your Mum! Xxxxx

Our allotment sheds were broken into this week too Jess…..grrrrrr! They were too thick to even realise that they were unlocked and still smashed off the latch. That looks like kids to me. Our stuff was stolen by a 15 year old kid who used our wheelbarrow to take everything to the gate where he could lob it over to his mates. It does taint the relaxing and restorative experience we have on our plots. Last winter a homeless person broke in and slept in one of my sheds with his dog, that didn’t bother me at all, if he’d stayed longer I was prepared to,provide warm bedding and food but he left after two nights. Chin up Jess and Jess’ mum, love you allotment, it’s so tidy and productive. Xx

Glad you were able to fix things up quicksmart and that the allotment itself and more importantly, the girly-wirlies were all a-ok (and Lily). Lily is twice as round with her fluffy winter coat, she tried so hard to stay up with you and mum in this vid. Tasteless yellow bag of water and funny cameraman mum! Absolutely adore you girls. Well done for you and your mum's resilience Jessie. A little true story that might make you smile: An old friend of mine has a nice allotment on a large council owned site near me, west Norfolk. One of his mates on the site often stays quite late in his own shed. One night he heard quite a bit of noise around 10 pm in the dark. He turned his lamp off and peeped around. From the site entrance he could see two lads trampling around plots generally vandalising and breaking into whatever shed they could. He noticed their bikes hidden in the hedge by the gate...crept back to his own shed, got a hacksaw and sawed through both their back wheels, crept back to his shed until all was quiet. Hasn't been any problems since!🙂🤐 I'm not recommending anything here of course! Just carry on doing what you do very well ladies.

So sorry about the break in. Our allotments have break ins on a regular basis so mostly plotholders don’t lock their sheds anymore. That way at least there’s no damage. Hi Jessie, everyone else has said everything that there is to say about the pea brains that broke in. Well done with the DIY. I like the use of the plastic pipe for the cage frames. I have a walk in fruit cage (Gardening Naturally) that I put up about 3 years ago. Where I am is more exposed than your plot and the first autumn/winter I was forever having to tie it to stakes etc because the wind was doing everything it could to destroy it. I use butterfly netting and it is surprising what wind resistance it has. The wind was also ripping it where I had fixed it to the frame. I take the roof netting off over winter just in case it snows as snow is heavy and could destroy the frame - not that we have had any but it’s something to be aware of. Keeeep vlogging😉

That sucks Jessie. We have regular break ins at our site. We’ve learned though to never lock our sheds or gates, they always target them ones first and the locked ones are the only ones that get any damage. We keep ours unlocked and don’t leave anything in them that’s in any way valuable. that way if someone comes along looking for an easy steal they can have a quick glance in your shed and move on. I know it goes against all instincts but allotment sites are remote so thieves can and will happily make as much noise as they want smashing up a shed just to take a look inside. Locks are no deterrent at all sadly.

I'm a novice chilli grower and remember reading that over watering chillies affects the heat. My chillies are in pots in a poly tunnel and they are tricky to water right. Letting the soil dry out a bit so the leaves just start to wilt and then water them. Some varieties arnt very hot . Birdseye and Habanero are the business. Good luck.😎👍

Its a horrible feeling of violation when you are burgled. You dont feel safe, you become more vigilant about people and it errodes your trust in people. I'm sorry you had to experience that. I'm so glad my "allotment" is on the land surrounding my home. Where it is less likely we would have random people come round and vandalise the place. My little terrier "Lady" lets us know of any visitors. Tomatoes -- I was in the garden this morning taking off the lower leaves and picking out the laterals - I have 6 varieties this year, 3 are new. Little over a week ago they were looking sad because we had, had so much rain they were drowning and then this last week we have hit the early 30 deg C. I reckon Summer has come early or its going to be a long hot dry Summer.

Vandalism is the very dark side of humans - and I hope karma bites those bastards really hard. Just glad they didn't do far more damage like to your girlies or the polytunnel or the glasshouse! You both handled it well despite how very upsetting it is. And Jessie - you need a 3lb club hammer! Sorry to see you have had some unwelcome visitors on your plot. I really should put a new notice on my shed door explaining the only reason it is locked is to prevent young children from going in as don't want them touching some of the things such as sharp knives used to cut produce once it has grown. It's part of being a plot holder things go wrong and crops fail but we carry on, we try again.

Jessie you are a star * despite the set back of the local herberts trashing your property, your positivity is admirable. I loved the music while you were looking for the lost steps.. You gave me the kick up the a..e that was needed to get to the plot today. Chin up spring will be here soon... all those lovely seeds ! P.s Can you let me know what the name of the bird netting is so I can get some don't like anything that the birds can caught in, your netting looks perfect for the job. Xx

Aww, that sucks big time!!! Thank goodness the girlies were ok. Does the cat live locally? Omg I'd be a bag of nerves worrying about them. I'm so sorry you had to deal with that, the rotten little $hits!! 🤬🤬

Oh I’m so sorry. This breaks my heart to see that kind of destruction on your plot. I hope the perpetrators are found and justice is served. Sending hugs and prayers.

I'm so sorry for you both Jessie, after all the hard work and love put in. I can't begin to understand what the brainless morons can possibly gain from such vandalism, apart from just wanting to destroy someone else's property. It's soul destroying but don't let them put you off your great work there. Thank goodness they didn't harm the chickens. Chin up!

re getting hot chillies.... mostly a stressed plant will have more flavour in it's fruit... so maybe you've over fed or over watered at one stage or another.... with less sunshine there is less stress so flavour is lost... balance sunshine with feeding and watering and temperature... gosh isn't gardening full of fun challenges... ann in derby

How awful to have that little break in, I was worried that they would steal your chickens😨😨 however u did a great job patching it back up. I really need to build a cage to protect my nine star broccoli you gave me, dam pigeons keep munching on them. Yes our water gets turned off too until end of April. Just to make you feel a little better, I watched all 8 ads today 😆😆🙈

Very sorry to see the shed and chard damage 😡. Unfortunately some people just can’t respect other peoples hard work. I had my kitchen window smashed once and it left me feeling quite violated for some time. Thankful the sweet girlies were unharmed. Lily’s winter coat is drop dead gorgeous 💜 You managed a few things despite the drama so don’t sell yourself short Be well 🥂

So sorry that your plot was vandalized. I don't recall if you mentioned if any other allotments were also vandalized on the same night as yours? I am glad you did not let the vandals "win" but instead carried on and got back to work.
